Manchester United Thread

To be honest, Nicky, I reckon you Gooners are storming in the Premiership this season (did I say that?) and it could well be your year. Because we have re-shaped our squad, it means we are not being as consistent as United fans are used to, great for the rest of the football world. We need players to settle, Ferdinand was playing the best football of his career as he left and Brown looks nervous. The Goons haven`t reshaped too much, they all seem to know what they are doing. You will have problems if Mr. Henry is added to the injury list, but you don`t need me telling you that. So, I think Arsenal may well do it. I hope I`m wrong. As for your `keeper and Ashley Cole, well, I can`t stand either of them. . . :D
I was talking to a good friend in the pub last night, an obsessed Gooner, goes to almost every game, and he was saying how jealous most of the Arsenal fans are very jealous that United won the Champions League title in `99, and wants Arsenal to go full-steam ahead for it this year, to be taken seriously in Europe etc. He doesn`t give a crap about any of the other trophies, he wants the jewel-in-the-crown. I told him to get ready to be disapointed, no English team is taking that home this season . . . . :D

I agree I don't know if we can win the champions league but at least semis I say. I also think Lehman is going the right way about getting a bad reputation. All he bloody does is whinge. I do like Howard and at the moment he would be the one player I would take from your team. I honestly think we can win th league but it wont be a walkover, the top 3 are pulling each other along, they are all winning games meaning you can't afford to slip up. I think Chelsea may not be around for the last month cause thy haven't looked as sharp the last few months but it is exciting.

People say our league is boring cause theres only 3 teams in it. Theres only really 2 in Spain, 2 in Italy and possibly 3 in France. The big teams really are dominating this year and it isn't just over here.

finally a civilised conversation btween two sets of rivals!

i am a manu fan n have to admit dat arsenal r quality!

The Premiership is bloody quality, I love it, week-in, week-out. I watch the odd Serie A game on Eurosport on a Sunday, usually get bored, too. We have got all the big-named players coming over here now, its interesting. I don`t watch much of the Spanish league, I know its supposed to be the best league in the world, though - but I can`t be bothered with it. I follow the English Premiership, period. Can`t be fuc*ed with the other leagues - too slow. Have you ever watched a Dutch game on C5, Thursday nights? It`s like watching paint dry. Sooooooooo boring. Nothing happens. No wonder all the good Dutch players go else-where to play.
I love watching United, even enjoy Arsenal on the odd occassion (not when they are playing us!) and generally love English football - c`mon United, show them other leagues how big we are! 8)

Seems like Fergie is still looking for a new full back, the past couple of seasons we've been interested in Escude or Rennes (dont know what happened to that deal) Trabelsi and Puyol and nothing has come of it.

According to the MEN:

MANCHESTER United have been linked with a summer swoop for Portuguese international full-back Paulo Ferreira.

The 25-year-old Porto defender has been watched by United scouts in recent games and could make a £5 million summer switch to Old Trafford.

Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to sign a right back in the summer as cover for England stalwart Gary Neville, and with Arsenal and Chelsea both ready to gazump a bid for Ajax's Hatem Trabelsi he could turn to Ferreira.

Ferreira has made great strides in the past two seasons since moving from Estoril Praia and made his international debut against England in 2002.

He was also named in Uefa's all-star team selected from the first round of the Champions League and is expected to be a key player as Portugal host this summer's European Championships.

Im not sure of his pedigree anyone seen/heard of this fella.

I spose i'll see him up close and personal in the coming weeks.....

Matteo Ferrari is classy and composed, quite like in the same mould as Rio Ferdinand, decent defender too,I mean, any defenders from the land of defenders,Italy,is worth a second look.

BTW,who the hell is demento?????

its typical for frustrated players to do that ... they dont win anything and they say things that they actually shouldnt ..

Im Happy we got City at Old Trafford..but as A Red Manc i have to take my hat off to the Blue Half tonight. With only 10 men and 3-0 down at half time we all thought it was game over but as Citys season has been a game of 2 halfs all season they go and produce 1 of the most amazing comebacks your gonna see this Century.

Roll on Valentines day:)

Real Madrid midfielder Guti repeated has admission that he is seriously considering leaving the club at the end of the season. The Spaniard said: "I've thought many times about leaving Real Madrid, I only decided to stay last year because Makelele was leaving." Guti also said he preferred former boss Vicente Del Bosque over current incumbent Carlos Queiroz. And the 27-year-old has apparently said to have ambitions of playing for Man Utd at some point in his career.

Meanwhile, Porto's 25-year-old £5m-rated Portuguese defender Paulo Ferreira was watched by Manchester United scouts with a view to a summer move.

Two superb summer transfers I'd say.

that would be good, strengthening up our back, maybe guti though, not ferreira, anyone know of him? and guti coming here would be good, since queiroz just left OT, coming here and having a chance to play against his ole club in CL maybe ;)

BIG THREE WARNED BY UEFA

The Premiership's big three teams have been warned they must release players for Fifa's centenary match in May, just two days before the FA Cup final.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are all battling to reach the Millennium Stadium showpiece, although one of the London pair will be knocked out in the fifth round.

Any of the clubs' plans for the May 22 final, though, could be wrecked by call-ups for a Fifa celebration match between Brazil and France in Paris on May 20.

Fifa deputy general secretary Jerome Champagne has already made the case clear by affirming any players chosen for the game must be present in the French capital.

Champagne's sentiments have been echoed by Uefa chief executive Lars Christer Olsson, who insists The Football Association have been aware of the centenary fixture for a long time, ever since the introduction of a harmonised international calendar in 2000.

"It has been agreed to by everyone and so it should be stuck to by them," said Olsson.

"Of course, the English clubs should release their players if they are selected.

Manchester United's Mikael Silvestre and Kleberson, Arsenal's Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Robert Pires and Gilberto Silva, along with Chelsea ace Claude Makelele could all be affected by the game.
