Manchester United Thread

Yeah why attack Benitez? It's as if he's been spouting contradicting hypocritical bollocks to the press for the past 2 weeks.. :P

Personally, I dont see the big deal about the arms thing. It's getting a bit dull all this now.

It just pisses me off all this shit. If Ferguson said he was going for a shit, the papers would say it's mind games. I wish they'd just fuck off and talk about football.

Agree, Suprised SAF actually brought it up, wasn't reallly any need, Rafa's been talking rubbish for months so he might aswell let him carry on.

The thing that papers never report is taht managers tend to just answer directed questions. So someone will have probably said, Sir Alex, do you think that Rafa making insulting gestures to big Sam was insulting? And he'll of said, yes. The quote then becomes, FERGUSON ATTACKS INSULTING RAFA!

The media in the UK are teh scum of the earth.

Pathetic rant by Ferguson. Beyond me how Rafa's gesture was condescending or insulting to Fat Sam.

Yeah, it's a strange one, tbh. Looks like his words have been twisted by the media again. But he was right about Rafa calling Everton a small club.

Haha so we can come to the conclusion that they are both silly hypocritical old men who are quite good at managing football teams?

 Not sure many here will understand your Avatar Abou

Well Chelsea are into the final, Good news for us As if we and Chelsea were both to make the CL final we wouldnt be at a disadvantage going into the cup game.

He's been saying that all season to be fair. Ronaldo will only move to Real when SAF isnt the manager. SAF wouldnt sell them a virus remember:BOP:

Today is going to be a battle. I don't know the teams but I kind of hope there is no Scholes or Rooney as we could really do without suspensions for red cards. An Anderson, Fletcher, Park and Giggs midfield maybe. Lots of grafters with the conductor in charge.

Regarding Moyes questioning if Mike Riley is a United fan, just saw this post on another forum:

It is 9 penalties in 18 games at Old Trafford. So basically if you're playing at Old Trafford and Riley is reffing, you've got a 50/50 chance of having a penalty against you. He didn't give one for them against Villa so the law of averages says he will give them one this weekend.

1. the game is being played at Wembley so the law of averages does not say he will give one this weekend and

2. Liverpool have had more penalties than the rest of the top 4 this season despite having played less games (you went out of both domestic cups early) so why are United still getting stick for it?

So you don't think that's a surprising statistic then?

Do you have a link which shows we've had more penalties? I always like checking those kinda things out :)

On Football365 theres a statistics section so I just looked down the results for each team and counted them all myself :D

Anyway Dags, the other day you said these stats were a load of crap made to make teams look bad didnt you?

Did I?

You don't think that a ref giving a penalty in half of his games reffing one particular team is bad?

He’s awarded 2 penalties in 08/09. None of them are to any top four club.
He awarded 7 penalties in 07/08. None of them were to any top four club.
He awarded 6 penalties in 06/07. Two of them were to Arsenal, one of them was for United.
He awarded 8 penalties in 05/06. Two of them were to Arsenal, one each for Liverpool and Chelsea, none for United.
He awarded 4 penalties in 04/05. One of them was for Chelsea, one of them for United.
So in 5 years, Riley has awarded 27 penalties. Arsenal have had four of them, United and Chelsea have had two, and Liverpool have had one.
The Guardian looked at Mike Riley’s record after that controversial penalty he gave in United’s favour against Arsenal. Whilst that penalty was dubious, the one Riley should have awarded moments later was not. As reported by the BBC: United could have had another penalty when Cole brought down Ronaldo.
So those decisions cancel each other out meaning, according to The Guardian, the only controversial penalty decision Riley has awarded in our favour since 1997 was in our 7-1 thrashing of West Ham!
A look at the penalties Riley has given United suggest only two were truly dubious: the one against Arsenal, and another in a 7-1 thrashing of West Ham in April 2000 when Nicky Butt appeared to trip over his own feet as he went round the goalkeeper Craig Forrest.
.

He's reffed us 4 times this season. 2 wins 2 draws (one win against Southampton so nothing contraversial there). No penalties.

Rooney, Ronaldo and VDS not travelled?

Now confirmed. Seems Fergie isn't too arsed about the FA Cup then I guess. Either that or he doesn't rate Everton highly and thinks Utd can beat them with a weakened team.
