Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Well now it's abit all down and gloomy now that stupid management actually put a pen on a contract BEFORE they face their rivals for 5th spot, adding more complexion and pressure then it's necessary, I just don't know why they done that now instead of the summer. Gosh it's like King Kenny has anywhere else to go?

It was a risky challange by Flanagan, it can go either way, and Crouch was HUGE for Tot, Dawson and King played very well. Rose is a rising star as Flanagan.

On next weekend so we'll determine the fate of Europa League next season. And don't start by telling it's a blessing in disguise.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

some could argue it was outside of the box, some could argue it was a shoulder barge

either way risky challenge by the young lad.

simply not good enough today. Caroll has lots to prove, really not a fan yet.
Was never convinced with his arrival and he has done nothing to prove wrong skeptics.
So far, except against City, we have played horrible football when he is in the team.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

i would judge him after some more games..

afterall he came from injury + he has no wingers to provide him with crosses, he had chances today that could be goals..

i would not say we played "horrible" today.. spurs were amazing and we could as well draw today, we had chances as well.. + the decisions by Webb again were questionable...i kind of expect not to win if he´s our referee...

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Spurs deserved that, were the better team in the 1st half, with a total lack of movement from Liverpool. And the penalty...well, for a start Flanagan doesn't actually challenge much, have a look, it's Peinaar who throws his weight in, and it's on or outside the line. But didn't really matter, Spurs deserved and Liverpool didn't. Just a shame that a poor decision again ends a match. Not sure how much was down to Carrol coming in, or Meireles being out. Team played really well against City with a huge amount of movement, think it was more down to Meireles being out and the midfield lacking clever movement and balance then Carrol causing the team to be so poor.

Would much rather have EL football then not, if for nothing else it will keep Liverpool's Euro coefficients up and hopefully keep them as a 1st seed for the CL next-next season if they qualify.

But it might be a good thing to lose this match, should dampen some of the ridiculous expectations the run has created. Could still be an interesting final day, Birmingham really need to work to keep up and Villa are done so you never know, wouldn't put it past Redknapp to put a lame team out just to make sure (as he can say they did want it with the result today).

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Suarez was very, very lucky not to get sent off for that silly little kick.

He's got that snide, sneaky, dirty side to his game, unfortunately.

I remember him biting Otman Bakkal earlier this season.

again this.said it quite a while ago.he looks like a heskey+crouch combo.35mill?we were mugged.we look much more mobile, fluid movements and more dangerous with him out.makes kuyt look like rush really.he(carrol)needs to pick it up big time.

you were pretty quick to judge the likes of spearing, flannagan, robinson.that said,we could have had robben+ribery today, andy would have done fuck all as well.won nothing in the air, looked heavy legged.poor outing from the big man.like we were playing with ten....

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

well...i remember him playing against City at home as well, just few weeks ago.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Every player has a good game. A 35M player should a lot more consistent and have more influence in the game. We really look terrible with him in our side and brilliant these last games when he wasnt.. I think it was an irresponsible transfer from Kenny.

What's the price got to do with it? Everyone knows he wasn't really valued at £35m by Liverpool but we needed to replace Torres quickly and we agreed that the Torres asking price would be whatever Newcastle wanted for Carroll plus £15m, so it's harsh to criticise Carroll based on the price.

Everyone seems to be forgetting that he's been injured so he's bound to be a bit off the pace and as Meireles was injured it made sense to start him. When he's fully fit (and we have Gerrard back in the middle) i'm sure he'll prove his worth to the team.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

agree...as much as the 35 milions stand out, this are invisible money we get with swap with Torres, i think Torres did even worse for Chelsea than Carroll did for us..he cost us 15 milions less and he´s 5 years younger than Torres...give him a break. I´m sure he will turn out great for us, as soon as we buy few more players in summer and strenght our squad..

I think you always have to take into account the value of the player and his contract, when you are going to analyze. With wingers and a creative player in the midfield, he may start being more consistent, but so far, with him in the team we had play horrible football and as Kenny himself said a few days ago you got to be responsible with your money, and paying 35M in the overrated January market for a player that had injured himself drunk on a casino, is not being responsible.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

everything.expectations are much higher when you pay 35mill as opposed to 1-2 mill.the expectations of andy carroll, our new 35mill no9 are much much higher than david ngog for instance[/QUOTE]

Everyone knows he wasn't really valued at £35m by Liverpool but we needed to replace Torres quickly and we agreed that the Torres asking price would be whatever Newcastle wanted for Carroll plus £15m, so it's harsh to criticise Carroll based on the price.

hence why some are calling it a panic buy.funny how when rafa bought aquilani, people were questioning him for buying a crock.alot of people are blindfolding themselves when we just bought an unproven, overhyped ENGLISH crock(well not really but you get my drift) for 35mill

Everyone seems to be forgetting that he's been injured so he's bound to be a bit off the pace and as Meireles was injured it made sense to start him. When he's fully fit (and we have Gerrard back in the middle) i'm sure he'll prove his worth to the team.

which begs the question why play him.when suarez came back form his injury,or anyone else for that matter, hardly off pace unless its a long layoff innit?i am in no way shooting the player down, but carroll has to expect the criticism as his price tag justifies it.the same fernando torres is being ridiculed as a 50mill flop......

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Kenny did OK with the money from Torres sale and considering he had hours to get us Torres replacement.

Suarez was bought to play alongside Torres, before he requested transfer! We were not expecting Torres to want to few days before end of transfer window..

Talking about horrible football with Carroll in a team without wingers is stupid.

well, i´m calmed enough.. i think we need to start season properly and give him time to settle to new club and new team mates...

He will obviously always have this price tag on his head, wich is bad to be honest.. but we should give him chance before we judge him..

it´s very bad how some fans lack patience with some players ..

agree that he needs a good pre season(although the u-21 comp doesnt help i feel).unfortunately, players are always gonna be judged after every game.just like how suarez has been phenomenal, flanno has been good, spearing has been decent etc.carroll hasnt exactly been any of the above unfortunately.he played so deep yesterday it was unbelivable.his mobility has to be questioned.thats not saying he's a bad player.he's just not been up to par so far.maybe its becos suarez has hit the ground running and carroll with the "premiership experience" has been below par.but i can tell you the price tag doesnt help.after the robbie keane fiasco, fans have every right to be wary.thats not to say we or they are impatient.especially liverpool fans.we lot are way too patient.anyhow, here's to hoping it will all work out with andy next season.god knows we need it to work.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

UJ, unfortunately Caroll's prize could become a very important factor. He would not be the first player who succumbs under the weight of the prize he has cost. This happens quite frequently. Right at the moment i'm thinking about a good example, but this was in Belgian football and will not mean much to you...

The excuse that Liverpool don't have any decent wingers is a poor excuse. When Caroll was bought they knew damn well what squad they had. And if Caroll is useless without wngers, why not give Jovanovic a second chance. I'm not saying he's a world beater (i always had my doubts that he's good enough for Liverpool) but i also think he never got a decent chance to prove himself. Jovanovic is a winger who played in Standard with a CF who is similar to Caroll (Mbokani)...IMO Mbokani is better than Caroll (but right at the moment he has serious attittude problems).

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Haven't seen the game as I was on a short holiday over the weekend but from what I can gather it was a mixture of us playing poorly, Spurs playing well, Webb being ... Webb and Carroll still trying to get up to speed. One of those games I guess and it's down to the last game.

Either way, we've had a remarkable rise since January, the future still looks very bright despite one single result letting us down and we'll see where we end up. I can see both sides of the EL argument, the advantage of it being another trophy to compete for, the disadvantage of playing on a Thursday. Whatever place we finish, I'll be happy with how the season has finished and still look forward to next season far more optimistic than I would be if Kenny & Steve hadn't taken over.

Roll on next season :)

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

The thing is the constant use of "we HAD to replace Torres instantly"

Why? He's a great player but at the time and just like now, he wasn't really firing on all cylinders or anything and Suarez was coming in so 1 in and 1 out. what was the rush of WE NEED SOMEONE NOW?! couldn't you have waited till the Summer, realistically you weren't going down and you weren't getting into the top 4 so why not see how Suarez and the team performs for the rest of the season (pretty good it turns out) and then spend that 35M in the Summer.

Totally agree with you.

becouse at that time we were in bottom half of the table, without any CF except maybe NGog and Kuyt.. Suarez we couldn´t risk with keeping it without Torres replacement..what if Suarez needed more time to adapt and didn´t played as now..? To good Kuyt found his form again... building a nice duo with Suarez..

for united fans, imagine you have only this strikers: Berbatov(/Torres), Owen(/Kuyt) and Bebe(/Ngog) (No Rooney or Hernandez) and you sell Berbatov away, buying unproven winger/striker.. wouldn´t you seek for Berbatov replacement?

surely youre talking bout the risk we took on carroll?

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Yeh but for example if Suarez didn't hit the ground running how would have Carroll? You signed him injured and hes hardly contributed anyway?

oh man, Suarez was bought to play alongside Torres, Torres was gone so we needed to buy his replacement.. Carroll is great replacement and he give us many goals..he scored against us in Newcastle shirt...out of all the CF in premier league, i would only take Bent over him atm. Bent was signed with Villa so we took Carroll...i´m 100% sure Kenny watched him before we bought him...

give him a chance ffs, he´s been 5 minutes at the club and already he´s not good enough...

Simple. Because FFP comes into play in the summer and that £35m would make a big dent in our FFP balance whereas in January it wouldn't affect FFP.

If we waited until the summer, the £35m would be sat on top of whatever FSG were planning to spend in the summer anyway, let's say £25m. So that's £60m to spend. FFP rules mean you can only spend what you earn, and we wouldn't be able to get close to being able to spend £60m without being penalised for it. So we spend the £35m in January, we get the player for five years and not five months as Kenny has said numerous times, and we still have the £25m to spend in the summer, which is closer to what we'll be able to spend anyway.

Those 5 minutes seemed enough for you to judge the likes of Flannagan or Spearing.
You cant be serious if you say that taking into account all the CF in the Premier you would only take Bent over him ... I could name at least 10 strikers better than him.
