Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

On second thought, just read article on BBC where Blues coach Clarke said chelsea just need a draw, so maybe away goals are a factor...anyone know for sure?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We could do with some of your butchery tonight on Chelsea. Come on, kick the crap out of them.*

*Thats a joke so don't get stressed!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

i think you may well be right on this beachryan

here's what steve clarke said

"We only need a score draw so there is a bit of an advantage to us, but it is only a slight advantage.''

not good for us, i think its gonna be 1-1 tonite :(

nah mate, theres no away goals in this comp, if its 1-1 its goes to extra time then pens.
To clear things up, this is how it works. For the first 90 minutes, theres no away goals. But if it goes into extra time, then away goals count. So if its 1-1 after 90 mins, we must score and win in extra time cuz Chelsea will get the win on away goals AFTER extra time finishes. If it stays 0-0 for the whole game including extra time, then it goes to penalties.
D'ya geddit?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

For once theres a decent piece in the Manchester Evening News.

Its about United supporters still singing Cantona's name, which puzzles some outsiders.

Since this week is the aniversary of him flying thru the air and giving it to "that palace fan" its pretty relevant:

'Opposing fans are often puzzled as to why United fans still chant Cantona's name, nearly eight years after he retired. What they don't realise is that Cantona has become more than the footballing genius who transformed a good team into a great one and inspired a new generation of young United players.

He came to embody everything that is great, and a few things that are suspect, about Manchester United.

Independent to the point of rebellion, outspoken, passionate, artistic, impulsive. If Roy Keane was the heart of United in the nineties, Cantona was undoubtedly the club's soul. He didn't care for the global commercialisation of the club, for public limited companies, image rights and branding.

His United was more about the spirit of Munich, the legacy of Law, Best and Charlton and the tradition of Busby - his United was the fans' United, and he is adored by many supporters for that reason as much as for the beauty of the football he played.

Cantona said: "I value truth, honesty, respect for one another, sincerity, compassion, and understanding. These qualities are found at Manchester United."

The Reds almost lost him in 1995, on the night of January 25, during a league game against Palace at Selhurst Park.

Cantona had never been afraid of standing up for himself. So, after reacting to the physical treatment meted out by Palace players and shown a red card for retaliating on Richard Shaw, his blood was already up.

Cantona brought a new ethos to the United training ground, and he brought a passion and a style to United's play.

More than that, he re-affirmed the faith among United fans that there was still a pulse to the club, that it had not become merely a money-making institution.

Cantona was always going to be a United legend from the day he joined the club.

And if he had not launched his own "Kick Racism Out of Football" campaign that night ten years ago, he would still be dear to the hearts of fans.

But that infamous night, and the dramatic chain of events that followed, steeped him in United's tradition of drama and delight.

The sense of injustice amongst United's players and staff lingers on - there is still a feeling that everything the team achieves is in spite of the FA, not helped when Wayne Rooney is banned for three games for raising his hands, while Chelsea's Didier Drogba escapes with a yellow card.

United have always been about tragedy and triumph, about bouncing back from adversity, and about sheer showbiz - from the Munich air crash to the 1968 European Cup win, from George Best's genius to his champagne celebrity.

Cantona had the lot, and the flying leap at Selhurst Park simply enhanced the legend.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

ARGH!...this team is a fu*king joke! it's like they don't want to win! What the FOOk happened in that Duff goal... shittie defense... there were two chelsea players on the far post to take the ball but it went in anyway...

Sir Turd Ferguson must do something about this... kick some boots in faces or sumthin...!

i know i am usin ... to much but it's a fetish...

...
gudiagu...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Mate, stop talking shit - we controlled most of the game! Chelsea are lethal at the moment, and hats off to `em!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Great match, thought we deserved some extra time to sort it out, but you know what, Chelsea really are that good. Cech played incredibly, he really was the only difference for me. Howard, again a bunch of good saves only to flub the one that ends up mattering. I don't care what you want you to say about clearing headers, if the ball drops into your far post from that far out, Goalie should have been out there to catch it. Maybe its his low confidence, I don't know, but we need a Cech of our own if we want to compete with Chelsea. Again, wonderful to watch, hopefully the Arsenal one will be as good!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah, it was a good game. Maybe we would have won if Makelele would've been sent off and Fortune got the penalty...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Would rather have played you lot in the final. Sign of the times??

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

What a great second half for the neutral! I felt that you were unlucky to lose as you controlled the game during the second half. Once you equalised I felt there would be one winner, yourselves. That was until Chelsea got lucky. Fergie refused to blame Howard but I think he has got to come out and claim the ball.

I thought Makelele was lucky he didn't connect with his kick (can't remember who it was on) otherwise he would have been off. The penalty incident was borderline, but on another night it may well have been given.

So overall you boys can count yourselves a little unlucky.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It's C. Ronaldo. Btw, I dont like Fortune, this guy comes out is not for playing football.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The difference between Chelski and ourselves is a goalkeeping mistake.Thats it.We controlled major parts of the game and they scored with one clinical strike and a fluke goal.I'm not pissed off or anything, hats off to Chelski for their victory by all means. We tried,we really did,I am sure yall saw Giggs's goal...It made me have goosebumps while running in slow-mo,pure artistry.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

great game last nite, thought we had it in the bag, but a silly mistake cost us, shit happens.

wasnt in my usual seat but we gave it the chelsea rent boys!!

the new chelsea songs are decent, lets get the rest of the country on it..

"you sold your house to the russians, house to the russians, you sold house to the russians"

"your not chelsea anymore, your not chelsea anymore"

"your just a small town in russia"

"where we're you when you were shit!"

and the old favourite "have you ever seen chelsea win the league"

Even though it was a sickner last nite (partially down to wanting a day out in cardiff V the mickeys) it should put us in good stead for when we play them at OT in the league.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

i hear eveyrone bitching about howard(of course im gonna to my boys defense) but the marking on both chelsea goals, WAS FUCKING HORRIBLE!!! Keano let lampard fucking waltz right into the penalty area and gave him all the time in the world to put that goal in, and where was howards support on the one he should have come out on, there were three chelsea players waiting to tap it in.... the mistake howard made was one most inexpereinced keepers make, from what we saw of howard on his other game saving saves(lampards shot from outside the box, and the brilliant robben kick save) he with time will be a very good keeper. Everyone needs to remember he might be 25 in real life but in football experience i would say he is more like 18...

HA HA

Like I said earlier, I thought you were unlucky, it was a freak goal. You bossed the 2nd half but they always looked dangerous on the break. It was a good game to watch for the neutral.

You could clearly hear the "your not Chelsea anymore" chant, v.funny. :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

DAMN, how come my i cant hear these chants, i never pick up what there singing, must be the english accents :)

im not having it that it was timmy's fault, the defense was to blame...

but its not looking good for timmy, I agree that he's young in footballing terms but I think that the pressure is too much and this has a knock on effect on his illness (not sure if its classed as an ilness by the way).

He'll probley leave in the summer although I think he should be given a few years..

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Chelsea have really got their moneys worth with Cech. A superb keeper.

well if he isnt given another year, then sir alex is a fool, sorry he just shows too much potential to let one bad year ruin it, for crying out loud he was the goalie of the year last year in the prem!!!!!! it is alot of pressure... and he is a long way from new jersey... one day he will be fantastic...

ya preaching to the converted mate, I think he's got great potential.

Sometimes though playing for us and being under the constant spotlight/pressure is to much and ability itself isnt enough....

but i reckon another year as number two will do him good and we'll see the best of him 2006/2007.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah man...after reviewing the goal,I'd say its the defence's mistake, our centrebacks should be heading out those type of balls coming into the goal, thats our primary defense, the goalie should be the last man standing, hes the secondary defense.I'm pretty sure Pete Schmeichel didnt became a United legend in a season or two, lets give T.Ho until the end of next season to prove himself....if he cant,Sir Alex can then send his ass back to New Jersey...hahaha...

Yeah. I was watching those FA Cup classics shows and it showed the game were we got beat on penaltys by the Saints. During normal time Schmeichel made a huge error to make it 2-0 Southampton. If it happened in today's footballing climate Schmeichel would have been laughed off the pitch and sold the next day.
