Manchester United Thread

We did what we needed to do. Good win and back to the top, Giggs and Scholes should both probably have made way by the 70' great players but can't last the distance, Berba's actually tracking back quite a bit these days, cant knock his workrate now. :))

Kind of hoping Fulham manage a goal against us. This clean sheet record could become a millstone and cause us to defend too much to keep it going.

As long as we've got clean sheets, we know we can't lose. Which then takes some pressure off our forwards and allows them to push forward as much as they want. And thats where Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez are at their best.

Interesting - United have named their 30 players for the CL last stages, and included Macheda and Petrucci, but no Wellbeck. Wonder if that's a sign that those two are moving upwards, or that danny isn't quite as good as we hope...

He's on the 5 man 'B' list (there are 25 in the 'A'). So is Johnny Evans, does that mean that they can play, or would they be part of a 'reserve' squad?

I feel we got the belief that we will not concede and that is massive BUT it does makes us a little more defensive, especially in the last 10 minutes or so...

@ Phrase - I'm not sure. Why Fergie left Scholes on was a mystery to me. He barely moved out of a 10 yard space for the last 20 minutes, which if it was tactics means you're right, but personally I just think he was knackered. Did manage to play a whole game defensively w/o a card, has that ever happened before ;)?

yeah dude, as long as we win the game when we concede we'll be fine. even then i think we bounce back well so it'll be fine.

When we do concede i think the players will get the hump and play even better tbh, West Ham away was the only game that i was worried about, i think the league is ours now, cant see Liverpool winning week in week out, the struggled against pompey, they simply cant play without Gerrard

@ Daz - Wish I shared your confidence. Fact is we've gone on a ridiculous run, but like all good things it'll come to an end. If anything I'd of hoped to a bit clearer at the top, because when we have the Carling Cup final, FA, CL and league all at the same time, we're likely to struggle.

Pretty bummed at the Liverpool match following CL so closely. We do have a bigger squad so should be our advantage I guess, but just feel like that game should have been between first XIs. Last time was without Ronaldo adn Torres, would be nice to actually have the best players on the pitch...

Senior Giggs has just extended his contract for another year. The living legend has been a revelation this season so far since reinventing himself to occupy that central midfield role. His setpieces are still vital and so does his odd but often important goal contributions.Along with Scholesy and Gaz Neville,Giggs could guide us to more silverware this season.

Out of all the older players we have here, you would have thought that age would effect his play the most but he keeps going and going every year. He's absolutely amazing.

To be fair he was crap last season until the Wigan game last day of the season. This season he;s been great though.

I dont think he was ever crap per se'...Like other players,he does have his off days and that rough injury patch didnt make things any easier.I gave him lots of credits last season as I can already tell and see that hes already trying to reinvent himself, playing in midfield,on the right side and occasionally off the main striker.Giggs is like Bergkamp in his last Arsenal season now...A luxury, experience player we can always count on to unlock defences in the last 3rd of the game.

I'm still frustrated by how much game time he gets. No doubting his ability or his ingenuity, but for 90 minutes he offers only glimpses. I'd much rather have Park on there for the first 65/70 then bring on Giggs if needed. Even Nani carries a greater threat than Giggsy most of the time. For me he has only really impressed against Chelsea this year. He delivers solid performances, but if he were a nobody that we'd never heard of or a youth and delivered like he did, we'd be screaming for him to be benched.

His goal against West Ham was good, but he's barely looked like scoring this season before now. Unfortunately for us Nani is having second season syndrome (or just might suck) and Park can't seem to stay healthy. Will be intersting to see Tosic's involvement...

We all know he was a bit shite at times but he showed the kind of raw talent that could have turned him into a decent player in the future. But the fact that he's still the same makes me wonder if there's something missing in our training camp thats not helping him improve at the rate we were expecting.
The first thing that comes to mind is the absence of Carlos Queiroz. But most of our other players have improved so I'm not really sure. I think he only has another season (maybe 2 max) to show some serious improvement or he's on his way out.

:SS You lot are going over the top, Nani is a work in progress, I think the fact we have seen 2-3 young players that are rare cases that have developed quicker than most in recent time (Messi, Ronaldo and Rooney) apart from them 3 most young players don't start playing to their full potential or the level those 3 show till their 25 odd.

Giggs on the other hand has been class this season, He hasnt been BPITW but he's been solid and shown consistency which is important when going for all trophies.

Derby on Sunday, Hopefully Evra, Nani and Rooney all make a showing to get match sharpness ahead of the CL.

Rooney is being carefully watched and won't be risked against Derby. That boy is our heartbeat, but certainly stays injured a chunk. He's played a fair bit less than Tevez this year, for perspective...
