Manchester United Thread

Dzeko-The villain today , hero tomorrow comes to mind. Im starting to believe why Arsene rather buy attacking then defenders. It`s the one who scores the most wins. Stan Collymore been saying for a while that defending in the EPL is the most rubbish it`s ever been.

I've been watching Vidic/Rio they too lost the art of defending for their respected clubs.Mutd were spot on, releasing them.

chatting to my blue pal last night post game, he cant put his finger on whats going wrong, wrong in the sense of its mcfc second title defense and they dont seem up for it, I feel with the investment and resources at the clubs disposal they should be dominating, any United supporter knows its harder to keep it than it is to win it, Arsenal couldnt do it either so I dont think city should be walking it mind.

We were a laughing stock last season, at this stage we were 8 points off 1st in The Prem, had 9 points in the champs league, still in the league cup...

compared to city's season so far........

I'm of the opinion that the current mcfc team is at the end of its cycle, still few quality players in there, of course, but not much in terms of young players or comp for the likes of Vinne, Yaya, Nasri and Hart for example. could be FFP cos there was so many top players available this summer and city didnt go for any of them. You know your stuff Godotelli, im interested on your thoughts.

I don't think Utd were a laughing stock yet tbf. Also, we started off worse last year, at least in the league. Not too bothered personally about the CC exit.

Imo, the issues are:
1. Complacency in some games
2. Manager making too many changes in defensive areas
3. Manager playing Fernando out of position
4. Nasri injury
5. Yaya's form/mindset
6. Dzeko returning to his normal shit form - he's not good enough for anything other than an impact sub imo. Only people who don't watch him regularly disagree with me.
7. Jovetic injury and no Negredo meaning we've been too reliant upon Aguero
8. Mangala's tough start.

Mangala will need time to get used to the pace of the prem. He was immense against Chelsea - a more european side - but has found the more hustle and bustle of teams like Hull and WHU difficult.

On the transfer front, I think the signings this summer were good. Mangala aside, however, they were all squad players. If you don't count Negredo (who is a starter over Dzeko imo), we have only made one 1st 11 signing in Fernandinho since we brought in Aguero -Kun being the last 'marque' signing also.
FFP will definitely have had an impact. I think we'd have gone in for/signed one of Fabregas, Di Maria, Falcao, Sanchez if not for FFP.
I expect from now on we'll be looking at signing 1 or 2 big players a year+. We don't need any more squad players. Talk of Reus, Barkley, Pogba

Anyway, a derby is the perfect game to restart our season. If we are as complacent against Utd as we have been lately then I will start to worry.

Quality posting!

You make valid points, way too early, I think chelsea running away with it (so far) has put a magnifying glass on city.

Always look forward to The Derby, even if it is now tinged with dread. We got trounced at Eastlands last season but picked up three points the season before, and we have a better team now in some aspects.

Tem News:

mufc- rooney was never injured according to Louis (My Philosphy) Van Gaal, tight shoes maybe but not injured, Falcao still out.

mcfc Silva out for three weeks Yaya is fit.

That yellow card Smalling gets, how stupid can you be and that as a defender who often has to make fouls...

Edit: just like i said...stupid, stupid, stupid...Van Gaal will be furious.

Until now City are rather poor.

What a great tackle by Rojo, between Touré's legs. Very risky but spot on.

What about the Fellaini-Aguëro thing ?

IMO, in nowadays football that is never a penalty.
In an ideal world there is zero tolerance for fouls in the 16, and then it is a penalty.
But all things considered, in the spirit of nowadays game this is not a penalty.

@ Beach, what about a replay in this particular case. I'm pretty sure this will never be solved by a replay. Fans of both clubs will claim that their team should get a penalty (or that it was never a penalty), and both will have arguments to claim they are right.

Smalling can leave now. Such an idiot. Like the blank from lvg and giggs.

Thought second was definitely a pen. Shocked OOliverdidnt give either, but we're going to get hammered now. Also imagine if Rooney had put his head to a ref. Front page news.

Yeah Hart should've seen a card for that. City can't complain no cards were given for the fouls against Januzaj either. Don't agree with the Rojo thing. Fellaini's thing was more of a penalty if anything.

Rojo clearly had the ball (and not the balls) and on top of that Touré was the one searching contact...

I feel for MC Nair, coming in that this moment...

Luke Shaw is having a good match.

Fellaini's mum agrees with me that her son is playing constantly out of position.

I originally wrote here that Rooney has a very bad match, since then he is good of course...

Carrick on Aguëro, that was a penalty.

Lovely. The only first choice defender out there now is an 18 year old after Rojo s injury. Now 19 year old McNair on with non back Valencia in there as well.

Amazing fighting spirit from the team. You d think City was the one playing with ten men for a large part of the second half. Fellaini was fairly impressive again.. Shaw our motm imho and why the f did Di Maria take nearly every free kick and corner?

De Gea deserves some clean sheets btw
.gutted for him. Some word class saves again.

Not a bad performance from United imo.
An amazing thing: my 11 year old son is the one taking corners at his team. He's doing it better than Di Maria (who had a bad day at the office).

Not particularly impressed by City, although it seems Touré is resurfacing.

Some poor subs from us didn't help (Nasri looks fat and Dzeko has no pace to keep Utd's backline honest) but Utd showed some desire at the end.
Thought we did alright in the middler hour. Just glad for the win after the last week or so. Forgot what it was llike to be nervous at the end of a derby :P

seems Touré is resurfacing.

Like a Kraken

We'll take'em \0/ !

Smalling fucked us over, City were unlucky not to get given a couple of penalties and we showed great fight to not only keep City from blowing us away but had them reeling at the end.

Strange season continues, no points but positive signs.

It's kind of funny what a fighting spirit and attractive play can do for fans to accept less results isn't it? Despite where we are at right now I'm still way more optimistic than I was this time last year.

Also..look at our back four today (if you can even call it that) - Moyesy had all our senior players to fall back on. The fact that Godo even acknowledges that he pretty much forgot what it was like to be nervy against us is a good sign indeed. Especially for playing with 10 men for over half the game.

It's a derby match regardless the form atm. A derby can't be looked at in any other way, but a derby match. ManCity hasn't hit form and playing erratic . While Mutd has been very inconsistent ,all this goes away in a derby . I hope I explain well.. I think Mutd are improving while everyone will rotate and fight for their spot.

A 4th official would literally need to be blind not to see Fellaini boot Aguero's foot out from under him

Having seen that again, I'm glad it wasn't a penalty. Talk about playing for it, instead of going to touch the ball with his foot, Aguero just randomly plants it looking for the contact.

More snide version of the leaving a trailing leg looking for contact. It's not a foul if the attacker initiates contact, and I think he did there personally.

But the 3rd one...

Anyway, no points do doesn't really matter. City looked terrified for the last 15 mins, that's all we can ask for really.

Look at the defense. Two 19 year olds, a winger and a 33 year old midfielder.

Did i ever write that Fellaini on Aguero wasn't a penalty ?
I just said that nowadays these aten't given anymore. In the spirit of today's game (and i don't agree with that spirit), the ref made a correct decision.
If you give this one, you'll see 5 penalties in every match. And i would do it, it would last a month at most and then there would be less fouls in the box. If you give this one, then you have to give penalty each and every time there is a corner kick.

What is strange, is the fact that people who said the charge on Hazard never was a penalty, are now adamant this is a clearcut penalty. The one on Hazard is a crystal clear one, this isn't an obvious one.

That makes no sense. Are you missing the clear kick to the achilles? Do you think people are talking about the forearm in the back?

Doesn't matter anyway, the poor refereeing didn't destroy the result this time. Just got to hope the title doesn't come down to goal difference tho because if the ref got the decisions right Utd fans could have ended up looking back at the 6-1 this morning with a sense of fondness

Beach will like this I'm sure
Apparently Utd's starting XI yesterday cost 100m more than City's and was the highest ever. :SNACK:

Rooney in midfield, Di Maria on the touch line and van persie isolated upfront. Can someone explain what sort of 'philosophy' is this?

Well, a win is a win. Didn't see the game but the words spoken about it suggest it was anything but a good performance.

We need our international players wrapped up in cotton wool and the injured ones rested for the international period.
