Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

I wonder if Roy is watching? See this, Roy? THIS is how we're meant to play. And Kenny didn't even need the six months to settle in that a manager is meant to need, despite Kenny being out of the game for so long and being out of touch with the modern game.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Suarez is for me best player in Premier League.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Anyone think Suarez played Hangeland out of a summer move to Arsenal? He was terrible today, or Suarez was ridiculously good.

Great performance from the team, Shelvey played some good stuff coming on for Meireles.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

overwhelming to say the least I`m glad we don`t face this Lpool now! not so sure for Spuds :P

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

amazing performance well done reds YNWA

took Fergie a lifetime to get past us , will take kenny 2 years haha

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Suarez is for me best player in Premier League.

on a non tempermental day tevez too, quite simular players.

unbelievable at the start of the season how everyone said
benitez had left the squad in a mess due to hodgsons failings.

look what kenny has done with the good batch of players and
youngsters. come the summer we need to get rid of the deadwood
cole, jovanovich, poulsen, PFK etc....and bring in some quality.

one player i hope we're looking at is n'zogbia such a talented
player not be slept on.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Very happy for Suarez, Liverpool and especially Maxi over the last few weeks! He hadn't seen many happy moments as a footballer over the last couple years. Many downs and not much ups... good to see him enjoying himself and good to see Kenny (such a classy man) doing so well. I certainly had my doubts about him and I'm still not entirely convinced but he's definitely for now proven me as well as many others I'm sure wrong so let's hope he continues this.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Congratulations, great result against a good team.
Suarez is doing much better than i would have thought, i wasn't convinced about him..i was terribly wrong.
Just like PLF i'm happy for Maxi...hope this can give him confidence.
While it would be foolish to deny that Dalglish is doing really great, i think the comparision with Hodgson is unfair. First of all Hodgson is doing a wonderfull job at WBA and secondly when Hodgson took over, there were very dark clouds hanging over the future of the club. After the takeover the future looks bright and that is the big difference between the beginning of the Dalglish era and the beginning of the short spell with Hodgson at the helm.

And there is another difference: Hodgson never got the credit of the fans that Dalglish had...i wonder how some people who worship Dalglish now, would react after 3 or 4 consecutive losses...

But to end this post on a positive note: with a few good buys Liverpool will compete for a CL place and maybe even the title next year...and that is a very good thing for football.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

We've had losses under Kenny, but at least we lost trying to play good football and that's all any fan asks for. Roy had us playing terrible football, sitting back too much, long balls, no pressing, no movement and too rigid, no charisma. He's doing well at WBA as he's suited to smaller teams, just like he did well at Fulham. He sets his teams up to be broken down and that's not how we play.

Such an exciting future with the possibility of Kenny in charge next season, the summer transfer window and the likes of Spearing, Flanagan (who was fantastic again last night) and Robinson coming through.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

best we've played in a long time.loved the pass and move football.while suarez was outstanding, lets not forget the excellent work lucas did.kept it all together.two more games to go,if we nick the cl place off city, hard to see the job not given to KK.if not, makes it a little bit easier for jw henry to get somone else on board.we have to and will be no doubt be challenging for the title next season.forget two years time, forget third to fifth.as long as we are in contention till late april, early may,it will be a good season.with or without kk.....

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Bit too early to say what we'll be doing next season but it's definitely promising.

Lucas has been the player of the season in my opinion. What Suarez has done since January is remarkable but Lucas has just been consistent and shone throughout the whole season. Great to see him step up and prove the doubters wrong, and I was one of the ones who doubted him at times.

Not sure how it makes it easier to give the job to someone else if we don't get 4th though. I doubt anyone would seriously had expected us to get to 4th when Dalglish took over and he couldn't have done much better in the league really.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Lucas is one of the few players in the side who has played well under Hodgson and Kenny.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

reading all your posts guys, you always mention King Kenny, but obviusly the reason we play this football is also becouse of this man

copy_(2)_of_107953220ap019_liverpool_tr.jpg

i belive he has great career ahead of him, since he was Mourinho assistent at Chelsea and even then Mourinho told, he´s so good, he is already good to be coach at world class team...

Lucas is one of the few players in the side who has played well under Hodgson and Kenny.

don´t forget Skrtel, who was starter for Rafa, Roy and Kenny.. ;) very underrated player for many..

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Clarke is getting a lot of praise and deservedly so, our defence has been far better since he arrived.

I can't believe we're still in with a chance of getting 4th spot if results go our way, unbelievable. It wasn't so long ago that relegation was a worry, an incredible turnaround.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Whatever happens this season, I think the most positive is that the club are looking like they will "comfortably" be up there challenging for the 3rd/4th CL spot next season. Half-way through this season the club looked pretty doomed and likely to be out of Europe for a couple of seasons. Now it's looking like a EL-tester season is possible and a solid effort to regain CL football for next season. Unless Chelsea overhaul there team (Lampard, Drogba, Anelka and Drogba won't improve and are all getting on now) I think the teams will be getting closer and closer to each other.

I'm not sure about City, even after spending 400mil they still aren't spectacular (unlike Chelsea who moved up from 4th to 2nd and CL semi's followed by League wins) and I think Mancini might have a touch of Benitez in him, with regard to overestimating the required tactics for the league...they still essentially play with 7 defensive players and hope that Tevez can do the business. Not sure how many WC players they can buy to make the required difference vs team tactics and mentality. Utd won it this season on mentality and not much else imo. And before the visiting Mancs start, with that I mean that as a group of players they don't stand out as a level above the rest of the top 4, it's the mentality that has made the difference.

I don't think Spurs will improve, unless they change manager. Utd will remain the same and develop the players they have (Rooney, Nani, Hernandez, etc.) and maybe get a WC replacement for Scholes and Vd Sar.

Liverpool can't do anything but improve imo. So it should be pretty close next season.

and the best thing about this, we play this results with Roy´s team that Rafa leaved, except Roy let go Aquilani and Insua and bought Poulsen, PFK and some others that we realy don´t play or miss now...

except maybe Joe Cole..who get´s some minutes..

not to mention the injured players - starters.. we have now..

best thing about this situation is, that Kenny didn´t started yet...

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

How long till we are labelled a one man team with Suarez?

BTW Anyone remember that scouse lad we used to play...Steve someone?

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Took me awhile, think he did an interview today...

It will be interesting to see how the team reacts when he's back, and if they make sure that he is only 1 of the 11. With Gerrard getting older, I think he will have to learn to only go for it in bursts and let the rest of the team work. Hopefully they can train that during pre-season. Something I noticed yesterday, which was good imo, was when Flanno had the ball and Suarez was running towards him and asking for the ball he ignored him and played it to Lucas...because he was better positioned with more time on the ball.

And generally players are complimenting each other for trying or completing good passes and moves, instead of having a moan when it doesn't work.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Gerrard future depends a lot of his helth obviously..if he manage to get fit for next season, than he is starter for us anyday...he would be better than our current squad in every position with all respect to others except maybe GK..Stevie is still our captain, and the fact that others are playing good, only is good for the competition, something we lacked for years... we had to many players that were automatic starters..wich is not good..

Stevie will probably return to his position as AM with Lucas, Raul and Spearing + maybe new signing CM or Aquilani behind him or in one line with him...

Stevie might be older, but if you look on how Giggs or Scholes keep playing, i think we could use Stevie in future just like that... he can continue playing for next 5 seasons i belive, that is if he stayes fit..

edit: He will be just 31 in may ;) That´s not the age to think of retirement at all..

edit2: well maybe retirement from England nt.. at some point..

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Good assessment of the big teams tiktiktik (you really should search another nick).
I agree with City, it seems as if this team is a Rolls Royce that is only used to go tho the grocer around the corner. With players like Silva, Dzeko, Johnson, Tevez and Kompany, better football should be possible.

I also agree with your assessment of Spurs, they really need a good manager (can't understand why Harry should be the next England manager, that would be a major disaster).

You are underestimating Chelsea, i think they will buy a couple of good players. In fact Liverpool have a similar problem as Chelsea. You mention Lampard and Drogba, both are club icons but are (slowly) on their way back...Liverpool will face a similar problem with Gerrard and Carragher (and as a neutral i think Lampard and Drogba inidividually are better than both Liverpool icons). If i would be Dalglish, i would find another club for Gerrard. Right at the moment Liverpool still can get a huge amount of money for him...It is better for Gerrard to leave while he is still a good player than facing the Raul-scenario...Raul became a pain in the ass in Madrid...

I agree with United. It seems that United don't need big stars (apart from Rooney) to win silverware. The reason is that they have extremely clever players who are real team players (two examples: Park and Valencia). I've seem the match against Chelsea and to me MVP of that math was Ji-Sung-Park...

You forgot to mention Arsenal. If Wenger learns from his mistakes, Arsenal might be the most promising team for the future...but they don't seem to have a winners mentality.

Reasoning like this, it seems as if Liverpool don't need much to compete for the title...they need a acouple of young hungry players who are clever...Not necessarily the most expensive players.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

i highly doubt that Gerrard will leave.. the same Carra..

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Well Carragher is so obvious he is not going to leave. Not because he would only play for Liverpool (he has made clear when Benitez was in charge that if he didnt give him a new contract he was going to play for another club), but because we are the only club in the world that would pay to him a megacontract.

He wasnt starter for Rafa. When all fit, Carragher-Agger was his pick.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Not wanting to bring him up again but this is a pretty interesting stat:

@OptaJoe 17 - Since January 1 2010 Dirk Kuyt has scored more Premier League goals (17) than Fernando Torres (16). Industrious.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

yeah right, but he was bought to replace Agger due to his injury and he played with Carra more than Agger since then... and to mention agger, it´s realy sad to see him injured, since i hoped for Agger - Skrtel long partnership..

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Not wanting to bring him up again but this is a pretty interesting stat:

well, it´s not that ridicilous at all..i always knew that Kuyt is CF,not side midfield or wing..he is the CF we had all the time but not having wingers, he played 3 years out of his natural position...now with Kenny pushing him at CF he delivers...

we wasted many goals by playing Kuyt out of position imo..

about Torres, that was great timing of selling him.. i still think he didn´t fit in Chelsea current team..

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

I think that Kuyt doesnt have what it is need to be a top striker in the Premier League. That is why Rafa pushed him to the wing, and it was a very good decision because as a striker he would have never been his first choice but in the wing his intelligence to position (like Maxi these last matches), has made him possible to score, assist and appear in important matches.
I dont think he has played as a striker these last matches, he is still playing wide with Suarez playing central. Yesterday it was very clear we were playing a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 (depending how you want to see it).
Anyway, despite him being an intelligent and hard worker player, he isnt the player i would like to have as a wide man in my team. I think him as a good asset in any team because he is hard worker, can play in a lot of positions, is good in almost every aspect of the game (but apart from his hard work he doesnt have any aspect where you can say, this is a strenght), but if we want to assist Carroll we are going to need a Nani/Valencia/Young/Menez/Gervinho type of player.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

I think some of you lot are getting carried away, yes Dalglish is doing a great job but the real test will be how he gets his new signings performing next season because he's done a fantastic job but he hasn't had the most pressure on his shoulders once you got up to 6th. I think as things stand right now your joint 5/6th side along with Spurs, that could change in the Summer.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

i disagree, since there was a difference with us and Spurs, they had one manager whole season and we got two, to be fair, we have to look at the table or at our performances since Kenny arrived..

Maybe he was without pressure at beginning just to get us higher from relegation spots, this i might agree...but i disagree with the part we are a 5 - 6 place side...currently we are a top 3 side since Kenny arrived (especialy in this tight season we would be much higher if Kenny arrived after Rafa..)

Also i will repeat, he deals with Roy´s/Rafa´s squad currently, injurys to 3 starters..

Kenny's done alright when he's managed Liverpool before and had to deal with pressure. Management isn't new to him, you know?
