Manchester United Thread

Embarrassing commentary from Sky, Tyler was virtually willing Suarez to score by the end.

Martin claiming that the ball just happened to hit Chicharito and go in. Right. The way he adjusted his body was brilliant.

That felt far more like Manchester United :))

Kagawa had some funny moments but in general our play in the final third was a breathe of fresh air to what we've been served for the past 2 months.

So for the next round, we got drawn against Norwich, I guess that is a nice draw.

Anyone know what happened to Anders Lindegaard?? Why is he not on the bench lately and Ben Amos is?? I actually thought he'd be playing this match/competition more

We're so, so much better with Rafael at RB. Dramatic how much he changes our game.

Yeah actually, he's been a big loss, brilliant talent.

I thought the entire setup though is what created so much space really, we had tones of quality when coming forward and it showed.

Throw in a Carrick and Van Persie into last night's line up and that's basically our best team.

I just really really hope we ll find a replacement for the replacement (Buttner). Let's just give him the job of mascot or cheerleader. He s good for that I reckon.

Didn't think that number 11 was too bad for us last night, forget his name...

Really wasn't a perfect performance from the team by any means anyway, things weren't quite clicking, yet I still felt we were so much more of a threat than in previous matches. These players need more matches and I think with our fixture list they should theoretically get that.

If Young starts ahead of a Nani again anytime soon, Moyes is going to have to fear the pitchforks.

There's something wonderful about how frustrating Nani is. I've not really forgiven him for last season's Carling Cup f*ck up - we would have beaten Chelsea with our youth team otherwise. But, new season, new manager, new contract - surely he's a part of our best XI. Has more technique and touch in his left big toe than Ashley Young could dream of.

vs WBA

De Gea, Jones, Ferdinand, Evans, Buttner; Nani, Carrick, Anderson, Kagawa; Rooney (C), Chicharito

VERY positive line up, surprised, but happy.

Doesn't seem to be good enough to beat fkin West Brom
Time to pull out the check book in December

Chelsea, City and Utd are currently handing the title to the Gunners on a silver platter

Only question today was who worse: Phil Jones or Rio Ferdinand. An absolute master class in how to use individual mistakes to lose a match.

West Brom did well, two fantastic goals and defended with 9 behind the ball for most of the match. It's not surprising, but what is worrying is how easy it was to counter attack. One misplaced pass from Janujaz and that was it, 1 on 1 with the keeper because our midfield is so slow and defenders so naive.

I feel bad for Moyes. Put out a great lineup that should be good enough, but Rio and Jones and handed West Brom a win on a silver platter. Moyes will cop the flak, but it's not his fault today.

Well you missed out the answer, jonny evans.

Easily our worst CB in the club, Never really liked him, never will as he's terrible but to blame defenders for that loss is unfair. We lost all over the pitch, i can't think of any area where we were better than west brom today, Anichebe was outstanding in holding the ball up and we couldn't cope.

Let's just try cement a place in champions league this year and go from there. Don't really expect titles in moyes first season, work in progress.

Evans at least did his job - hold on to Anichebe. Look at the two of them, it's not like Jonny has a good shot at winning a tackling battle - which is all Anichebe offered. Anichebe is infinitely more dangerous without the ball than with it. We should just let him have possession ;)

But Rio was genuinely awful. Ignoring his body shape on the first goal, he then let Olsson have a free header a few minutes later, and stood up so straight as to barely make himself an obstacle for the second.

Compare that with the blocking of the WBA defenders...pathetic, even for a 35 year old with back problems.

Not sure what the answer is to be honest. Think we need a massive shift, and I'm not sure Moyes is the right man to do it. With Fergie we've always been incredibly open - United never suffocate matches (barca semi aside). We always gift chances to run at our back 4 because of how offensively Fergie sets up. The difference now is that our back 4 doesn't look good enough to handle it.

Watching Spurs/City/Chelsea you do wonder if it's not time for a seismic shift in our mentality - away from open and attacking to more nuanced and controlled. It's not like our openness is creating chances - all it's doing is making us vulnerable to counter attacks.

You just don't expect a team that's virtually identical to last year's to suddenly turn crap (granted Moyes played Young and Butthead more this year than SAF in the previous season) Funny how much a change in coaching staff can seemingly have such an effect.

And Godo: you are right there. Makes me feel a tad better

We were crap last year too. Only difference is last year we would have gotten a penalty for the late foul on Nani, and maybe Fellaini wouldn't have strayed offside.

This team hasn't been truly 'champion-like' for about 2 and a half seasons.

This is what happens when enough idiots spout on about 'walking the league' without taking into account the performances. We absolutely had to strengthen 3 years ago in central midfield, then were insane not to 2 years ago and now have finally bought one player, but he's replacing about 5 that have left.

Rio looks finished, Vida can't play every match, Carrick looks exhausted and we can no longer call on Scholsey and Giggs to make things happen.

We've ticked along but every year our genuine quality has fallen. Whether that's the Glazers, or Fergie's stubornness or Woodward's newness I don't know, but we're not in a great position. We have a lot of decent squad players like Jones and Evans, but they're not truly top level, and never will be.

The fall was inevitable after we became unable to compete at the very top of the market. Football is a simple sport, buy the best players and you generally get the best team.

Finally worth noting that Mourinho has hardly set the world alight at Chelsea, nor Ancelotti at Real, and I'm pretty sure my blind 14 year old cat could manage this Bayern team to the Bundesliga title. Just saying there isn't an obvious answer to who would be better suited to the job.

The league will be great this year.

I dont tend to come in here much, but from what I have seen so far reminds me so much of how Hodgson was at Liverpool. From the dubious interview answers ( fixture conspiracy, down playing expectations, saying how worthless last season championship was) to how lacking in fire the team/players seem to be on the pitch.

Fortunately for Moyes he wasnt hired by a hated ownership (well less so atleast), but chosen by Ferguson. Luckily for Moyes all the teams continue to drop points so he can still do well even with these early hickups.

Agreed. It's the fire thing that hurts the most. That said, there are few better organised teams in the league than WBA. Once they score, they play a back 6 and it's virtually impossible to break them down. We needed to take one of the first half chances, to prevent them being able to essentially play 8 defensive outfield players, which they did to great effect.

Also, and I know this might be a bug bear of mine, but the time wasting was incredible from WBA. Ball was in play for less than a minute in the last 6 minutes of regular time, and the ref still only gave 4 minutes. Of which all of 30 seconds of football was played, and he blew at 4 minutes exactly.

We could have played for 5 days and still not scored, but something should be done about that. Myhill was wasting time on goal kicks from the opening minute.

Yeah I hate that aswell, its so bloody obvious that it in no way is the correct time being played. And then you have other instances where 4min becomes 7min because of the time wasting during injurytime...yet the opposition has been doing it for the whole of the 2nd half.

Was at work today, so why did we lose, I was happy with the line-up and Januzaj got an entire 45 minutes :((

 Just noticed City lost too, makes me feel slightly better, not just us then.

:CONF:Strange MUTD losing I can`t even find them on the table :OH: Wesbrom are no push overs and they batter Arsenal`s mixed reserve squad , they just bottle the penalty shootout.

Da fuk?

I actually rate Evans, I think he was bad quite a few years ago and there's a significant improvement in the last 2 seasons, thus becoming one of our better CBs (my opinion of course).

Yeah, I think Evans and another is probably our best bet at the moment.

Starting to think we need to invest/promote another RB. Jones and Smalling have been utter gash there this season - it takes so much away from us when Rafael is out, and he's often out.

If only we had an identical replacement...oh. Maybe we could play him then ffs!

Watching the game back I thought Nani was very good, had two or three on toast when running at them, it seemed like we had the right idea's but some were of the pace.

I think in general the defense and midfield lost us that, didn't ever seem to have much control of the game and that's half the battle.

Januzaj looked very good IMO and tried to make things happen. Why hasn't Cleverley been given a chance to start, Anderson misplaces far too many passes.

Vidic was a huge miss and it seems on today's performance Rio looks definitely past it, he wasn't just done once or twice but constantly being 'merked'
