Manchester United Thread

I hate Ronaldo for doing that. Proving he is brilliant even though he's been shit this year.

He was even decent in general today, actually looked bothered about playing and winning.

Proud of the boys, genuinely relieved that we've pulled that off, and it was never really worrying to watch, shows what a difference Rio makes at the back.

Thought Berbatov was suited perfectly for this match as well, and he turned in a decent performance.

Gives me hope for winning the CL but at the same time, Arsenal can easily beat us and we could end up losing the league now cause of the extra games.

 WHAT A HIT! I agree, Only Ronaldo would have scored that goal cause only hes arrogant enough to believe he could have scored from 40 odd yards out!

Matherto I think you (im sure theres plenty others aswell) need to give the kid a break, He just scored a stunner to put us through and even with his "below par" season is joint top scorer and has more assists than he had last year.

Arsenal will be a quality game, Will be interesting how the League game goes now, Its sandwiched inbetweeen both legs right?

Hopefully Arsenal can do us a favour when they play Liverpool next.

it goes like this:

everton away (fa cup)

tottenham home

portsmouth home

arsenal home (cl)

middlesbrough away

arsenal away (cl)

man city home

wigan away

arsenal home

hull away

That schedule is ridiculous. Atleast 6 or 7 of those games can be lost on a bad day.
And then throw in two more games if we get through both semis.

I think the key is their at home. Middlesborough away is probably the only tricky away tie but on their current form we should win

Just finally managed to catch up on sleep and sort myself out Porto is a great city and I enjoyed the atompshere down the riverside with the fans. Great goal from Ronaldo and I was fricking nervous for the last 20 minutes of the game but to become the first English team to win at Porto proves we can win anything! Arsenal will and can be beaten at the Emirates!

Porto fans were gracious in defeat and the majority of them wanted to swop scarves with us unfortunately the only scarf I had was the one Man UTd gave to fans who attended the 50th anniversary game for Munich against Man City so I was unwilling to swop that

Next stop London!

Hey folks congrats. ;)

Fantastic strike by Ronaldo, just wish he scored those for the PT national team too. :P

Thanks mate, you guys gave us one hell of a game. home and away, well played and good luck in the portugese league

I'm grateful to the Porto fans and polica alike no heavy handed tactics and they treated the fans well... All I can say it you have very vocal and passionate fans!

Anyone else think Ronaldo's turn of effort is due to it being near the end of the season and him wanting to make sure he can pi$$ off to Madrid?

I think it's more to do with Fergie having a word with him... maybe one day it'll have the same effect on Nani!

I hate Ronaldo for doing that. Proving he is brilliant even though he's been shit this year.

feck me what do you want...

for a player who played all last year, all summer, wanted to move, wasnt allowed to move, had ankle op, missed pre season, missed start of season...

and still joint prem top scorer, 21 goals so far and a bagful of assists...

and we're still on course multiple trophies....

stop hating on the kid...

To be fair, hardly anyone seems to be actually scoring in the Prem this year, to be this far into the season and having hardly anyone in double figures tells you something, so for him to be joint top scorer isn't as impressive this season.

And considering he's spent most of this season sulking about not playing for Madrid, being completely anonymous in games and completely giving up when he doesn't get a free kick every time he loses the ball, should I really stop the hate?

It's only cause he's a brilliant bastard that there are people willing to forget he'd rather be anywhere but United right now.

feck me your like some bitter jilted bird....

you seem to ignore what he has done in favour of media-type speculation about what he thinks and feels (lol like anyone really knows)....

try and focus on what he has done this season and where the team are right now...

those things we know for sure...

What has he done this year though really? Sure he's just put us through to the semis, but I can't think of a game this year when he's gone and won it for us in spectacular style. Things where he's really wanted it, like his goal against Roma last year when he came from miles off and fucking flew at the ball.

After two amazingly good years I think he's personally having his worst since becoming a United player.

But there is hope, because I'm with whoever has said Fergie must've had a word with him, and he's gotta have noticed the fans getting on his back for not trying to win back the ball or staying down when he's not gonna win a freekick.

At least if he has a good end to the season and stays, he'll be back to 06/08 brilliance.

I love the guy in equal measures as hating him. I can't help feeling that way, and from all I've seen I know he's pissed at not being a Madrid player right now, thats not just media speculation.

I've already accepted that he could leave at any time now so I just enjoy the football he's giving us. His reasons for moving are understandable and I'll never hold that against him.
I just think some fans have been spoilt with the success we have here but the truth is, the season we had last year was beyond amazing and we can only thank Ronaldo for most of that. If Ronaldo leaves in the summer, he'll still be a United legend in my eyes.

this is turning into a python type convo...

"what have the romans done for us"

of course, by his OWN standards, he isnt as good as the last couple years, that always happens...

no one keeps it up year after year...

not zizou, messi, henry, ronaldinho, Ronaldo..

No-one!

but his goals and assists have helped us get into the position we are in, why is that hard for you to admit,

just cos this year he hasnt done it single handedly doesnt make it any less of an effort...

and, sorry dude, no-one knows what he's feeling or thinking...

it doesnt make sense that with so much to play for, a proffesional, wants to be somewhere where theres no chance of medals this year....

think about it...

LOL I can't understand some Utd fans, it must be hard winning trophies and titles all the time and being the biggest club in the world*, having the best British manager ever.

It should be full of joy and boasting in here instead it's full of doubt and self loathing...

;))

I've actually been banned from being positive by my United mates, every time I compliment the team or think we're gonna win, we lose, so I give up. :D

Just looking at the fixtures and how rediculous they are.

At the minute, we're fighting for the league, CL and FA Cup, which is just the same as 99, so was it this bad back then, I honestly can't remember?

we are a pretty pessimistic lot really.....

altho I have to correct you...

we're currently the Best Club In The World...

not the biggest...

the league fixtures werent as difficult...

the fa cup and CL run in was the hardest that year...

we only lost 3 games in all comps that year...

i think we have only lost 4 league games and the supercup so far this year..

And now we've got Fergie going on the attack on Rafa now, seemingly with quite personal attacks as well.

Getting bored of these "mind games" now

Some of you lot are spoilled in all honesty, Ronaldo doesnt have a uber season and hes suddenly not trying, he scores a belter of a goal and suddenly he's doing it to impress Real.

Ronaldo will be here next season but that may be his last. either way he's given this club his all no two ways about that. A way to put things in perspective for me our, Gerrard and Ronaldo are having near identical seasons. Yet its apparantly one of Gerrards best ever and hes being called the BPITW by some people and Ronaldo's apparantly having a bad season.

Every game for us is like a cup final now anyway so were just going to have to take one at a time. I think SAF hinted today that Rooney and Carrick will be rested for the Cup game. I think We'll line up like this...

------------Foster------------
Neville--Ferdinand-Vidic--Fabio
Ronaldo--Fletcher-Scholes-Park-
---------Tevez--Berbatov------

Ferguson:

"why is he talking about us before a champions league game"

hmmm. Does that not apply to FA Cup games?

Just to clear things up, Ferguson is having a go at a man for showing a bit of emotion after a goal, he never ever does that. And to clear things up, just before the freekick, Rafa was screaming at Alonso to put it at the back post, it didn't, it went to the near and we scored. Hence the "forget it" gesture and the smile at Xabi.

Why Sam "no manger has ever got the better of me (mentally)" Allaydce is chiming in saying it was an attack against himself, considerng he made unprovoked comments the day before the game.

Rafa obviously thought it was "all over" in Istanbul at 3-1

here he is obviously taking the piss out of Fat Sam's substantial rack
