Palace ban United's Cantona masks
Manchester United have been warned that any fans wearing Eric Cantona masks at Selhurst Park on Saturday will be ejected.

It is a decade since Cantona launched the infamous kung-fu kick at Crystal Palace fan Matthew Simmons that saw the Frenchman landed with an eight month suspension and threatened with a prison sentence.

A section of the Red Devils support have designated Saturday's encounter with Palace as 'Cantona day' and threatened to wear the masks in honour of their hero.

However, in a statement, Palace have confirmed that: 'Any supporter visiting Selhurst Park on Saturday will not gain admission to the stadium or will be ejected from the ground if they are in possession of any kind of face mask.'

HAHA, what i would do to see these masks :D

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Its getting cheesy but heres another story about Keano's replacement.

Fergie is so Keane on Essien
Manchester United will bid for £10m-rated Michael Essien as Roy Keane's long-term replacement in the summer. Keane is 34 in August and has made it clear he may quit football after one final campaign. Essien definitely fits the bill, which is why United have already made their intentions clear to his agent Fabien Piveteau that they will make a bid in June. Piviteau said: "I know Juventus are attracted to him. However, while I have not had direct contact, that is the case with people from Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona."
Danny Fullbrook, Daily Star

A quote taken from a fan at manutd.com...

"Roy has two seasons left at the most. Essien is already being scouted by Arsenal and Real Madrid - in two seasons he'll be hot property. Bring him in now and let him work under Keano. He should blossom and then that is the replacement for Keane saga over with."

Quite true actually.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

he was a dangerous threat against us, wouldn't mind taking him in\

How would he replace Keane if hes an AM????

I think he is an all-round central midfielder. Good at tackling and good at passing (he damn well better be good at passing). People forget that Keano wasn't always a defensive midfielder. He was an all-round central midfielder too, but had to take more of a defensive role with his age.

One of keane's main qualities was his short-passing. I think he is (still) one of the best short-passers in world football (with Xavi and Fabregas running him close). His "replacement", whoever that may be, is gonna have to be good at short-passing too.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

been looking through the opta stats on sky sports and it says keaney has the highest percentage of completed passes in the premier league.

anyway, what gazz said is completely true, back in keano's golden days, he was an all-rounded central midfielder.

i wouldnt be surprised if essien also turned out to be a DM by the time he gets to 33-34 like keaney

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Didnt Keano used to do the job for us at RMF? Thats right...he wasnt actually built for the defensive role,he was told he was too small sized to play in the centre.Anyways,Kleberson is back training with the first team.Looks like he is staying after all,at least until the summer.Hope he has more luck to finally kickstart his United career. One thing for sure,he has the ability and class to succeed.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The problem with replacements is that all the fans want them all to make an instant impact. None of our current players became great overnight. We need to give them time.
Theres a part of me that believes Miller, Kleberson and Howard will have a great future if they stay here.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Kleberson and Howard maybe. Dont know about miller though he looks a bit shitt.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

he has been called the next keano... so i don't know about that statement, i would switch up kleber with miller with what you said sheep

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Wow, its the 1st week in March and no-ones told me the seasons finished....

Drogba:

"We have won the title. This season we are the best. Everybody knows we are now six points in front of United but we have one game in hand so we will do our best to keep the nine points and keep the distance. Okay, Manchester United are playing well and there is still Arsenal of course. But I think we are the best team. They are clutching at straws. United wanted us to lose and hit a run of bad form."If I was in their shoes I would want us to lose every game and for other teams to make us struggle. The less we struggle, the worse it is for them."

So there you have it folks, after winning their 1st major (lol) trophy in five years they have now won the title, how great is that, I bet everyone wants to play for chelski rent boys if they can decide of the bat, that they've won a title before its mathmatically possible. With that sort of power it makes you wonder why they have waited 50+ years to be in contention.....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Exactly, it just shows that they haven't been in this position before. Only a fool would come out and say shit like that. Their current success is going to their heads, all they have won so far is the Carling Cup ffs!! Same old Chelsea, no class.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

To be fair aswell, last season I dont remember any Arsenal member of staff running there mouth off like Drogba has done

But maybe I am wrong, but I cant think of any of the top of my head

MOREIRA IS NO.1 PICK FOR FERGIE

By Alan Nixon

MANCHESTER United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has put Portuguese keeper Jose Felipe Moreira at the top of his hit list.

Ferguson sent brother Martin - United's chief European scout - to watch the Benfica star shut out Porto as he seeks a long-term solution to his problem position.

United have been checking on the 22-year-old for a few weeks, also sending a delegation to Benfica's recent game with Sporting Lisbon.

Moreira has plenty of experience for someone of his age and has played in European competition as well as being Portugal's current second choice.

Ferguson wants a new keeper at a reasonable price in the wake of Tim Howard and Roy Carroll's poor form.

United do not want to splash out a big fee on the likes of Newcastle's Shay Given, valued at £12million, or even Manchester City's David James.

Moreira would be priced at around £2.5m by Benfica - and that brings him within Ferguson's range. United have little cash to spare this summer after investing so heavily on the likes of Wayne Rooney.

United could lose Carroll for nothing as he is out of contract in the summer and undecided on his future. Howard may yet overcome his problems, but the club will probably still need a new man.

Moreira is rated as the best young keeper in Portugal and Ferguson's assistant Carlos Queiroz knows him well. He was named in his country's Euro 2004 squad and is expected to establish himself in the side soon.
~

Oh no Moreira will go for United! :(
For me is the best Benfica goal-keeper with Michel Preud'homme, United's will buy a excellent goal-keeper but 2.5£m is too short for a excellent GK.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Drogrba is a right prick what would he know about english football? Chelsea are looking poor atm and can still easily slip up.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

fucking idiots, dont deserve to win a league if u can tbeat 10 man palace, shocking decisions to rest players, how is it a rest if u bring em on with 25 mins to go, start them get a goal and take them of fergie u fucking bastard

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Chris, chill man! We are unbeaten in the league in 16 matches - we threw everything at Palace. You obviously didnt watch the match.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

i feel the exact same way. fergie needs to stop underestimating the lower seeded opponents. the commentators were right, if the stronger team gets nothing out of the first half because they were fielding mediocre players and couldn't generate any momentum (nvm not scoring a goal) there's no way they are going to score a goal late on.

imo, giggsy and ruud were poorer than usual and the last thing i've got to say about this match is that ronaldo, scholesy and rooney shouldve been on earlier. if not that at least scholesy should have started ahead of fortune, then subbing on ronaldo and rooney at around the time they came in.

gutted, a horrible result, we must be better against milan

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The problem is that Fergie chops and changes too much. I remember when we won the treble, we had nearly the same team playing every week in nearly every competition. We might have got better in the 2nd half but we were completely dire in the 1st.

Milan's Gattuso eyes Man United move

AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso admits he would relish the chance to join Champions League rivals Manchester United.

Gennaro Gattuso: 'Dream move' (AdamDavy/Empics)

The former Rangers player, 26, will line up against United on Tuesday night at Old Trafford.

He admits that he would welcome the chance to make Manchester home, but Gattuso concedes that Milan might put up a fight to keep him.

'My dream is to play for Manchester United in England,' Gattuso told the Mail on Sunday.

'I know it is a bit soon to talk about because we have this big game coming up against United, but I have always been fascinated by them. I would love to have a new experience, even in the next year or two.

'I would choose Manchester United ahead of Chelsea because the stadium has a very special atmosphere and the club is world famous, like Milan.'

However Gattuso is not expecting any move to be imminent.

'When a club has been good to you, as Milan have been to me, and they say you are not for sale, it is difficult to know what you can do,' Gattuso said.

'I have always been happy at Milan and I still am. But I think you need a new stimulus in your career. It is a question of the circumstances being right.

'I am sure Sir Alex knows all about me, because last year his assistant was Walter Smith, who had faith in me when I was young at Rangers.'

Were the unlikely to happen and a deal go through, Gattuso would be expected to fill the role as Roy Keane's long-term replacement, and ahead of this week's trip to England, the Italian has hailed the Republic of Ireland international as a player comparable to Paolo Maldini.

'I respect Keane because he has a similar game to mine and he is full of spirit,' said Gattuso.

'Above all, I like the way he leads. He has the stature at United that our own captain, Paolo Maldini, has at Milan.'

This is who we NEED. Com on fergie this is the answer to all Uniteds problems.this guy has heart and he is scottish. Man if Fergie doesnt go for this guy, then I give up. What do you guys think?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Apparently on of the board members let slip this afternoon that under the table talks were taking place with Stefan Klos, Watch this space

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

gattuso would be a good addition to the team. milan supporters are always singing their praise about gattuso's heart and his passion for the sport. he's a fan favourite, which may mean he ll be leaving with a heavy heart

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yes but this is quotes. Its not a rumour or a report, quotes cant be wrong.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

About the Gattuso story, half truths cant be found almost everywhere on the net on football websites but this one is.It must be authentic then.Reno definitely meant what he said on that quote of his.He definitely has the right mentality and the capability to don our jersey and replace Keano in the team. The captaincy can then be passed down to someone like Van Nistelrooy or Ferdinand but I prefer the latter though.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Maybe when we beat Milan tomorrow, we'll give him a another reason to join us. ;)

He really does look like the right guy to replace Keano but the problem (which was the same for Cantona) is that you can't find a replacement for his influence off the pitch. Keano is our captain and a great motivator and those skills can’t be replaced easily.

But enough about this. What are your thoughts on the formation that will be used tomorrow? Are we gonna stick with the 4-3-3 or go with the 4-4-2?

So far, Rooney's best performances have come from when he plays just behind the stiker and he obviously won't do that in a 4-3-3. And if we play Ruud, Rooney, Ronaldo and Giggs in a 4-3-3, Giggs will be pushed into the centre. So are we finally go see the 4-4-2?

Oh and Gary and Smith are out so expect Phil Neville or Wes Brown in right back.
