Re: Manchester United Thread - We need a Striker!!
ok mate, let me see if we purchase a new striker i think that would be good for the short term because we dont have many options "at the moment".
More than agree “thus far” hehe, a feeling a but is coming though.
but lets say we where to purchase any striker that would automatically put them infront of the cue for the likes of Saha, Ole, Anderson(isnt where he plays best but he can play there)so he would probably play around 5 - 10 games without no competition but then Saha would be back, Ole would be back, Rooney would be returning, Tevez would expect to play also so for the long term it would just cause a bunch of strikers trying to get a game which would leave some wanting away,,
I don’t think the club or anyone will consider Anderson as a forward or in competiton for that position. I am fairly sure that Anderson is on for the future and a player to come on for Scholes or even for Ronaldo at times. He is going to have cameos this season in midfield positions IMHO. If I am right that is that issue cleared up.
Buying a striker does not automatically put them ahead of anyone in a competition for places if you buy the right player and you let them know this. Since when has any player just walked into your team?
Getting Saha back is a big boost for you and any striker would be competing with him and Ole. But Ole is probably more an impact sub at this time in his career, more so than at any other time and he will not complain about being on the bench if needs be as he is amazingly loyal and puts the club first. Saha is NOT remotely guaranteed to stay fit and a new striker would be cover and would also push Saha and keep him on his toes.
Rooney should be behind Saha as a split striker as that is his best position, so he should be competing with Tevez for that role behind Saha. Again that is good competition for a different position. There will be enough games for both of them and remember Tevez is a good gamble for Ferguson because he is only a loan signing and if it doesn’t work out no big deal…in the meantime though it is good competition for Rooney and that position and cover for Rooney. No one should expect to play at your club and fighting for a place would be the name of the game. You had four players fighting for two places back in 1999, so why not five players fighting for two places this time round? Is that so different? Would it be bad?
When you had four into two they were all fit and not injury prone but this time you don’t have that so five into two with two injury prone seems reasonable to me.
and i dont know why you think we would (if he's a success) splash out 30M for Rooney's bench warmer it is clear that are main pairing will be Rooney & Tevez so buying a striker that would cost us 8-10M would probably be fighting a lost cause trying to get ahead of them two so instead of buying a new striker we can just use someone like fraizer Campbell who will want to impress but when the big guns return wont really mind going back to a bench warmer
Rooney and Tevez will NOT work it WILL fail if Tevez is the front man and Rooney behind him. If you play Rooney ahead of Tevez you will limit his strengths and have a very good player instead of a world class player. Saha is a finisher and player who will naturally attack space more than Rooney or Tevez and as good as Saha is he is no where near as good as some out and out forwards out there. Yet I would be amazed if your first choice wasn’t Saha Rooney or Saha Tevez as opposed to Rooney Tevez.
If you go with Rooney Tevez, you will be too much like a team trying to score the perfect goal and lack balance IMHO.
But we shall see what happens.
