Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

It's gonna be some game mate! Let the best team win!

Can't believe Livershite and Chavs got piss easy draws AGAIN!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

I was just going to say that. Loser can concentrate on the league. It's bollocks how many Prem sides we've had to play. The odds must be astronomical.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

I feel for you guys. This is I think the 10th time you've got a PL club consecutively? I guess it makes the win all the bit sweeter, but this is just before the CL against Lyon, and Lyon can't be taken lightly. They are more than capably of causing an upset or two.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

The rocky road to the treble continue's;)... i new we were always gonna get a top team

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Same here mate,I was thinkin that it would be great if we got Pool but it gets even better...Arsenal.Big advantage as we are playing at home and in europe...we hold the best unbeaten record at home behind Real Madrid.

Cheers to that and sooo looking forward to February.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Yeah, 10th consecutive prem matchup for United in the FA Cup, can only think of what the probability of that is! No way is it random, I'm sorry. Didn't chelsea get to the final last year having played 1 (blackburn) prem team? Last time I remember seeing us play lower league was Millwall in the final, and I think we had an premiership run up to that one!!!

doesnt make that much difference really....

and imo its better for the cup if one of the big four goes out...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Exactly. We've beaten Liveryawn and Chavski and drawn away at Arsenal so far this season so it's all good. :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Vidic is still out with a virus,Saha and Neville still nursing injuries.Aside of those issues we have a full squad with Paul Scholes pushing for a start after his long layoff from injuries. What a player to have back at this stage of the season ey?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Giggs --- Hargreaves --- Scholes --- Ronaldo

is the perfect midfield in my opinion. We haven't had that since

Giggs --- Keane --- Scholes --- Beckham

It has Hargreaves doing the ugly work, Scholes playing more attacking-minded, Ronaldo & Giggs attacking the wings. Happy days! :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Its kinda hard to agree to your perfect midfield Plan M.I thought Carrick deserved a place in our starting 11.We virtually won the league with Scholes alongside Carrick in the middle.Anderson has a big shout also.

It is a healthy problem to have nonetheless.I would like us to play ala Milan with a strong tactical sense against stronger teams.Milan won the Champions league with this formation and we do have the players to match them this year.

--------------------VDS--------------------
-------------------------------------------
--Gaz--------Rio---------Vida--------Evra--
-------------------------------------------
------------------Carrick------------------
-------------------------------------------
------Hargreaves------------Scholes--------
-------------------------------------------
---------Ronaldo-----------Tevez-----------
-------------------------------------------
------------------Rooney-------------------

Carrick to play the Pirlo role,Hargreaves comparable to Gattusso and Scholes emulating Ambrosini.

Upfront I believe we have a better trio than Milan had back then in Kaka,Seedorf and Inzaghi.

To have Giggs,Nani,Anderson,Saha,Manucho(hopefully) and the likes of Fletcher and O'Shea among others is really a big big plus even for us.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

We would never play Carrick further back than Hargreaves Phrase as Owen is our "Makelele" if you like. Hargreaves was signed to hustle and bustle in midfield, to win the ball. I don't like it when United play 4-5-1 or 4-3-3. We have always been a team which relies on it's wingers.

I know what you are saying Plan M but I was comparing our team and the Milan team which won the CL last year...Pirlo was sitting in the middle spraying passes, deep lying playmaker while Gattusso and Ambrosini hustled the midfield...We can do that with Hargreaves,Carrick and Scholes.

To win the CL,we need to be tactically strong with some luck too but tactically superior with a rigid formation.

I do not think we are tactically disciplined yet but we can get there.
Honestly,Ronaldo is more effective coming inside or as the Second Striker/Free roaming forward...thats why he is comparable to Kaka.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Good points Phrase but at the end of the day, we are not Milan. We rely on pace to win our games. At times this season, I have noticed that United have turned 4-4-2 into 4-2-4 (especially at home):

--- Brown --- Rio --- Vidic --- Evra

------- Hargreaves -- Carrick ----

-- Ronaldo -- Rooney - Tevez -- Giggs

Ronaldo gets most of his goals due to cutting inside, I agree. :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

I came up with this formation bearing in mind how teams get tactically strong when playing against us.Some call it negative football, but they win you crucial matches.Example...Pompey today, they are at home and mind you, they will not play how they usually play just because it is us they are facing, even at home.We need to get one better and ahead of them when times like these comes.

I like the away game against Reading, now they play attacking and we were a bit conservative then.We literally grinded that win with great tactical strength and patience.

Giggs is the only natural winger we have and he is not getting any younger and by the looks of it,Ronaldo is somewhat turning into a forward soon.Sir Alex and Queiroz SURELY have realised this by now, hence the purchases of Hargreaves,Carrick and Anderson.Nani just provides covers for Giggs and Ronaldo. Can someone get me a job at United?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

We are at home tonight mate, we drew 1-1 at Portsmouth second game of the season, remember? (Ronaldo got sent off.)

...and no you can't get a job at United! You didn't even know we were at home tonight! ;)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

it is absolutely impossible for man utd to play milan's football, exactly as it would be absolutely impossible for milan to play man utd's football.
the tactical imprint is different, the interpreters are different.

having a playmaker a la pirlo is great.... but the point is that, since zidane retired, nobody in the world has the vision and the touch pirlo has.
it would be impossible for carrick to absolve pirlo's duties on the pitch, coz he couldn't. Carrick is a hell of a player but is a different kind of player. Carrick is more an "all around midfielder" than pirlo. he can hold and "guide" the midfield better than him. he also has some playmaking abilities. but there are many kind of playmakers, and he's more a playmaker a la makelele (or a la pizarro or a la ledesma...), as Plan m wisely pointed out.

the same way scholes, hargraves and anderson are very, very different from their milanese counterparts (gattuso, ambrosini and seedorf). they have different strong and weak sides. ambrosini could never have the same impact scholes has into the game and scholes could never do what ambrosini usually does...

and the same goes upfront. your attacking trio is completely different from the milan's trio. rooney and tevez haven't the same killer instinct gila and inzaghi have when they're into the box. On the other side, inzaghi and gila haven't the same unpredictability and mobility rooney and tevez have. inzaghi and gilardino couldn't switch their position continuously, as rooney and tevez usually do. they are "benchmark players" who hold their spot and look for support from the upcoming midfielders... while tevez and rooney continuously move along the opponent's defensive line and move backwards too, to support the midfield (exactly the opposite of milan's fowards).
the only players who absolve almost the same duties on the pitch are kakà and cristiano ronaldo.

u guys have a hell of a team... a better team than milan imo (and i think u were stronger than milan last year too). but u can't play milan's football.
and honestly i don't see why u should play milan's football, as your football looks awesome to me :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Good post Lo Zio (as always my friend.) :)

I agree, we will never play football like Milan - we play with pace, strength and agility. We use the wings a lot too. As for Scholes, he never breaks sweat but orchestrates the midfield with genius passes. He can slow the game down when we are winning and we always look a better team with him in the middle. He scores some stunning goals too!
