Manchester United Thread

I still believe in Danny, but think he needs to start differentiating himself from the other strikers. He's got the physique and technique to be a bit of a 'big man' type forward, which is the one thing we're still missing. He can be our Heskey ;)

He's the one that's got a 'bit' of everything without excelling at one aspect as well as the other three.

Speed, Technique, movement, energy, its all there but he needs to improve his awareness in around the box and start scoring on a more regular basis.

The Heskey stuff is weird, he's very talented for one. He's still just 22!

People said similar stuff about C. Ronaldo at a similar age. Granted, Welbeck will never be as good as CR but still...

It's not just Welbeck either. There's Hernandez, who is obviously very talented, who has been slagged off for ages. And then there's Anderson (who I do not rate at all) who has been mediocre at best for Utd but comes back does ok, scores a goal and suddenly fans are mourning his injury.

Most fans are embarrassingly fickle. Nothing new there, of course.

Kinda interesting; RvP compared to others over a 100 games:

rvp is world class, look how much more goals he scores with his weaker foot. massive consistency.

Really worried about tomorrow. West Ham for some reason view us as rivals, and it's always a tough place to go. Coupled with their general 'physical' game, I could see us having a similar experience to Everton earlier this year.

Fergie needs to stick out a serious team. There's a week of rest before Liverpool, so no need to rest the big guns. We've not won the FA Cup in absolutely ages, and some of our key players (Rooney for example) have never won it. Pity he won't be involved.

Is there a better referee in England to have at home than Martin Atkinson? My lord. Every slightest touch on a WHU and the crowd bay and he give it. Every slightest touch on a United player and he smiles and waves get up.

Which normally wouldn't be a problem, but these 'manly men' of WHU have realised this, and every time they're breathed on they're going down so they can hoof it on a free kick.

It's a very effective tactic when the referee is this weak. God I hate Atkinson, I worked it out last season (can't be bothered to again) but our win percentage literally halved in the last 3 seasons when he has us (including two crucial games against Chelsea, which eventually cost us a premier league).

Just gonna mask over another poor performance by the team and by Ferguson himself.
Don't know about you guys but Welbeck is starting to really peeve me off now.

Jaaskelainen should have stopped that but I'm glad you're not out. I want a derby final.

How long has Kagawa been back from injury? He was woeful from what I saw

fantastic performance by both teams..

Scholes realy is incredible player and that Giggs pass almost as perfect as Gerrard´s last home match ;)

once RVP was subbed, i knew he would score..

United are on fire..i bet you beat Real easyly.

Man Utd won't be Real Madrid easily, no chance. Mourinho knows the league in Spain is gone while he has to salvage season by winning the CL, Real Madrid's 10th European Cup.

He will throw everything at Man Utd. Will be a great tie.

On Van Persie - best striker in the league easily. Best in Europe/World? Falcao scores lots but against weaker defences IMO.

I'd be shit scared of Real's counter attack if I were a Utd fan (*shiver*)

Real are the best counter attacking team on the planet and should have been 3 or 4 up in the opening 25mins against us at our place ...and we have the best defense in the PL. Utd are gonna have to get their tactics spot on.

Do you City fans want Man Utd to go as far as possible? It will drain Man Utd resources team wise (i.e. injuries/tired players)

or on the flip side a winning habit is good to have, look at treble winning Man Utd team in 1999 and double winning 2008.

I always wonder what Ferguson would do with City's resources/money? He would be walking the league IMO.

Incredible manager - to this day I just dont know how he gets his players to keep that winning mentality, they just always go until the end.

I wanted them to stay in but beating Real would be a big confidence booster.

I don't really care now tbh. I think the league is probably Utd's this year.

With that said, if we can get a result at Arsenal (where we never do) I can see it becoming more interesting as I fancy Utd to drop points in the next few games (IIRC, they have Spurs and Liverpool in the PL either side of the FA Cup replay)

Amazing touch by RvP and once again very clutch. How many times now has he personally brought us back or delivered the win? Guess those stats above will look even better after this season. Amazing for a guy who was often an afterthought for the striker position during his earlier years. Even if he'd score less I'd consider him top 5 in the world atm bc he s quite literally a game changer, not just when shooting for goal. Amazing pass by Giggsy btw...the whole play was reminiscent of a Bergkamp powered attack.

Overall an entertaining and mostly friendly encounter. Cole looked good for West Ham and loved Collins being in awe of rvps goal in the postgame even tho he scored two himself. Classy fellow.

What a strange match. For the first 30 minutes I thought we were bloody fantastic...but in that Barcelona/Arsenal way which is rare for us. Everything on the ground, tons of triangles and intricate build up but with no end product. Tiki-takstapation as I think of it.

Second half we didn't show up.

I have some sympathy to our defense conceding on two headers. WHU are massive, the entire team. It's one thing when you can have your 2 centre backs mark the 'two big lads' but we literally didn't have enough height in there to deal with the big lads. Rafael was marking Kevin Nolan!

Agreed. I understand why SAF didn't play Ferdinand but having another tall guy in there would have helped against one of the better set piece teams in the EPL. Hell, RvP could have been of help considering the amount of balls he's cleared for us this season. Did you see the slomo replay of their 2nd goal btw? Almost hilarious to see how far off Vidic was when trying to challenge that header.

I'll be a bit honest and say I wouldn't mind if we field the reserves in the return leg, I'd love to win the FA Cup but I just don't think this team is capable of fighting on 3 fronts and when you have to choose between the FA Cup and the Champions League and Premiership its a bit of a no-brainier.

RVP if he remains fit *touches all he wood in the house* will fire us to the Title and a fighting chance in the Champions League.

I think we'll be leaving the CL in a few weeks, so not worried about being on 3 fronts. Really want the FA Cup, as per previous post - it's been absolutely ages for us. Rio's never won it!

As much as Im concerned about the strain it could put on the team to be involved in 3 competitions, I still have some faith and hope we can do some damage against Real. If we can keep it close in Madrid we can hopefully take advantage of the fact that the return at OT is a mere 3 days after they play Barcelona in La Liga. But, I think I'd rather take the double nationally than the faint chance of winning the CL as well (regardless of whether we beat Real...Barcelona, Dortmund, etc look way more likely to take it all).

Typically I'd agree, but they're 16 points behind Barca at this stage and it's Mourinho. He'll probably field the groundstaff in the Classico just to cause a fuss ;)
