You mean a replacement for keane!:)
Thats exactly what I meant! :)

Heres some speculation for Man Utd fans.
We've been linked with a £35million bid for Buffon.
That would kick so much ass if we got hold of him. But its very unlikely.

Hope Glazer isnt such an ass when it comes to transfers.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

We arent gona get the likes of Buffon or Cassillas. I still think its worth taking a gamble on Robert Green. As for Keanes replacement, well Essien now looks Chelsea bound so what are the other options?

Doubt Buffon would leave, hes very settled, and he just won the Scudetto.
Thats the reasion why I dont think he'd leave. Plus he wasnt won the CL with Juve yet so he has a reason to stay.
But then again, money talks.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

Richardsons getting better and better. I say another season or half on loan at West Brom and hopefully he could gradually take over from Giggsy. Would save us alot of money aswell.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

Yeah. He did well for England with his 2 goals.
Showed a great workrate like Giggs with his defending too.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

I've hearing rumors of Rob Green being linkrd to United.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

CARROLL SAYS HE DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE
"I've had four great years and I want to thank Sir Alex and the staff, but I have to move on.

"I am a little disappointed because I would have liked to have stayed, but I felt the deal being offered just wasn't right and I'm just looking to playing for another good club."

Although Carroll's agent, Francis Martin, has had contact with several Spanish clubs, the Irishman wants to stay in the Premiership.

Having rejected around £20,000 a week at United, Carroll would expect to collect around £30,000 at Everton - and that would be possible with Everton boss David Moyes able to sign him on a free transfer.

Thats true but he's still very young and just look at guys like Lampard and Terry. What age did those players suddenly became stars?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

A good point but people were saying they were going to be stars before they were. the same cant be said about Richarson really!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

5 top stories that caught my interest on manutd.com.I think story 1 is realistic enuff to believe.I'm backing story 2 too, this unknown guy could be our 3rd keeper.I'd love for story 3 to happen, finally we would have a specialist in setpieces.Story 4 could come true but we should keep Sheasy and story 5 is a transfer waiting to happen for quite some time now.

1.Fortune & £6m to get Given
Newcastle’s Shay Given is the keeper Manchester United want to replace Roy Carroll. A £6million package deal, which could include Old Trafford midfielder Quinton Fortune going to Tyneside, is being discussed. And Given is said to have sold his home in the North East and bought a property in Cheshire.

2.Sir Alex back for Lastuvka
Manchester United will step up interest in Chelsea star Petr Cech’s international understudy Jan Lastuvka, following the surprise exit of Roy Carroll last week. As we revealed in February, United’s goalkeeping coach Tony Coton is a big fan of the Czech Republic number two, who plays for Shakhtar Donetsk and is valued at around £2.5million.

3.United nuts for Brazilian
Alex Ferguson will seal a £3million raid for Lyon’s Brazilian play-maker Juninho. The United boss believes he has agreed a deal with the French club for Juninho Pernambucano, 30, who is out of contract next summer. Lyon offered him a new deal and he indicated he would stay – but United’s interest has turned his head.

4.O’Shea all set for Kop switch
John O’Shea is a shock target for Liverpool. Even though he started the FA Cup Final, the £6million-rated Manchester United defender is finding it increasingly difficult to hold down a regular starting place at Old Trafford. And his task is likely to get tougher this season as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to introduce outstanding young centre-halves Jonathan Spector and Gerard Pique into the first team.

5.Get Figo Fergie!
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is being urged by his assistant Carlos Queiroz to sign Madrid’s Luis Figo. Figo, 32, has been told he can leave Real on a free transfer this summer – even though he has a year remaining on his current contract at the Bernabeu. Recruiting a player of Figo’s age would go against Fergie’s recent transfer policy. But Queiroz is arguing that an exception should be made for Figo. United’s assistant manager insists, as a free agent, he would be a bargain, even though he would demand at least £70,000 a week on a short-term contract.

oh noes!

'United failure could cost Nike deal'
Manchester United have been warned by major sponsors Nike that a continued lack of success could cost them dear.

The sportswear manufacturers began a 13-year kit deal with the Red Devils in August 2002 worth up to £303million to the Old Trafford club.

However, it is reported that a get-out clause will allow Nike to decide in July next year whether to continue that agreement past the 2007-08 season.

And vice-president of sports marketing Ian Todd has admitted his company will be monitoring United's progress following their failure to win a trophy last season.

Todd told The Sunday Telegraph: 'We don't know what is going to happen next year. All options are open.

'Chelsea won the league this year, Arsenal won the FA Cup and Liverpool won the Champions League. So you could argue that Manchester United is only the fourth-best club in England at the moment.

'If, for example, Manchester United failed to qualify for the Champions League next season, that might be a problem. We will look very carefully at this situation, as we do with all our sponsorship agreements.'

The thing about Lampard was that we was still playing first team football with (I think) West Ham when he was still young. Richardson on the other hand was with the reserves all his career until he joine West Brom where he played really well. And now on his England debut, he scored two goals.
I you dont think he'll be that good in the future and to be honest, I dont think so either. But I'm not ruling out the possibility that some day he'll be a great player cuz we cant really predict these things.

As for our new keeper, maybe we should go ahead with the £35million bid for Buffon or pay more if we have to cuz if we actually get a keeper as good as him, we probably wont conceed as many goals as we do (Which is not much anyway) cuz most of the goals let in have been blunders.
But Buffon is just fantastic in goals. I know this transfer isnt likely but its worth a try.

We should definately get Figo if he's free. I know he'll ask for a high wage but its worth it if lives up to expectations.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

i think madrid have said they will let him go for 7m!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

7 FRIGGIN' MILLION?!?!?
He's just a great player thats waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay past his best.

But I heard that Madrid will let him go for Free...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

I'll cry if we get Figo, from saddness of course.
Figo is horrible, way way way past his best. If you've been watching la Liga you'd be very frustrated by him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

He's still worth it if he's free. If we have to pay anything then forget it.

Would you guys mind cash plus Ruud for Eto'o?

I wouldnt as hes 24 and can only get better which is frightening!

Where as Ruuds injuries seem to be catching up to him but it still may be to early 2 tell

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

We have to give Ruud a chance. He's a proven striker at Man Utd and he's already our greatest european goal scorer of all time.

I know but hes giving off body language that he wants 2 leave

He says he wants 2 stay but i dont know anymore!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

Thats true but if we actually start playing well again (Which I'm sure we will next season) no one in the team would feel that way.

This next season is argueably the most important in our history. If we screw this up, it will be 3 seasons without the Premiership title. Plus we would be in a lot of debt cuz Glazer needs the team to succeed if we wants to make money.
And I'm sure a lot of players will want to leave too. And no one id gonna give Sir Alex another chance if he screws this up so this could be his last season too.

Some people might not agree with this but we're gonna have to completely ignore the FA Cup and focus on the Premiership and CL only. Cuz those two competitions provide the most money. The best idea would be to bring back Richardson and play him in ALL the League Cup and FA Cup matches along with Rossi, Pique, and all the other fringe players like Bellion, Kleberson, etc.
In the Premiership, we'll need to put out our strongest team for EVERY game possible. I remember last season, the ONLY time (correct me if I'm wrong) we used our toughest team was against Milan.
I'm sure we're gonna spend in the transfer window cuz we just released 8 players including 2 goalkeepers. So with the new signings, hopefully we'll find it a bit easier cuz we're gonna have to fight for every result.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

I think Fergie should really try to sign Stewart Downing, that or have Fortune play more games as a left winger instead whatever position Fegie feels like having him playing.
I hope that Fletcher and Kleberson get more consistent first team runs next season, I feel they have potential.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

Stewart Downing would be good for us. And probably wouldnt cost much either.
This is a good move for Downing cuz we could help him get a ENgland place much easier.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

We already have a left winger in an England shirt now.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

I think Stewart Downing could be a good option to Manchester United, but having Quinton Fortune they would be able to utilize him more, I think the south african player could be in the initial team.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

The thing about Fortune is that he can also play in left back or as a holding midfielder.
