Manchester United Thread

Di Maria is a truly world class player! Incredible athlete and the type that would get into ANY team in the world and be an important part of it. Real Madrid are stupid to get rid of him and Carlo Ancelotti clearly wanted him to stay but it wasn't up to him. Now the man that won them the Champions League is gone.

Be aware that you'll also see the world's very best diver however! If you thought guys like Ronaldo, Robben or Drogba were bad, wait till you see this guy play every week! He dives more frequently than all of them and often 'sells' it pretty well too. Just like his great skills and speed, this is another thing he's truly mastered.

Yeah, I used to hate watching his diving two seasons ago, not sure if last season was better.

For those saying he's a central midfielder, don't think that's quite right. He can play at the top of a diamond or as the most attacking of a 3, but I'm not sure he's ever been used as a part of a midfield 2. Love if I'm wrong, but that's my impression.

That said, he's probably better there than Fletch, Cleverley, Anderson etc ;)

I've been thinking about the formation that we could utilise and still use our players the best way possible.
So I came up with the following, which tend to be similar to the way Liverpool played last season.

Players should be interchangeable.

---------------- De Gea ------------------
Rafael --- Smalling ---- Evans ---- Shaw
--------------- Carrick -------------------
------ Di Maria ------- Herrera ---------
---------------- Mata ---------------------
----- van Persie ---- Rooney -----------

-------------- Lindegaard -----------------
Valencia -- Jones --- Blackett ----- Rojo
---------------- Fletcher -------------------
------ Januzaj --------- Fellaini -----------
---------------- Kagawa -------------------
----- Hernandez ------ Welbeck ----------

Of course, we could include Young somewhere, and I would also like to see some of our younger players deployed in a few games - Lingard, Powell and Wilson.

No doubt. Di Maria is a fantastic offensive force and I envy united this gem. He was arguably the second best player in the RM squad and somehow he joined Manchester United... go figure...

Very nice player to have but for the money (whether 60m, 64m or 72m) and looking at the squad I'd have signed Benatia and Hummels
That'd give you a superb foundation to build from. You'd win more points with them than with the def you have + Di Maria, imv

Or Vidal and Benatia. Could have probably gotten both for that. Very odd prioritization. But big Ed gets to brag about it being a British transfer record. Only he would brag about that.

Tonight we have a proper League Cup side out there, magnificient:
--------------De Gea---------------
------Keane---Evans--Vermijl-------
---Janko----------------James------
----------Powell-Ando--------------
--------------Kagwawa--------------
-------Welbz----------Hernandez----

Mental. Love it. We could win 3-0, lose 3-0 or anything in between.

First of all even if our spending ended right now! we've done OK! 4 signed in very important areas and I think all would/should start in our best team.

think we might get 1 more and if were extremely lucky maybe one more big one.

In terms of line-up, its got to be 4-3-3/4-2-3-1.

----------RVP-------
-Di-Maria-Rooney-Mata-
-----Herrera-Carrick--
-Shaw-Rojo-Smalling-Rafael
--------De Gea------------

A CB and CM would be massive at additions but ones we shouldnt cry if we don't get, lots of quality in that side.

Holy shit just checked the score. LMAO.. wonder if Di Maria changed his mind yet

Pisspoor defending... Literally both strikers just stood in the channels between the centre backs and they watched them... I don't even.. and.. WHERE ART THOUGH FERGIE??!! (Not serious)

Don't think you could've gotten Vidal and Benatia for 70m tbh. Bayern just got Benatia for 30m, and I reckon United would need to pay extra like they did with Rojo, Shaw and Herrera to get him. Minimal fee for Vidal would also be 50m, but I don't think he'll leave.

I think you're right about bragging. United even tweeted the transfer fee and sort of gloated about the whole transfer record.

4-0 to MK Dons, wtf. Nice to see Afobe getting on the scoresheet, really thought he'd make it at Arsenal but injuries really didn't help his sake.

Didn't see the game but u d think if a team of Subs and u21s mixed with De Gea wouldn't at least lose by that much. Read Chicha sucked balls but now we ll get even less for him. Woody out! :)

Same Van Gaal, New system.. which won't work without Rafa and Shaw, that's my stance and I'm sticking to it.

Oh I agree. Having Evra around for one more season would've been great in retrospect.
Unfortunately we don't have the team to switch to 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 on the fly like the Dutch were able to during the WC.

What is somewhat, erm, comforting? - is that all but 1 of the goals we've conceded have come from absolute brainfarts by individual players (special kudos to Evans for 2 tonight). Making me think they're just confused and lacking confidence, rather than us being particularly hammered.

That's all I've got though. We didn't score against MK Dons. With Hernandez, Welbeck and (briefly) Kagawa all on the pitch.

Wonder if hypnosis to talk some confidence into the players would be illegal. Only problem is that the crowds tend to clap at some pt so that effect would only last a few minutes.
