Its Soton in the FA cup this weekend.Should be a breezer for us.

I seriously doubt that it'll be that easy, we have an enviable record against you mancs at home.

We beat you last season in the league at our place. And we often get a result, typical manc.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It wont be easy, Harry has got southampton playing with confidence and some good football,if anything it will be an exciting match especially after United coming back off a defeat

Its not wrong to have full confidence in my team.I seriously think we will overcome you lot without taking away anything from your quote that is.Fear our euro-exit backlash, its bound to happen,The FA Cup is the only realistic shot at a silverware this season and I cant see us throwing it away.C'mon United..

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Gota agree with Jim. Southampton have always been one of our bogey teams. Just hope Rio doesnt let Crouch win too many headers.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Did I say it was a breeze? We could have scored a couple more thru Rooney.Tim Howard was hardly tested and we could afford to rest Heinze,Keano and Ronaldo after the hour mark.Off to the semis now and I hope we meet Arse-wipes again and then maybe Newcastle in the finals.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Not a surprise Rooneys playing alot better just behind Ruud. Just hope Fergie doesnt go and stick him on the wing again.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

paul smith was great in a couple of those saves, those shots from rooney really stung his hands, but it was unfortunate we couldn't capitalize on those chances. 4-0, comfortable, and yea we even had a chance to rest the players who needed it most. bring on the arse

Ha ha ha ha. We will see you at the end of the season when we send camel face and you lot down.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Easy win against Southampton, they were a joke to be fair. Looks like were just going to have to settle for the double this season. ;) :ele:

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Was frustrating to see United perform so well against Southampton and just days before not put up a fight at all against Milan. Theres obviously a big quality difference between Milan and Soton but we have to take the same approach against the big sides.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

i agree pk9...it's too difficult to compare soton and milan....total different quality, and different matches...the caliber of CL and FA Cup is different already (not saying that FA Cup is not important or anything, but still not in that level of CL)...now, if Man Utd posted a 4-0 or something against Arsenal or Newcastle in Semi-Final...then, MAYBE some talks related to Milan can occur

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If milan played southampton they wouldnt do any better than 4 nil.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Notice how Ruud had two assists last game but no goals.
Of course, it's only a matter of time until he starts scoring, especially if the team keep up their good form.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

great pass that to ronaldo, good vision

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Emres gona be available this summer. I reckon hes just the sort of player we need.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Michael Essien has admitted to Sky Sports News that he would love to play for Manchester United.
The Lyon powerhouse has been attracting admiring glances from most of Europe's top clubs and helped the French champions storm into the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League when thrashing Werder Bremen over two legs.
Essien, who had a trial with United as a youngster, is being forwarded as a possible long-term replacement for Red Devils skipper Roy Keane.
"I know that [the press reports regarding interest from Premiership clubs], " he told Sky Sports News.
"But, for me, I don't think about that because I have left everything for my manager [agent].
"So I don't think about it and just concentrate on my football.
"I like Manchester. I know most of their players and like them, and would like to play one day in the Premier League.
"I'll be happy to play for Manchester but, at the moment, I'm in Lyon and I have to concentrate on that.
"I like Old Trafford because it's one of the nicest stadiums in Europe and, foremost, I like the coach [Sir Alex Ferguson] very well."

If that isn't an invitation, I don't know what is.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Looks very dodgy to be honest.

"i like the coach very well"

Hes also being chased by Juve at the moment, who might have a slight advantage due to their French players -- Trez, Thuram, Kapo etc.

Arsenal might also have a good chance knowing that theyre a former Ligue 1 team.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I see what you mean. But I got this story from Skysports.com.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Ive just seen Essien speaking on Sky Sports News

How good his he though ? Ive only seen bits of him, when United played Lyon and a bit of him against Werder Bremen last week

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Never heard off him either, he will have to be something to take over keano. Wasn't Djemba-Djemba suppose to be a future replacement for keane? That worked out well.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Essien looks like the real deal, from what i've seen of him he could be the one available player to finally take over from Keano. We'd all like Stevie G to come to us but that's NEVER gonna happen.Essien's only 22 and is a real midfield dynamo, he gets up and down the pitch like Roy used to do, he has a great touch, tackle and can make and score goals as well. He seems to be favouring us at the minute so we'd be stupid to miss out on him.

He's class, good technique, saw him at OT when we beat Lyon, the whole team played extremely well (even though they lost).

I'd be made up if we get him, exactly what we need at the mo!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He's been linked for a while with the club, but this is the first time I've heard him actually say something about moving to England.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Thought this was interesting:
A glance at the contenders for this season's Golden Shoe reveals many of the names you would expect to see competing for the title of Europe's top goalscorer.

Seasoned hotshot Thierry Henry leads the race with 22 goals, giving him a score of 44 points.

But the name in sixth place prompts a second look: Diego Forlan.

Surely not the same Diego Forlan who went 27 games before scoring for Manchester United and was something of a joke figure during his two-and-a-half seasons at Old Trafford?

Well, yes. Forlan is the second-highest scorer in the Spanish league this season and one of the main reasons why his unfashionable club, Villarreal, are fourth in La Liga.

The 25-year-old Uruguayan puts his transformation down to having had a run of games in the first team and enjoying the backing of his coach, Manuel Pellegrini.

"Footballers all over the world need to have confidence from the coach," he told BBC Sport.

"They need to have minutes on the pitch. If you are a substitute and only play for a couple of minutes, it's difficult to settle in.

"Every coach has his own players. Maybe I was not the player that Sir Alex (Ferguson) liked, which is fair enough. He can choose - that's why he's the manager.

"But here I am getting a lot of time on the pitch and I know the coach has faith in me."

Forlan joined United from Argentine side Independiente for £7.5m in January 2002.

Forlan scored 17 goals for United
"If you come from a long distance and everything is new and different, you are going to struggle," he said.

"But I was very happy because I was at a great club with a great manager. I was only 22 and I was learning.

"Yet the years went past and still I was not getting a chance. I was training well, then come the Saturday or Sunday I wasn't in the team.

"I would come on and have a chance and score and then I would find myself on the bench.

"Sometimes I was not even on the bench - I could see I was losing support."

Forlan says he knew his time was up when Ferguson signed Louis Saha from Fulham last January.

"I was not surprised they were willing to sell me because I could see things coming.

"Saha was signed and then I was not getting many minutes on the pitch.

"You need to play as the career of the football player is short - that's why I wanted to move on.

"You don't like seeing the games from the outside."

Despite his testing time at United, Forlan says he still holds the club and its manager in the highest regard.

"I was on very good terms with Sir Alex, even at the end. He was perfect - a nice person and a great manager.

"He understood my position and he let me go because he knew it was going to be difficult for me to play.

"And the fans were great. From the moment I arrived in Manchester they were supportive and I appreciated that.

Riquelme is a great player - he can do everything

Diego Forlan
"I spoke with everyone in the team - they were nice guys. I had a good relationship with Mikael Silvestre, Wes Brown, Rio Ferdinand, John O'Shea and Kleberson.

"I was really happy in England. Maybe the weather was not as I would have liked but I had friends and settled in."

Forlan is already Villarreal's leading scorer in a season in the top flight of Spanish football, with 17 goals.

He has been flourishing on the service of Argentine winger Riquelme.

"Riquelme is a great player, a great talent. He's a great passer and knows how to read and control the game.

"He can do everything - keep the ball, shoot and score goals. He really is a great player."
