Manchester United Thread

Yep my friend told me this yesterday. Apparently we're leading away. Maybe Moyes too relaxed home? Or maybe feels the pressure at Old Trafford still. Hopefully this changes.

You know how bad our home form is this season?

We have the best away record in the league. Let that sink in.

WTF? How is that possible?!

Just checked, with more games played you can only drop to 3rd on goal difference with City! And that's if Spurs and City win their matches.

Just goes to show how much your home record means in this league, as the top 6 sides' away record (assuming the games in hand get won) will only be separated by 3 points.

Whereas Liverpool and City have 16 and 18 more points with the same games at home.

I actually think it's a really interesting study into football psychology.

At home we're under so much pressure to 'match up' to Fergie's United, and a load of those matches have followed a similar pattern:
- Dominate possession, but not manage to score in opening 20 mins or so
- Concede on first sniff of a chance to the opposition
- Spend next 60 minutes looking stressed and low on confidence in front of the OT faithful

It's like the pressure of being at home is impacting the players and the manager. Not what you want.

And tactical inflexibility.

Setting a team up to be solid and score from a few chances (especially with the attacking quality Utd have) is far easier to do. But that only works away from home when there is less pressure to attack and more pressure for the home team to attack and open up.

Playing at home is a very different prospect for the big teams as every visiting team is "allowed" to be more defensive. I think Hodgson had the same issues (not sure). Away Liverpool weren't that worse off as the seasons before, but the home form had really dropped off.

Probably more to do with having a slow central midfield and defense and thus being unable to handle counter attacks.

Yeah. I mean Giggs performance in the Champions League game showcased what a different animal we'd be if we had someone doing that consistently.

I hope you win...the more i watch the EPL this season the more i'm cionvinced that there is only one team who dserves to win it as the most complete team: Chelsea.

Arsenal were great to watch before new year, but now they simply loose too much against the big clubs.
City score goals galore, but they are defensively weak (and by the way: they got more goals against when Kompany played than with De Michelis, that is an odd stat !).

Chelsea have it all: best defense, best DMF (Matic) a great finisher (Eto'o) and of course they have Hazard.

this makes no sens Gerd why?

because Chelsea have 69 points with 31 games , if City win games that have played less than Chelsea than they will have 72 points , Liverpool have 65 if they win tomorrows match vs Sunderland they will have 68 points just one less than Chelsea so how coms just ONE TEAM DESERVE to win EPL this season ? if you say "only one team deserve to win bundesliga this season and that team is bayern" than okay coz they have 25 (?) points more than 2nd in table so of course they deserve, Chelsea ? I dont think so

I thought youre a "pro good football" guy but yoore not , one neutral fan doesn't say chelsea deserve coz one neutral fan care to see good football which Chelsea its not known for.

Liverpool have scored 82 goals they havent lost a game in EPL in 2014 yet (9 won, 2 draw). they have 6 wins in row now , 3 wins in row away from home vs Sauthampton , United and Cardiff all of them they won leading with 3+ goals and in your comment you haven't talk at all about them.

"and of course they have Hazard" who the f*ck its Hazard ? Suarez its better than 3x Hazards

No-one deserves diddlysquat

Anyway, I'm getting nervous now :( . Much bigger game for us than it is for Utd, which in itself is weird. The last 2 trips to OT we've won but I've been more hopeful for a win rather than needing to win like tonight. Obviously we can afford to lose at leaat 1 game but we very rarely get anything away at Arsenal so a win tonight is very important

If only Aguero was back, my nerves would be much calmer. Negredo/Dzeko needs to perform!

do United even want to win this one?

No. United fans and players could care less about beating Manchester City.

Wait. What?!

We'll play to win, but get beat cause our team is nowhere near as high quality as City's, and because our manager can't overcome that difference.

Or are you insinuating that United would rather City win the title than LFC? We're not that small time, thanks very much. Unlike a certain England captain a couple years back...

i was mainly thinking of you not wanting to play Europa League, but i hope you win it obviously tonight :P

Apologies, fair enough.

I hope we make the Europa league and play our reserves. Some of them are really good, and deserve a shot in a United jersey. Pearson, Rothwell, Thorpe, Johnstone from the ressies, plus our host of loanees - Powell and the Keanes are quality - we could just send them out. It'd be fun.

Couldn't disagree more, they are the most cynical team around and are the most boring of the lot. Their attack is poor, as they are relying mostly on Hazard to create something. Just to put a number into perspective, Skrtl has scored more goals than Torres this season! Im not sure of the minutes played but I would expect him and Etoo to be pretty close to each other, so its not like Torres is 2nd choice either.

Really we should be relived they have poor strikers ( relative to the others) otherwise they might have ground out a few more wins...

And don't get me started on Mourinho. Chelsea were actually becoming a pretty pleasant team again with Ancelotti, Di Matteo and Rafa. Within a season they have gone straight to the top of my most hated teams again, mostly boring football and a c£&t as manager. Dont forget Chelsea have played their away games for a 0-0.....even at Old Trafford! I fully expect them to be flopping about at Anfield trying to disrupt any type of rhythm and kill the match.

I'd much rather Liverpool win the league than Chelsea.

Only Utd fans, Everton fans and Evo Web's favourite Belgian contrarian would disagree! :P

Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany (c), Demichelis, Clichy, Yaya Toure, Fernandinho, Nasri, Silva, Navas, Dzeko

De Gea; Rafael, Ferdinand, Jones, Evra; Carrick, Cleverley, Fellaini; Mata, Welbeck, Rooney

Whoever goes on to win the league deserves it, unlike a cup I fully believe that. right now no one has a right to it.

I think that mindset will slowly be moved out, Europa League has big value IMO with the winners qualifying for the Champions League, with how competitive our league is right that that avenue is a asset.

Carrick and Cleverley vs. Toure and Fernandinho

Yeah...

As to the league title: I can't root for a Mourinho team. He's just too unnecessarily horrible a manager. I struggle to root for any team that handled Suarez as they did too. If not for Suarez, I'd be supporting Liverpool. But one season of his best behaviour can't undo his whole career, no matter how quickly the pundits try.

OOPS !

I forgot Liverpool as a title candidate.
That explains the reactions of the Liverpool fans. Well, IMO you got the most intelligent manager and the best attack.
But Chelsea have the most complete team.

It's true that i'm contrarian. A season ago i said Henderson was a great player.... Almost nobody agreed with me... Then.

Erm...
