Manchester United Thread

First there'll be a headline saying he's missing and his mum as been kidnapped. THEN there will be the headline about him joining Chelsea.

In the summer when Chelsea played in the US Adu was not too impress with Chelsea . This is good news I wondered who arrange this... Glazers

Freddy Adu...a name that has been lingering around top clubs for quite some time now.The boy does have skills,no doubt. The question is,can he bring it on the big stage? The report had it down like it was never a trial for Adu when infact it is...

Anyone in the US actually see him play week in week out? Does he dominate midfields in the MLS? If not, I can't imagine he's ready for the big leagues. Then again (birth certificate pending) he is like 5 years old, so has time to develop!

Parker would be a brilliant signing. I perfered him a long time ago but then Hargreaves pulled off those great performances for England.

United have denied Adu is coming over to train with the first team...

Whoa, why would they deny it? Even if it's not true just say nothing's been finalised or the like. Wouldn't want to burn any bridges!

Parker would be a more than welcome addition to the squad. Would Newcastle be as nice as Bayern and take O'Shea too?

Only question for me would be if we prefer Parker over Hargreaves, cause i'm sure we could get Owen eventually. Then we'd be left in a position to buy him, but already have Parker, who probably wouldn't be hpapy on the bench. So who's better?

And would Newcastle actually sell?

probley cos the club arent interested/dont rate him and dont want to be used as tool in getting the kid sold to another club...

I think if the barcodes dont get out of their current situation he would welcome a change of scenery, shame he's cuptied...

we should get duff aswell, the two of them would really be a boost to the squad...

How about swapping O'shea and Silvestre for Parker. Imagine their team.
Defence - Bramble and Silvestre. Midfield Jenas and O'Shea

Why? Do Spurs not want Jenas anymore?

Manchester United have confirmed to Sky Sports News that American teenager Freddy Adu will link up with the club for a two-week trial.

The Washington Post reported on Wednesday that the DC United ace was to spend two weeks with the Premiership giants later this month.

United earlier moved to reject the report but have now made a U-turn on their previous stance.

The 17-year-old is expected to train with the Premiership giants towards the end of the month to allow him to get a taste of English football.

If he impresses manager Sir Alex Ferguson, The Red Devils could step up their bid to land the Ghana-born striker in January.

Adu turns 18 next June and would therefore be eligible to move to Europe ahead of next season, but United may look to wrap up a deal as soon as possible.

However, they are likely to face stiff competition from across Europe with clubs such as Chelsea and Real Madrid also linked with the teenage sensation.

But United appear to have stolen a march on their rivals by luring him to Old Trafford for a short trial.

Adu still has a year remaining on his contract with DC United but is known to be a fan of The Premiership and could look to quit Major League Soccer for England next year.

yes, i have seen dc united play in person around 18 to 20 times this season and every season since he has joinend. His game is in spurts, One game he makes brilliant passes, the next he is steady but nothing spectacular. A couple of things to note

1)dc united is by far the best team in the league, even though they lost in the playoffs. They play the best brand of football, they have the best player in the league, and possibly one of the best players ever in the league, and they are just solid all around. Thus the team is not built around Adu, he is just another part in the engine. He role is to do what he is asked to do and nothing more, not show off for the foreign leagues.

2)he is still very very young, 17. At 17 most players dont dominate any league. Rooney wasnt dominating the EPL at his age for example. Of course im not comparing MLS to EPL, but i think dc united is of the caliber of the top teams in the championship for example. He has lots of times to develop.

3)he is not a forward, think paul scholes.... with a wicked left foot, instead of right...

all in all he is worth a flyer, 5 million is nothing for united to spend, and if they can get him for around that much, then its worth the risk

sorry van, wasnt implying you were... yes you were right, then they backed off, i wonder why, kinda of weird?

So Adu is on the way, this is definately Glazers doing and there has been rumours of a vicious dressing room bust up between him and SAF because Ferguson didn't want Adu to come, within the next 2 seasons United will be almost completely Americanised and players like Rooney will be transported to another country like Italy where his passive relaxed style of play will be better appreciated and suited to the slower technical game. So you'll have Tim Howard between the sticks and Adu up front, who's a good option for midfield? Maybe you guys could look at Claudio Reyna, or how old is that McBride guy? He could slot in nicely there beside Carrick for while. Are you guys happy with the American revolution there now? Maybe it would be a nice gesture to sing a traditional American song during the matches, a rendition of "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" sometime around the 70th minute would be apt I would imagine.

I think cos we get used too many times by agents etc who say United are interested just to raise the profile of the player...

plus the media side of things at united is terrible, always has been...

Whole thing has been a bit weird.

Personally I like the sounds of him. Though it seems to me in the prem he'd be more suited to being a winger. His ball control is apparently ridiculous, and he's clearly pacey. For £5m he'd be worth it any day, he'd probably pay that back in shirt sales in a year alone. Let's hope he gets along well in the trial and is interested! Though I do recall him being quoted as saying he liked Chelski or something in the summer.

Csaunders: You've seen enough of him, do you think he could cut it? Is he the best player you were referring to?

See, I realise you're trying to be funny, and I respect that. The problem is it's just....not.

oh no, he certainly isnt the best player in the DC United squad. That would be Christian Gomez, and argentinian who is a fucking joy to watch(best player ever could be jamie moreno, used to play for everton when he was younger, but most would say Etchevery el diablo was). Ahh beachy he really isnt pacey, not like ronaldo, he is quick, but like i said, he needs to be central. He is a fantastic crosser of the ball, but i dont think he is fast enough on the wings. He is a very creative passer, so thats why i like him in the middle... and he has a very powerful shot, very...

now do i think he could cut it... man so hard to say, he has MASSIVE potential... it will be very intresting to watch him play in europe, god i hope his loan would be too a team i can actually watch..

sounds like he's a scholsey type player, lol if he's a 1/2 as good as the ginger prince we'll have him!!

like I said if he does come then it'll be interesting to see what the other players think of him...

you know i wouldent mind 1 bit if adu came but ithink hes game is not for the EPL... but lets see how the trial goes if he impreses SAF i would like him to join but if he does not come i wouldent be 2 sad
