Manchester United Thread

my mate recorded from somewhere, its bloddy funny so i posted here :mryellow:

Yes it was a good game and a fair result. Both teams could have nicked it at the end but we are happy with a point. Next weekend's game should be a cracker and I can't wait.

There is nothing between these two teams

Apart from 12 points.... ;)

For the last two seasons,I cant see Arsenal literally beating United to be honest.Very little between both teams.Superb goal by Henry, and and even superb team effort by United for the equaliser,I thought we finished stronger and should have nicked it in the end, roll on part 2.

1-1

giggs position was clear penalty, no questions about it. bloddy wanker ref

If you watch closely, the alleged foul was bluntly outisde the box. That's a fact. Plus, in my opinion, Giggs fell over his own feet.

Poll had a good match, actually. He rightly didn't give Henry a penalty. I have to say the Reyes shout was tough. I was 50-50 on that.

Giggs wasnt a penna - watch it again and like the others are saying it was outside the box. I think Campbell DID clip him though so it should have been a foul.

did you guys hear Saha's comments about RVN, what a prick, I hope united sell him, and get a stud....

I agree with Saha with that comment,I mean,he didnt say anything unreal, but all he said are facts.Ruud even said that he was a completely different player from Henry. So chill out dude.

What he said was true, Ruud will admitt it himself, the other comments about how good a player Ruud is we're conveniently omitted....

i thought he said he wasnt a big game player, but i thought that was the knock on Henry, you dont think he was disrespecting Ruud? What did he say about RVN that was positive? But still, you should never openley say something like that about a teamate....

“Ruud doesn’t take much of a part in the team’s collective play. His game is all about finishing.”

Ruud is one of the better defensive forwards I have seen, he tracks back when warranted, and goes all out like a maniac when he is playing defense, that is certainly "collective play" he is not simply a cherry picker.....

errm..... sometimes you need a player like Ruud especially with the formation that Man U play. Thats not to say that he's crap - thats just the sort of striker he is. I'll probably put Fowler under the same category.

Rather than me blabbering on, I'll just copy and paste this interesting article from BBC sport. Sadly, he seems to be a bit biased (!) but does make some valid points....

Who is the best?
By Tom Fordyce

Is Thierry Henry a better striker than Ruud van Nistelrooy?

As Arsenal charge on towards a potential Treble, Henry continues to score goals at a rate (nine in his last 10 games) and of a quality (see last Sunday) that takes the breath away.

Up at Old Trafford, Van Nistelrooy is finding life somewhat harder. His last nine games have yielded just two goals.

Now his club strike partner, Louis Saha, has started to make unflattering comparisons between his club and international team-mates.

"Ruud has never played in major finals, and he needs to gain experience at the highest level," said Saha.

"He never scores from outside the 18-yard area and never takes free-kicks. It is very rare to see him trying his luck from distance.

"Ruud doesn't take much of a part in the team's collective play. His game is all about finishing."

Hardly the sort of praise one wants to hear from the man who plays alongside you, and exactly the sort of comment that appears to highlight Henry's attributes - his ability to play wide, create chances for others and score from anywhere.

This season, Henry has scored 34 goals in 46 appearances for club and country. Van Nistelrooy has managed 29 from 45. Only one winner, surely?

Or not. Let's look at Saha's criticism first of all.

All fair points on the surface, except by his standards you would also have to say that Gary Lineker and Ian Rush weren't up to much as strikers either. And Michael Owen might have to raise his hand as well.

Maybe Saha hadn't noticed that, prior to his arrival, Van Nistelrooy had been carrying out the sort of unselfish work up front that could have seen him win medals for selfless striking.

In the Champions League, Van Nistelrooy was reduced to playing as a target man on the halfway line, holding the ball up under extreme pressure as United struggled to get their passing game going.

He performed that role to a standard that would have made Mark Hughes proud. He also continued scoring goals, despite being shorn of his number one supply route (David Beckham) and playing without a regular partner.

When Van Nistelrooy's goal-scoring record is compared with Henry's over their entire English club careers, the stats cast an interesting light.

Henry has scored 133 goals in 221 games for Arsenal, at a rate of 0.6 goals per game. Van Nistelrooy has 106 in 132 games for United, giving him a rate of 0.8.

Over his league career in France, Italy and England, Henry has scored 0.43 goals per game. Van Nistelrooy's record in Holland and England leaves him with 0.60 goals per game.

Sure, Henry was playing as a winger for most of his time at Juventus and Monaco. And scoring goals in Serie A is harder than in Holland.

But if we rightly praise his ability from free-kicks and with assists, we also have to raise the issue of his heading skills - or rather the relative absence of them.

Suddenly it's not so easy to choose between the two players, is it?

Let's try this question as a way of concentrating the mind: which of the two would you rather have in your team right now?

Complicated answer: you would rather have them both in the same side.

If Henry was playing for United, he would be scoring fewer goals. If Van Nistelrooy was in Arsenal's starting line-up, he would be banging in more.

Put them together - quit that day-dreaming, Roman - and you have a partnership with almost everything - the pace to slice through teams, strength on the ball to drive defenders insane, spectacular strikes from anywhere and predatory finishing.

And most of all, goals, goals, goals...

and besides, you know what the media is like......

rockykabir,
excellent find, i was just thinking in my head what the writer was writing, and in my mind, a strikers job is to score goals, doesnt matter how pretty they are, and overall Ruud scores more often then henry, and its hard to say who creates more, as ruud is often the lone forward, while henry creates chances with his masterfull skills, for me it is a toss up, and Saha made uneducated and stupid comments.. IMO

over the last 4 years? how has henry faired, this season henry is playing out of his mind, would you agree, and ruud played out of his mind last year, thats why its a toss up to me, both great strikers, both have pros and cons, you would not be worse off for not having one player vs the other..... saha should have kept his mouth shut, IMO

I think both Henry and Ruud were good last year, there was only 1 or 2 goals between them but Henry had around 20 more assists.

its been a dodgy year for RVN some games hes been The true van the man we know, then some games he isnt, whever its him being man marked too easily i dont know. Also he had that pressure on him from the Dutch boss, but hopefully next year RVN will be back to his fully best

Cristiano played today, he played brilliantly, he used his tricks effectively and got past defenders on many occasions. For the last 10 minutes he was the furthest man forward after Ole came off! But was then substituted for Bellion, but he had a blast.

Well done Cristiaaanooo
