Manchester United Thread

I wish I was as optimistic as you guys, is the game at home or in Spain?

If in spain we'll do our usual play crap while away from home, and try to nick a draw. If it's at OT I'm worried bout our nerves!

Darren Fletcher played a superb first half, lets see if he carries it into the second.Nothing going on so far for us...showing too much respect for Villareal most of the time.

Well wasnt the result I was hoping for but we clearly played some good stuff at times and in a more encouraging way reminded me of the start of last season where we played well but couldnt score,

Also great reception for Ronaldo wasnt expecting that? Came on was quite lively for his first match back but we'll see what SAF thinks to do with him on Sunday. Will he go with "The Holy Trinity" or will he go with the "Fantastic 4" ()

I hated the reaction Ronaldo got. I didn't wanna see him booed, but I didn't want it to be exactly as it was either.

Still, I'm confident that 99% of the people in the ground tonight have never been to a league game, so maybe it'll be different in a PL game (probably not).

And YG, it wasn't that we couldn't score, more like we barely created anything for us to even miss.

Dear Mr Berbatov.Get well soon and then put your scoring boots on.Thanks.

Ya, about that.

You do realise Berbatov only scored about 20 goals in 70 odd league appearances for Spurs?

I remember the Sky build up asking fans outside of Anfield what they thought of Berba, and people were saying he'll get 20-30 goals a season for us.....will he fuck.

Berbatov's goal scoring is way overrated IMO. His main role would be to hold the ball up and bring in Ronaldo and Tevez into play.

He's scored around 25 goals in the league last 2 seasons. Same as Keane.

Still not a big problem for you guys. Celtic and Alaborg also remained 0-0. So, hopefully someone scores next time in your qualifying groups.

The other result was a break for us.We did play better AFTER Ronaldo and Anderson came on.What lacks with that formation was a targetman.Berbatov needs to get his ass fit for Sunday, only then we will get a game on our hands. We must win because a back to back loss to the other big 2 would be a huge blunder.

It would also leave us 9 behind Chelsea if we lose it. That would be really difficult to catch.

Read this quote and kind of jumped ahead thinking this was what Fergie was going to say. I edited the italicised bit.

And Ferguson accepts he now has some thinking to do.

"I have a decision to make on Sunday," he said.

"I need to work out whether I go with Evans' ability but lack of experience or whether I opt for Wes' experience but lack of ability."

Evans was solid last night shame he didnt score should of won easily 2 points dropped as far as im concerned.

Anyone reckon Evans will start for Sunday. ?

Yep I think he will with Brown at RB. I think this is what we'll play.

------------Van-Der-Sar-----------
Brown---Ferdinand---Evans--Evra
----Scholes-Hargreaves-Fletcher--
-----Ronaldo--Berbatov--Tevez--

Reckon Rooney will be dropped.

what a load of bollox!!

he deserved his reception for what he did on the pitch last season, or have so called supporters like yourself choosen to forget that and instead focus on aload of he say she say from the summer...

and me and mine all hold season tickets!

we created enough chances to win by a couple last night, denied by the post and had a shot cleared of the line...

did you watch the game?

imo not that it has much merit for your beloved club I would think if MUFC was on top of the table and scoring goals at wimp then , give Ronaldo a small reception ,but in light of your standing a proper hey Ronaldo we love ya! and go get`em cheer was spot on . He needs to start where he left off :LIE: (viva Ronaldo is needed)

How much he was twat over summer at least he accepted he done wrong and did apologise at end of day. Booing him will be no good for team and he will grow tired and could probably leave lets face it who would want to be at club where people just going to curse you.

I was annoyed as many others by his behaviour he drama queen everyone knows that unfortunately its personality trait. If he does it again then all well and good but we all can learn from our mistakes i would rather see him playing for us then not playing he bring flair to team and be big loss to Prem imo.

But anyway come here to post about Foster gutted hoping he could have more of role this season cant stand Kuszczak.

The Ronaldo debate has us fans divided from what I can see, For me he doesnt deserve to be "Boo'd" no Manchester United player does BUT! he for me doesnt deserve to be singled out as a Hero, After everything that went on last summer I would have thought people wouldn't set themselves up for that I was wrong. Ronaldo is a great player no doubt, but so is Rooney, Tevez, Berbatov, Scholes, Giggs Rio, Vidic, Evra (could go on all day) I just dont think he deserves to be cheered more than the rest of the team.

The way I see it, Ronaldo has acheived more in 5 years than most great players will in a lifetime. That's club and individual awards. So maybe you can say it's the greed in all of us that wants more from him. He has more than justified his transfer fee here and helping us win our first CL since 99 definately repays the love we've given him. You can talk all you want about the other great players here but there are times when Ronaldo is in a league of his own.
So now we want more but don't think he deserves as much love? If you want him to stay then we should show him what he means to the club. If anything, you should be cheering louder than last season cuz you're asking this person who has already done so much for the team to forget about his childhood dreams and continue player for us. If anything convinces Ronaldo to stay with us, it'll be the fans.

For the first time in about 2 years I just can't see us nicking anything at the Bridge. It has just come to soon, and we've not managed a single game with our first XI yet this year. Team is not settled, players aren't confident and we're gonna be missing our Drogba control (if he plays).

Plus given Chelsea's record at home (70 unbeaten!!!) and such decisions as last year's 'clear' penalty...I have little to no hope. If we can limp to a draw that would be awesome, then our season can finally get some momentum. Chelsea fans must be absolutely delighted to be playing us now...

Saw our reserves play against blackburn on MUTV.Our kids are starting to look good but the Twins and Rodrigo played a different level really. They should be given a chance to break into the first team. One thing I didnt like was we were almost booting the ball upfield every other time. They should be zipping them round and mixing it up really.

Ole Solskjaer looked too young and too nice to be a manager but Sir Alex must have regarded him highly to put him incharge of the reserves.I wonder what happened to Brian McClair then?

Eight reasons why Manchester Utd will beat Chelsea at the Bridge on Sunday

1. Manchester United have a knack of ending unbeaten runs. They famously ended Arsenal’s 49-match unbeaten league run but also stopped Chelsea in November 2005 when they were on a 40-match unbeaten streak. Wayne Rooney also scored the goal that ended Arsenal’s 30-match unbeaten run in October 2002 for Everton.

2. The Red Devils have followed their last nine league defeats on the road with victory in their next away game.

3. United have only lost at Anfield four times in the Premier League. In three of those four seasons they were also victorious at Stamford Bridge, drawing on the other occasion. Just a coincidence? Perhaps not - United have only won four Premier League games at the Bridge in total.

4. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side haven’t lost consecutive league away games since April 2005 - away to Norwich and Everton.

5. Chelsea were top after four league games last season but lost the fifth against Aston Villa - kicking off a run of four games without a win.

6. This is also the first time since 2005 where the Blues have got through the first eight months of the calendar year without losing. On that occasion, Manchester United stopped them.

7. Chelsea failed to score in either of their two home league games last September and won none of their three home games in all competitions that month.

8. When Manchester United make a shaky start to the season, they tend to turn it around in big games. Last season United hadn’t won any of their first eight games in all competitions by a greater margin than one goal - then they beat Chelsea 2-0. In 2004/05, United won just one of their first five league games but beat Liverpool in the sixth. And in 1996/97, United won just one of their first four then thumped Leeds 4-0 at Elland Road.

I hope we do :))
