Manchester United Thread

Moyes may as well start throwing up crazy experimental lineups and treat the rest of this season as an early pre season for the next. Even if we manage to pummel Olympiacos into the ground tomorrow I'm not too concerned about gaining anything from this season. The signs are pretty damn clear now id say. No Europa league please .

Surely he has though? Won the league. Won the domestic cups. Got to CL final.

What else can he achieve there? He's not going to overtake Bayern as they just buy his best player each season. He's also 23 points behind them (!!!!)

I think he's ready for a new challenge. ;)
Well he took Mainz to the Bundesliga for the first time and stuck with them even though they were relegated for a season, so I don't see him as the sort of manager who jumps ships when something goes wrong.

I'd love it if we got him, since he seems like a team builder in the blood of a Ferguson or a Wenger but we'll probably have to wait a couple of seasons unless we really, really pull out all the stops to bring him here.

Would be worried if you got him, for this exact reason. I couldn't name most players on Dortmund off the top of my head, but they play so well together. I don't get the sense that there are any "me" type players on the team, someone worried about personal statistics rather than the team.

Would still love to see him in the PL though, just because he's such a good manager/character.

He's shown an incredible ability to make a team more than its collective parts, develop unheard of talent and even replace key players without missing a beat.

De Gea; Rafael, Jones, Ferdinand, Evra; Valencia, Carrick, Giggs, Welbeck; Rooney, van Persie.

What the fuck. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. He never learns from his mistakes, does he...

Olympiakos are definitely at it already. Every foul is a minute stop in play, any contact is a foul.

Also, there have been like 5 fouls and the ref has dished 3 yellows in the first 10 minutes...

Dominguez is cleary their main player and I doubt Carrick/Giggs have the mobility to keep him quiet.

Think you'll win but they look a nippy little team quite capable of scoring 1 or 2

Friday I assume.

Great result. People will mock us due to being up against Olympiakos, but very, very few teams have ever come back from a 2-0 deficit in the first leg of CL matches.

We weren't great, but obviously got the job done.

De Gea is an absolute star. His double save was the best moment of the match.

Man United surprised me! I totally wasn't expecting a win! Today players were fighters! And, friends, de Gea is getting an amazing goal keeper. And his getting better and better every game i watch!

Only caught the 2nd half live but saw the replay of that save and glad I missed it. Would've shit my pants.
As great as he is though, I'd really like to stop having to rely on him to bail out our defense so often.

P. S. Rio yelling at that Greek prick was priceless

Can't see anything other than a big defeat in the next round unless you draw Chelsea. Best chance outside that may be Dortmund.

But the win should give you a boost for West Ham and the derby

To be honest we weren't even that great today. 3-0 probably flattered us.

WHU have our number too - the hoofball to Caroll and Nolan against our weak ass defenders (Sturridge dive = unreviewable second yellow for vida).

Could see us losing both.

Wouldn't mind Dortmund, if only to flirt with Klopp.

Also, this is amazing. It has the ages of the other United players when Ryan Giggs made his European debut:

His longevity is ridiculous.

3 of the back 4 weren't even 1 yet. Cripes I'm old.

OOPS !

And now ? Your comment.
Despite Moyes or what else ?
In the end the manager/coach matters less than one would think.

Beat me to it Gerd.

Congrats to Man United.
They weren't great but did more than enough.
Giggs was immense. Wellbeck did great and even Rio looked neat.

West Ham will be a much tougher task though.

Was going to say exactly the same :P
Don't you dare say you (and other United fans) weren't as horrified as I was at the sight of the starting 11 before the game! :D

Yep, I'll have to admit I was wrong about last night.

The part in bold I don't agree with though. The team needed the proper motivation to be able to do that last night and it seems Moyes had gone out of his way to do it. Job well done.

We played very well, up until we scored the third, that's when we started to push back 8 or 9 men behind the ball. Good thing we were decent defensively, because Olympiacos definitely looked like they could nick a late heart-breaker.

One thing I'm concerned about is our wingers - precisely Valencia and Young. It's really bad for a player when the whole team is playing great and there's this one player which seems to stand out in a bad way, being very average. That was Valencia for us. Of course though, you have to give credit to him for playing on with the horribly swollen up eye/eyebrow area (he could have been substituted long before he was imo). As for Young - well, the less said about him the better. Literally every touch of his was disastrous.

Oh, one more thing - Moyes had said the following before the game:

Juan Mata is, of course, ineligible, while David Moyes said yesterday that Shinji Kagawa will definitely be involved at some point.

Wow, Kagawa was as involved in the game as I was! Poor lad...

And lastly, sorry for the several paragraphs of negativism - I really am over the moon, I was literally jumping and shouting in front of the TV last night - but we can't let this victory cloud the problems we have at the moment.

Just hope we do as good as last night in most of the remaining games of the season! :)

No problem...fans are always too pessimistic..i'm the same for Spurs and i also want Sherwood gone (not AVB, though)...
