Yeh cant disagree with that, If Chelsea were in the race i'd take the CL but with us so close to 18 and are only realistic challengers being Liverpool the PL is a must!

Don't really know the man well enough to say how much it'll help. But I'll take every advantage we can get.:P

I dont think the touchline ban will affect Porto at all.

We have a boost in Rio's return for tonight.I feel good about tonight and we need to win at all costs.

I watched the two Bayern-Barca game and was clearly impressed with Gerard Pique. It was a shame to let him go and we were willing to do so,at that.I believe he is much better than our Johnny Evans,no disrespect to Johnny though.Pique plays a lot like Rio,classy on the ball, composed and collected, good in the air and is no slow coach.Shouldnt have gone but the lad is enjoying first team football with Barca, playing in the semis of the biggest club football tournament in the world.

well hopefully we have had our blip,

a win tonight could boost us for the run in!

I cant decide whether I want another Prem or defend The CL...

The league, without question. It's the primary goal for any team to win their own league, surely?

Plus the fact of what it means to your lot to equal our titles count as well?

I agree, its the bread and butter...

but we've won it two years running...

and we've already done a Prem 3-in-a-row so its not exactly as ground breaking for us as defending CL...

as for equalling lfcs old record, theres no rush..

not to say I dont want to win it mind...

You know what...Vann is absolutely right...there is only a handful of clubs that has won the CL in a year and retained it the next and those were done in the 90's..No team has done it in this new century though...might as well be the first.

I would agree but Liverpool are the challengers for the title. I think for SAF to bow out by making us the most successful side from england would echo his words of "knocking Liverpool off their perch" :DD

I thought no team had ever defended their CL title? Since it changed from the older competition? So we'd be pushing for history. Plus it's worth more money...

However given that the league is against Pool, you do feel like it would hurt more to lose that, particularly as we did have a 7 point lead at one stage.

If we can have one of those two, I think it'll still be a successful season. A far cry from 05/06!!!

It's interesting on the 18 titles thing. I get how exciting it must be for Pool fans finally being back near that pinnacle again, but I'm really dreading the whole '19 to 17 we're so much better than you' stuff that's going to spill out. Those titles were just so long ago, it feels strange to me to reference them when talking about the league today. I guess maybe that's from a North American perspective - where teams move around a bit - but I just can't feel like Liverpool have been 'the best team in England' as for a quarter of a century they haven't. That's a really, really long time in sporting terms. No one is talking about Forest as one of England's best European teams, because they haven't been for ages. Dunno if it makes sense. For me Pool would have to win the league more than once in 20 years to claim to still be the best team in England.

It doesnt make them "the best" it makes them "the most successful" were already the former but we also want to be the latter.

Yep, you're right about the titles aspect over the years. Us winning it in the 80's doesn't mean we'd be the best team is we did win. But it's the whole history aspect of who's got more history behind them as opposed to who's currently the best team I guess.

Edit: YG put it better :)

I think you'll find noone has ever defended the 'Champions League'.

They've defended the European Cup though, but that wasn't in the 90s.

Milan were the last team to successfully defend the European Cup, they won it 1989 and 1990. Since the inception of the Champions League in 1992, no team has successfully defended it. The closest has been Juventus who won it in 1996 and lost in the final of 1997 to Borussia Dortmund.

Same. When you live in Manchester and you've got regular contact with Pool fan's the thought of losing the league to them seems unbareable.

Gotta agree, being in St.Helens which is pretty much half way (ish) between the two cities, and having a pretty much 50/50 split of mates between the two clubs, its gonna be bad if Liverpool win the league.

Mind you, I have to admit that me and my United fan mates are worse winners than the Liverpool fan mates I've got, so whether that'll change if/when they win the league I'm not sure.

Well its do or die tonight, The least I expect is a performance from the lads, We need to atleast have a go and see what happens. Hopefully we can defend well and aim to get 2 to nulify the away goal aspect.

You play like this against Barcelona and you lose. Just an opinion.

That was a job well done.First English team to beat Porto at home...We should a least scored a second goal to nullify all those jittery moments in the last 15 minutes.

Van Der Sar again flapped at that cross from the corner, was lucky not being punished. It was really frustrating to see us sit back in the last quarter.Rooney puts in a fantastic shift in the right wing.Anderson added a much needed steel in our midfield.Giggs guided the team really well and we all could see how crucial Ferdinand is to our team.

There is only one player who has the capacity to hit a 40 yarder shot like that and that is our Cristiano Ronaldo.Really played well today as a centre forward and I was impressed.

Our winning formula today was that formation Sir Alex puts out. This in my opinion is our best formation yet.A 4-3-3 in attack but it transformed into a 4-5-1 on the backfoot.

A fantastic win and its Arsenal in the semis.Next up...FA cup semis against Everton!!! C'MONNN!!!
