Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

what about Vinvent kompany from Anderlecht but for me Ayala would easily replace Rio!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

I also think Ayala is great. Wouldn't want Rio to leave though.

we've been looking at Kompany for awhile, Ayala is too old, as I've said a million times we have his International successor anyway who is better than any other 1st team centre back we have...

then we have Pique and the young scottish lad in reserves, who are both gonna be class defenders...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

Kompany!

QUALITY!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

We have to remember that Rio is fairly young and can last us a lot longer than what people expect.
Ayala is old so we cant have him.
I havent personally seen Kompany play but hear that he's all hype.
In the perfect world, I'd ask for John Terry (He is a Man Utd fan after all) but we obviously cant have him either.
The problem here is that we need someone that is as old as Rio at the most cuz his age is just right. AND he also has to be a better player than him cuz even if he's equally good, we might as well stick with Rio.
You also have to understand that an important characteristic for a center half is communication and you cant expect any new player (especially foreigners) to adjust to such an important role. This is obviously why Heinze plays at left back right now.
Its already been proven that without Rio, we're a different team. So unless the replacement is special, its not worth it.
And how many young and "special" defenders are out there that are available?

I think ATM, we need to focus on the midfield and getting a keeper. We already have Brown, O'Shea, Pique and Spector waiting to make it into the first team.

we would have had terry had roman not bought the club, both he and his old man are lifelong United fans...

Rio is good but he's not as good as he thinks he is, the reason Henize is played at LB is because Fergie had promised Silvstre that he would get a shot at playing CB after playing LB for so long when it wasnt his natural position, the same will happen to Gabby...

But your right on needing a defensive MF as well as an OMF/winger and a new keeper is a must...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

If anyone was to be United's DM, I think Gattuso is the KEY, but it'll never happen ;). I just cant picture Essien fitting in or De Rossi fitting in, theyre not the physical "search and desetroy" types.

The pressure of filling into Keane's role is tough, and finding someone with the same characteristics is tough. Arsenal have Vieira and United have Keane.

Rooney is becoming our best player, he is the only genuine world class player we have...
whoa, isnt Heinze a left back? Rio not world class??!?!!?? Did you get some mexican swag this week vann?

I know where your coming from, but trust me Vieira isnt fit to lace keano's boots...

Essien would have to play as a MF combo whereas in his day keano ran it on his own, gattuso would be good but from what ive seen he isnt a good a passer as keano, but like I said ive not seen enough to say for defo.

Flectcher has been excellent in patches this year and even added a couple of goals to his game but other than him im not convinced we've got the back up in squad. The nigerian lad that chelsea have kidnapped (lol) would have been a good player for the squad but thats all up in the air now...

We will find a good replacement as we have done for all the legends over the years and it may be a suprise to some where it comes from...

nah Heinze natural position is a CB, thats where he plays for Argentina, who he won a gold medal with and who are storming thru there WC qualifiers..

and you cant be a world class center half if you cant win headers against people 6 inches shorter than you....

but i have got some good ish at the moment, that turtle stuff, cheap too!!

holla at ya boy!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

You cant blame Fletcher for not being as consistant cuz if you think about it, how many games has he played this season. And can anyone even remember a bad game from Fletch?

I think Milanista is right about Gattuso. Gattuso is VERY physical and is almost like a younger version of Keane when it comes to the aggression part of the game. Of course you cant have someone with ALL of Keano's characteristics cuz thats what makes Keane such a great player.

About the goalkeeper situation, I was thinking the best idea would be to give Carroll a new contract cuz lets be honest, at times he does the job very well.
But what I'm suggesting is that we sign a new keeper, sell Ricardo, and then loan Tim Howard to another team (West Brom would be nice with Robbo and with also Richardson being there).
So then we're left with a new (hopefully a good) keeper that also has competition from Carroll so he doesnt get lazy plus we'll have Howard on loan cuz IMO, he just lacks the experience.
Then in a year or 2, We get Howard back and get rid of Carrol.
Is that a good idea?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

Looking at the attention this thread gets someone would think we're the champions.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

Man Utd are known for having one of the best set of supporters. Thats why.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

I'm in support of getting de Rossi, although it may be impossible.

oh, didnt know he played CB over samuel and ayala thats pretty impressive

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

Although Heinze played left midfield when first arrived to France, then he played left back and eventually CB.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

He was never picked over Samuel and Ayala csaunders, what makes you think that?

Thats cuz Argentina play 3 defenders with no wing backs. Heinze just plays on the left of the back 3.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

Unforetunately I was able to watch their Olympic run, but during Copa America they played with 4 at back and he was CB.

Wasnt that due to thr youth inclusion as in there WCQ they play 3 at the back

Maybe when Keane was in his prime then yes he was the better player. He's 33 now and getting past it. Paddy is 28 and in his prime now. There is no question who has had the better season, just look at the stats. They were in the paper on Saturday. Vieira's scored 6 goals to Keane's 1. Paddy's made more tackles and less fouls and got less yellow cards.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Rio to Barca??

Ask yourself a simple question. Who would you rather get into a fight with?
I mean, you definately dont want to bump into Keane on the streets especially if he's walking his dog.
But with Vieira, all you have to do is kick him in the shins and before you even make contact, he'll be on the floor crying like a girl.

Well seeing as I am a short little bugger, then definately Keane, I could take him... Vieira is too tall, his reach would kill me!

Lets just agree to disagree, maybe a few years ago I would have wanted Keane in my team more, now though its no contest. Keane is 34 next year and past it.

I'm not sure if you're aware of the current phenomenon in football but it's called play acting. I would love to think that you could punch a footballer and they end up flat on the floor sparko but it's never really going to happen is it!

I thought it was just C Ronaldo and Ferdinand that cry like girls!

He plays a different role now a bit like Makelele so he aint past it as he showed on Saturday.

May not run up and down the pitch like Vieira but we would miss Keane more.

Felt sorry for Rio as he was banned for last years so you can understeand him crying and they aint the only footballers to of cried.
