Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Agent links Berbatov to United!

20LEGEND

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer retired as a champion.
A true unknown turned into one of our best forwards ever.
Thanks for the memories Ole.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Agent links Berbatov to United!

retire the number 20... thanks oley for the memories
a true legend... hall of famer.. long live the baby faced assasin....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Agent links Berbatov to United!

A sad day for football.

It's always that way way a massive icon of a club and a legend to that club hangs up their boots, wimper on and continue to play but at a lower level (something Ole didn't do) or go to end their career abroad..

Sad when Shearer retired from Newcastle, sad when Van Nistelrooy and Henry left the premiership...sad when Fowler left Liverpool (I say that as an Evertonian).

For us it was sad when Big Dunc retired, I know he wasn't on the same level as Solsjaer, but he was an icon of the club and the way he battled made him special to Evertonians.

But I have a real respect for the three most natural goalscorers I ever wwatched and they were Lineker (breif spell at Everton) Fowler and Ole.....just supreme finishers.

At their best I can't recall any of them missing the target.

The last time I saw Solskjaer was at the Nou Camp in 99, he scored a quite important goal for you that night and that song was born...best to him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Agent links Berbatov to United!

He's staying to coach at Old Trafford apparently.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Agent links Berbatov to United!

I will miss you Ole, ill never forget them fantastic Super Sub appearances that you made :) the Champions League Final you won us and some of the great goals you scored :(

A sad time indeed. Yep we need another Solskjaer in our team, an out and out goal scorer. A poacher!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Agent links Berbatov to United!

Sky sports news have just said that the club have confirmed he will stay and be involved in a coaching role:( still not great news, but glad he's staying around the club:(

a salute to OLE!

kind of reafirms the fact that we need a new striker.

since january this year we've lost
Larsson
Ole
Rossi
Smith

we've only signed Tevez that plays in a front two (although a deeper role)

with Ole gone the only person that can play the CF role is the Balsaman himself Saha.

GO AND BUY ANELKA FOR £9MILL NOW!

if only mr Ferguson would answer my phonecalls :(

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Agent links Berbatov to United!

ok i earlier said we didnt need a striker i know change my mind we need one Adriano on loan is ok but i would prefer someone who wont mind sitting on the bench

glad you finally saw the light :) now for sir alex :(

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Agent links Berbatov to United!

Not Adriano, i've never liked him i'd rather have anelka, but then again:lol: i'd rather have berbatov than anelka.

And today Adriano said he is not interested in any loan move, just a permanent move he wants.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Agent links Berbatov to United!

Anelka right now's looking like a great buy but I'm looking at what Adriano can potentially be with the right guidance and think he could be deadly. With his physique, power and skill, he should be as good or even better than Drogba.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ole "The Legend" Retires!!

Its a sad day for the club...

but when you put in context with news coming out of spain re the seville player who passed away, Ole will still be involved with the club in some capacity...

Ole was one of the best finishers ive seen at OT and will be sadly missed...

My fave Ole goal (apart from the obvious) was a left footed strike against a french team in the CL, it was awesome, cant think of the team but with "best ofs" appearing on you tube im sure i'll find it soon...

ole going has once again highlighted our need of a striker, not sure who its going to be but we NEED one in, and quick!!

The team he scored against was Lile back in 2001...

Dream on Vann

yeah he'll stay at siddy for life where he will fulfill all his ambitions....

lol and you say im dreaming...

give it a season or two, as I said may not be us but a bigger club will take him soon enough....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ole "The Legend" Retires!!

In the argument about the need for a striker I totally forgot you had Larson last season as well...

Of course he made a big difference in his short stay as well.

It just shows you how much you need a striker and how right I was....tongue in cheek or not hehe

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ole "The Legend" Retires!!

A part of me thinks Ole decided to hang up his boots now knowing it'll give us some time to sign a replacement. It happened so quick that there has to be something we dont know about. If he had done it a month later, we probably would have been screwed.

The polar opposite of Manny Fernandes who screwed us over. Solsjaer put Man Utd first in all situations, whether he was beeing picked, or sub etc anything....counts fo a hell of a lot and something you don't see too much these days.

Why would Man Utd signing a replacement depend on Solskjaer's position at the club? Surely Ferguson is smart enough to know that he had to bring in a new striker anyway, whatever happened? You can't forget that Ole is 34, with a history of injury. He may have scored a lot of goals, but he's also been a liability. It would be a missive risk having him and Saha as your only out-and-out strikers.

I really don't think there's anything dubious about him retiring like this. His knee problems finally got the better of him.

i've been saying it since Larsson left :)

don't want Adriano, if it was him or nothing i'd take it but i'd prefer Anelka (he's 100% proven, his pace and finishing are great), i'd love to see Berbatov at United but considering how much we've already spent i can't see us splashing another £25mill+ on him.

Favourite Ole goal (apart from the obvious) - against the dippers in 99, quarter final of the FA cup. he did the keeper with his eyes :)

All I'm saying is that he probably announced it now rather than later to push the manager to buy another forward. No point telling me he's 34 or how injury prone he is cuz obviously Sir Alex still thinks he could do the job. Otherwise we would have had another forward by now.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ole "The Legend" Retires!!

I personally think we NEED a forward know but fergie is in a bit of a pickle with already saying he WONT bring in a forward and with only somewhat 3-4 days to go i think if anything is to happen it would be in the last few hours or even minutes of the deadline day.. i hope he does bring someone in but something tells me he wont go back on his word

Thats what i was thinking especially at £10m

Feguson is very stuborn!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ole "The Legend" Retires!!

Don't think SAF would go for le sulk - just not really a United type of player. Classy, but clearly has games where he could care less, that's not really what Fergie traditionally goes for. Wouldn't be surprised if its some relatively unknown target man.

As for Smithy and Rossi - I still don't see either of them being the real answer. Rossi wouldn't exactly give us something new up front (tevez or rossi?) and Smithy, while we all love him, doesn't really impress me anymore since hte injury. Which sucks, but there you go.

What I don't get it SAF's reliance on Saha. I mean really, is the past no indicator of the future?!

I just think it's strange to think that his retirement is some kind of noble gesture. As if the manager wouldn't do anything unless Solskjaer decided to leave. If Ferguson hasn't bought another striker yet, it's because he hasn't found anyone that he thinks can fill the position. Ole leaving won't speed up the search for a new striker, it just makes the situation more serious - which it was anyway.

They're not Man Utd players anymore. Smith was sold to Newcastle and Rossi was sold to Villarreal...

Sir Alex didnt want to bring in anyone because he said (many times) that he doesnt feel he needs one seeing how he has Ole and Saha.
Ole has gone so that obviously changes everything.

Sorry, I meant comments as a response to those calling SAF stupid for selling them - they weren't a long term answer anyway :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ole "The Legend" Retires!!

it was on 5 live this morning in the rumours section that Adriano was in manchester this morning to discuss a move, they then went on to say that it wasn't city.

personally i don't believe it or want it to be true but i figured i'd report it anyhow

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ole "The Legend" Retires!!

I hope we don't sign Owen. He'll just add to our injury problems rather than solve them.

Wouldn't mind taking Adriano on loan. We know he has the talent. SAF just needs to drill a no bullshit mentality into him and he could be back to a 20 goal a season striker.

Unsure of Anelka. Like a previous poster said, we must not forget that for every great game he has, he has at least another 2 or 3 games where he couldn't give a shit
