Mafia 2

neh, i will still enjoy it but just something i noticed (probably just my opinion)

I share OPM fear of mafia technology quickly aging by today AAA titles standards.

That said, what made the first one awesome was the mission structure, a great sense of storytelling and compelling characters. If they have that in this sequel, I really don't mind if graphics are somehow lagging behind.

In fact, I loved Heavy rain and would have loved it even if they had developed it in a ps2. I come from the 80s, we used to play with 8x8 monochrome sprites.

Way longer than that for me because it was a pretty hard game

I bet it was longer for others as well with the dreaded racing car mission, which fortunately i did pretty easily

Yes, but the question is whatever those 15 hours is effective gameplay or including driving between missions etc. The first one was supposed to be like 12-13 hours effective gameplay, main story. If this one is the same then I think it's pretty good.

If that doesn't include driving to places your looking at a lot longer than 12-13 hours

Also you get into these games more than most so your not doing mission after mission sometimes your happy just to mess about for a bit or do side missions if there is any

It was easy with a steering wheel ;)
I loved the fact you could switch btw mouse on foot and use a wheel when you jumped in a car.
I also liked taht you could complete a mission even though you didn't do it correctly. I couldn't find the gun on the boat mission and ended up beating the mayor to death with a bucket because he ran away from his bodyguards!

Plus agree totally with the ending

2K Games has announced that Mafia II is due out for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 24th August in the US and 27th August in Europe.

Max Payne & Mafia were the reason I ever played PC games... sadly I never felt the same w/ any other games. Story lines were better than a flick.

Looking forward to these 2 legends again..

A swedish gaming journalist now has it and has posted a few blogs about it.. seems very pleased.

"Right now Mafia 2 is as amazing as an action game can be"
"I keep blabbering about the atmosphere but it worth mentioning over and over again. It's brilliant"
"I've played a couple of hours now and I'm impressed. Controls is perfect. Really perfect. The car physics is heavy, floppy and perfectly suitable for the city and the game mechanics during the gunfights is really, really good with an amazingly smooth and effective cover-system."

(He scored RDR 9/10, GTA IV 10/10)

Looking forward to this, but the fact there's no side missions or other stuff to do in the world disappoints me, they create this big open world but all you can do is follow the main story, a little disappointing and means when your 15 hours or so is up the game is done.

It better had do, I played the original mafia with the keyboard and mouse either side of a steering wheel, you could have a gunfight with keys/mouse then jump in a car for a getwaway, using the wheel and pedals. It was a brilliant way to play a game of this type. I've not played one with that control scheme since...

A demo for upcoming gangster fest Mafia II will be available from 10th August, an advert in videogame trade magazine MCV has revealed.

The demo will be available on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. We're trying to find out what'll be in it.

The game's out 17 days later, on the 27th.

Mafia II is an open-world action-adventure with a difference - it's more of a period drama with a Grand Theft Auto-esque structure than a sandbox.

2K Czech has set out a serious story and keeps control of key ambient elements like the day-and-night cycle in order to accentuate the narrative.

Eurogamer went hands-on earlier this week, and survived to tell the tale. Full review is due soon.
