Manchester United Thread

Stam seemed to stop the danger before it happened. Vidic would let the danger happen but then deal with it like no one else can.
Rio and Vidic are very different players but I think Stam was a combination of both.

Vidic relishes having to deal with someone, he just has the monster mentality.

Stam was simply a rock, 9 times out of 10 he'd be the one getting the ball and attackers wouldn't have a chance.

Both equally scary people.

Surely you're on a windup?

No, I slightly agree with him on this one, Zlatan IS shit most of the time.

He has the occasional flash of brilliance, but I think he's pretty much got the same problem as Ronaldo and doesn't appear in major games.

He's far too inconsistent and unpredictable to be called world class I reckon.

RONALDO doesnt play well in big games, not this one again, it's such a myth!! Shocked u cud say that as a man united fan
here's a list for u ok as u clearly know nothing about football

2 goals v roma ch league
2 goals home and away vs arsenal
1 goal vs chelsea ch league final
1 goal vs liverpool
the winner vs lyon last yr ch league
top scoreer in last yrs champions league!

now hang ur head in shame for saying that as i havent even mentioned how well he's done for his country in past years!

Actually, I meant the bit about Serie A and the SPL being on par, that's just ridiculous. I don't think I have to explain why.

And the Ronaldo thing is a myth mate.

yeh coz i said so im rarely wrong if ever!

I can think of a few posts you made on this site where you are wrong.. most of them being in the Liverpool thread! Stop being blinded towards Man Utd learn to acknowledge that other teams have a good quality players such as Torres at Liverpool, Vela at Arsenal, Drogba at Chelsea and Mikel Arterta at Everton to name a few.

I can smell a fix happening with the Semi Final draw tonight.. Chelsea anyone?

stam wasnt shit after he left united, he was still class until probably the last year of his career and even then he was still better than most. ferguson himself says thats the one deal he regrets making most in his whole career.

Everton in the Semi-Final... The FA get their way and their dream final as they wanted two big teams Manchester United Vs Chelsea or Arsenal however Everton are a very good team atm!

i hope arsenal knock them out, it might be an entertaining fa cup final for a change if we get through.

Had an interesting chat with my mate over the draw.. he claims Chelsea and Utd when they make the draw the ball that have each team's number on, the Utd and Chelsea number balls are warm so that they know to avoid drawing them against each other..

it wouldnt surprise me if the draw is fixed come to think of it, but why the hell are fa semi finals at wembley too, it makes a mockery of the competition, bring the semis bk to villa park for us and old trafford for the other one, after all villa park is our second home, did the fa do this to hinder united???that wouldnt surprise me either!

I have two warm balls in my pocket if he wants a feel.

it's alright he felt mine for comparison...

Semi Final draws have always been fixed they want to generate the most revenue for the final so they need the two best teams.. which is Utd and Chelsea according to their opinion

Sure he scored a few goals last year, and the year before.

But did he do anything else in those games against the major teams? NO he didn't.

They mark him out the game, but it works because we have Rooney, Tevez, Berbatov, etc to make things happen whilst they're concentrating on Ronaldo.

He's never, ever had a great game against one of the top four, and never against a big team in Europe either. Roma during the 7-1 was his best performance and he was magnificent, but I didn't class Roma as one of the big/best teams at the time, so it doesn't count.

It's not all about the goals mate. That's why Ronaldo should've won the Ballon D'or for 06/07 and not 07/08.

Plus the fact, any Portuguese forum member on here will tell you he's been pretty average (sometimes worse) for Portugal over the past few years.

He never listens does he now... Plan M in disgue mebbe?

Meh I totally disagree with Ronnie not turning up in the big games. Was class in the 1st half of the CL final but didnt do anything amazing in the 2nd so he apparantly had a quite game. Not sure why people expect him to do something amazing everytime he gets the ball? he does as much as any other big player in the big games.

Gun_UK you must be watching some mid table games to say that, check messi, villa, pato, even xavi, all top players and when they get the ball their aim is the net, for ronaldo is more like: step-over, step-over, understands he can't go further, pass back/side,... how disappointing is that? In Big games he just doesn't know how to get past the strict marking without diving or do 1-2's, even if he does look technical gifted, he needs ALOT of space to start running and creating his pace and other teams won't give him that space.
About the National team, i just don't even care anymore if he is playing or not, i would much rater watch it for Deco.

Disagree completely. Ronaldo doesn't play as well against big teams as he does against weaker teams because the defense is stronger against better teams. The same is true of every player in the world. Just because he doesn't put his head down and run blindly towards goal or shoot unnecessarily doesn't mean he's not performing. The stuff about him not performing in big games is a complete myth, created by jealous opposition fans who desperately clung to the idea that such a prick couldn't be the best player in the world. He led the CL in scoring last year, assisted and scored in big domestic cup and league matches and is a constant threat. His criticism started with 'he's a one trick pony' - then he started getting assists. It then moved to 'he has no end product' - then he led the league (and Europe in scoring). It has now devolved into 'well fine he plays well against 95% of teams, but when he's double teamed by the best defenses in the world he doesn't score very often'. No sh*t sherlock.

The only time I remember him not showing up was against Milan, when he and the rest of our squad seemed to forget there was a football game on. No berates the rest of our team for that day, it's just him that's singled out. And Kaka took world player of the year based, really, on those two matches, when stats wise, playing wise and overall contribution wise, Ronaldo gave much more. Oh and because Kaka is likeable, and the slimy diving prick is not.

Messi is the best dribbler in the world, hands down. He is an absolute bugger to tackle, and can single-handedly destroy a defense and create a goal. Ronaldo is not bad at dribbling, so can take on a man or two, but will not pull a Maradonna through the whole team. What he can do is shoot, belt free kicks, score with his head, outpace a defense and put in a mean cross. His first touch is so good it just goes unnoticed. He is the most complete attacking footballer in the world today, and I think if you spoke to a professional defender, they would tell you the same thing.

Fletcher has a reputation of showing up in big games - who do you think Mourinho would prefer to see on the right on Wednesday?

(sorry, just get so sick of this deluded view that because he doesn't score a hat trick every CL game he's not ridiculously good)

Exactly, I can see people coming here on Wednesday night though saying "Ow he scored the goal but other than that he did nothing" :DD

so he didnt do anything else but score goals...

to win games...

and trophies....

what more could he have done?

i expect this type of shite from ABU's but a fellow red...

Oh c'mon Van, against the major teams, he's completely anonymous, he gets marked out of the game. Every so often he'll pop up with a goal against one of them (or all of them last season), but on the whole he plays crap.

Any United fan saying he can't do more against them isn't watching the game properly.

Thing is though, no-one really stands out in the big matches, it's normally a defender or midfielder who does. The only exception is Rooney IMO.
