Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Listen, I like Henderson, think he'll be a decent signing. But it just scares me that he's worth something like £20m. If a player that has 1 season under his belt, 1 cap for his country and fairly standard performances for that 1 year is worth £20m, what the hell is someone like Snjeider worth?

well he´s worth the risk, he´s 20 and quality - possible class
Sneijder is 26, world class - still to have his peak...

but then again Sneijder sallary i think is tripple the one of Henderson..

and he´s not english, imagine if Sneijder was english.. :D

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Another point to make is that Henderson is costing us £13m. If he doesn't work out for us, we'll likely be able to sell him for close to that amount and recoup most of the money due to his age etc.

If he does work out, then obviously his value increases and we've done a good deal. People doubted Torres and his value when he arrived, we doubled the money on Torres. People doubted Suarez and his value, he's likely worth considerably more than £23m now.

It's a risk, as is every transfer. But at 20 years old, it's a risk well worth taking in my opinion.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

And now Phil Jones is having a medical at United? This has turned into silly season already, it's like deadline day at the start of June

Edit: Yep, all over the journalists' timelines now. £16m and medical this afternoon.

#mufc interest in Jones dates back 18 months, but Fergie wanted to wait til next summer. Lpool move has forced their hand.

Do you need CB strengthening? I wonder what that's done to your budget and how it'll affect buying for other positions like an attacking midfielder.

No one knows our budget but that's 2 players signed then 1 more to go.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Urgh, strange one that. Sounds like Fergie doesn't have too much faith in Rio's back, because even this season when he and Vida lined up together United had far and away the best defence in the league. Unless Fergie is planning on sticking Jones in the midfield, but I've not really seen enough from his ball playing skills to think he warrants it.

Looks like curtains for Brown, big question marks for Evans (which is sad, given how good he was the season before this one).

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

We're not denying we've spent unwisely / over the top, just commenting on how extreme the varying cost of English players is at the moment, and how people come up with these valuations.
Welbeck also has a lot of potential. Many involved in our youth & reserves regard him highly. He played well when he had a few chances in the first team a couple of years ago (scoring a screamer against Stoke too), and has gone out on loan and still earned rave reviews.

Modric is being valued at around £20m - are you honestly telling me that Henderson is in the same class (both currently & potentially)?

For every bad signing we've made I'm sure we could name another that you've made, but there's no point going down that road to be honest.

Does any sane person actually believe that? That's just poor journalism, making up stories coupled with sensational headlines.

Ashley Young is a good, sometimes very good player. I'd imagine that Fergie n co will coach him into being a more consistent player but £17m for a player with one year left on their contract is just silly.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Very please to hear he's having a medical with us. He's looked very competent every time I've seen him and I've always found it difficult to believe his age.

I don't expect Evans to leave, I think he'll continue along the path that has been given to him lately and that's as a left back.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Never seen him play apart from against us so I have no idea if he's amazing or crap but it looks like he isn't part of the "3" signings and rather we've moved quickly to get him since Liverpool showed interest and we'd have rather waited a year. He can play as a Destroyer also which sounds good Hargreaves replaced!

Value Beachryan? We've spend roughly 40M already :))

I'd say £25m would be fair, or £18-20m + Berba.
Definitely the media's fault, although teams that are happy to throw a lot of money at average signings (no, I'm not having a dig at Liverpool) don't help.
One example - what was Milner? £24m? On the back of one good season? Hasn't really impressed at City since, or looked anything like a marquee signing. Especially compared to Yaya Toure, who cost around the same.

£17m for Ashley would be a bit much like you say. £10m would be a more reasonable amount...

Happy with the Phil Jones signing too. Was really good against us this season, as well as the few other games I saw on Sky. Only question is where / when will he be used?
Sounds like the end of Wes, possibly O'Shea as well?

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Steve Kean has said on a local radio station that Jones isn't even having a medical at MUFC and that MUFC haven't agreed a fee yet???

WTF?!

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Tobi's right Jamesy, Modric won't go for anything under 30M atleast IMO.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

We've not signed anyone yet. Until I see De Gea, Jones, Young - whoever - in a red United jersey at Carrington/ OT I won't believe it.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

common, what else opinion does De Gea have than United? who would spend more money than you on him? He is pretty much yours even if not official ;)

Young and Jones maybe true..but De Gea is surely your new GK..

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

SSN reporting that we've received a bid of £12m for Gibbo, Brown and Sheasy.

Weird feeling on that one. Think it's too low personally, especially given O'Shea's big match experience. But, he's also not exactly the greatest player we've ever had, and it'll open more opportunities for youth.

Big gamble on the twins actually staying fit for more than 10 minutes though.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Modric isn't going anywhere but in terms of his valuation, he's a far better player than Henderson, has six years left on his contract and is the most important player in his team. In this inflated market, £25/30 million is laughable.

Also, unlike Carrick who left the club on good terms, Berba acted like a little bitch to force his move through and there is no way that Daniel Levy would take him back. He would rather negotiate the deal then walk away at the very last second and leave Berba hanging.

"If fatty Rooney, 30 a day Berbatov, Michael Owen, and Benjamin Button Hargreaves can pass a medical at that club then the lad Jones must have limped into the medical with a couple of knives in his gut."-Funeee TLW

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

No way did he fail a medical yesterday, but nor did he take one. Apparently he was already in Denmark.

Press = ignorant.

No signings til seen em in the jersey. Not going to get excited bout it til then.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Apparently it was a shit rumour and he has passed it, will be unveiled today and arrived in the Danish camp yesterday evening in high spirits.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I dunno, selling O'Shea and signing Nasri both seem to be very unFergie-like transfers.

It's turning out to be a bizarre summer of muppetry.
