Manchester United Thread

We've been linked with Torres for a couple of years now, and what with our Spanish links I wouldn't be surprised if that still happened.

Spector's joined West Ham today. Personally thought he was one of our better prospects so not really happy to see him go.

Zakora is quality.

All the doubters of this guy should be silenced after these two games played in WC.

Think we should get him

I was very impressed with Zokora again today. Looks a real quality player but another target Mascherano was pure class today aswell. He just continually kept winning the ball and made simple but effective passes to the more attacking players...just what we've been lacking.
Would be handy if we could get both of them within the region of 15mil rather than pay over the odds for Diarra or Carrick.
On another note i was quite upset at Riquelme performing so immaculately as his value would now have been doubled and maybe out of reach forus.

The problem with the argentinians is that you need all 3 really, macherano, cambiasso and riquelme are great together, but wihtout the other 2, I'm not sure how they'd do. However, were SAF to sign the lot, well then, I think we'd be in shape for next year :)!

More than 3. Theres the new homegrown rules next season. Mascherano seems like hes heading to Inter where his buddies Burdisso, Cruz, Zanetti and Samuel are to replace Veron.

And also South Americans, especially Argentinians, usually have Italian passports as well.

After seeing Ruud score that goal for Holland, I thought, who needs another striker if one of ours can finish with such confidence like that?
Other than maybe Henry, I dont think we'll find anyone else out there that will give us what Ruud does.

Your right, the problem doesnt lay upfront I cant see why this problem has been created with Ruud, fucking picky Fergie

As for Torres I dont reckon he would be able to cut it in the prem. I reckon he would have performances like Ronaldo which are very hot and cold in which United cant afford any more of these players its bad enough with Ronaldo.

As for the main problem which is midfield - Zokora has impressed me in the World Cup, Mascherano too. United have been linked with Petit and Diarra and have bidded for Carrick so at least Fergie is trying to fix the problem in midfield, my tip would be Zokora probably the cheapest option and hes an affective player.

For some reason, I'd still really prefer Scott Parker. He seems to have that "get in there" factor that guys like John Terry, Keano, and Alan Smith have.

Which reminds me, if we get a holding midfielder, we'll have an extra striker in Smith so we probably wont need to sign a striker.

Parker is a good midfielder but seems to get injured all the time which wouldnt be that great.

If the extra striker would be Smith if Ruud leaves I dont think this would be good enough at all, I really do reckon United would struggle for goals if Smith returned back upfront

Keep Ruud, and go all out and buy Carrick and Zokora I say, maybe Ribery too at a push! ;)

Would Sir Alex want both Carrick and Zokora?
We just need one midfielder and a winger. And maybe a striker if Ruud leaves but we'd all rather keep Ruud.

We need 2 midfielders. Players only doing a job will only get you so far especially in Europe.

SO you guys think Wesley is good enought to replace Gary Neville? As he is aging.

Wes Brown? I prefer him at CB. As for the RB position, Gary will be there until he retires. Bardsley can play decently there though but he needs more games. So may be him for the future, no need to spend there.

About the midfield, Carrick will be too expensive. Spurs wont let him go for at least £15 million. Also the lad cant even tackle properly. Im for Zokora or Mascherano. These two impress big time in Germany. But then again Mascherano will be costly too, so Zokora is the likely option.

If RVN continues to score and impress in Germany, you guys reckon SAF will still let him go? I see this tournement as a trial seperation for them. So after, they can return to love each other again and ready for the new season.

Well said mate - I have been saying this since the beginning of the 'Ruud is leaving' speculation. Rooney playing just behind Van Nistelrooy is every defence's nightmare - the Dutchman is still the most natural finisher in the world in my opinion and I would be GUTTED if he left.

I agree they are a deadly duo, but Sir Alex prefers Saha... god knows why.....

Its Sir Alex who thinks hes bigger than the club now...not Ruud. This isnt the first time hes done this aswell as we remember the Beckham saga.

Just maybe this is all paper talk and Fergie explained to Ruud that he would be resting him at the end of the season to give Saha a good run in the side. What's the point of not testing Saha after his injuries and keeping an unknown quantity for another season before selling him. Fergie will now know if Saha is good enough, although personally I don't think he is.

After another very nice display from Torres... are you still that little excited about his signing? He's been a consistent scorer in a somewhat weak side like Atlético Madrid, scoring almost always against Barcelona, and has won almost everything with the Spanish U- sides.

I think he'd suit the Premiership more than the Serie A: he's strong, fast and skilled, and can be very very dangerous if given enough space. He's got a very good header and would make an interesting RNV replacement. Give the guy a chance, I don't want to see Torres stop his progression by not playing at Milan (Inzaghi is at the end the one who plays, year after year ;)). Gilardino+Inzaghi are a greater competition than Saha+Solskjaer, and Torres is used to play every minute of every single game.

I think we should get Torres :)

------------------------VDS---------------------
Neville----Feridnand---Brown/Vidic---Heinze/Evra
C.Ronaldo-------------Carrick?--------------Park
----------------Rooney--------------------------
------------Torres-------------v.Nistelrooy-----

But we might be left back footed without the defense, having only one defensive midfielder, but we should score lots of goals, a bit like Brasil.

Just like your formation suggests, Torres IMO is a second striker and not someone that would replace Ruud. So in that case, are we desperate for a player like that? I've never thought of him as a bad signing cuz he's still very young but he'll never be a good replacement for Ruud as long as he's playing cuz they are very different. Torres is more like Shevchenko rather than Ruud.
If only we could get Torres and then get rid of Saha but thats too good to be true.

At the rate Nando Torres is going rite now,he can only get better if he joins us and learn from the master predator himself,Ruud van Nistelrooy.I am beginning to really like Torres.Next up,its Ruud vs Heinze!!

After watching Ruud in all his world cup games, is anyone else unimpressed? Fine he scored once and played the offisde trap well that one time, but he's generally been outpaced to every ball, and hasn't created many chances at all. This tournament was supposed to be his chance to show how good he really is, but I haven't seen it yet.
