Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Fuck that.

We're 4 points behind Spurs, they've got 2 games on us but still have to play us as well as Arsenal, City and Chelsea (the Liverpool, City and Chelsea games are all away from home for them).

Liverpool's next two games are Birmigham and Newcastle at home, if we win those two and Spurs lose to Arsenal and Chelsea we'll be a point behind them come the 1st of May, making the Liverpool vs Tottenham game massive. I'd much much much rather that scenario than having to wait on the FA Cup final and other results and then hope City fuck things up in the league.

Yep, far better. Also with the previous situation you could end up on the final day that Liverpool would need to lose to Spurs, but that Everton are close enough to get 6th.

It's pretty ridiculous what the FA Cup has created.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

interesting read, but tbh, i realy don´t care about what has been.. we need to thank god we don´t have this two as our owners anymore...

btw. Good thing United draw yesterday becouse now Arsenal might sniff a chance and will try much harder to beat Tottenham i guess.. :D

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Great news that we've started talks to keep Steve Clarke here for three years, we've looked a LOT better defensively since he arrived.

Probably also means talks are still ongoing with Kenny.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

I've read that excerpt of the book...if this is true: poor Benitez.

Shouldn't we hope Spurs win? If they win their game in hand they are equal on points with City. Would be interesting to see if City have the mentality to get 4th, failing for a 2nd consecutive year would be very amusing. I also think it's in Liverpool's best interest that Spurs get the CL again, I don't think Redknapp has the skill to make them stronger without huge amounts of money, they continue to be consistently inconsistent, and it will also hamper City's development. Another year means less high profile players and with less money to spend with the FFP rules coming it could keep them down for a bit more.

I have to say I'm finding the extracts very "tabloid", but the essence of the story doesn't seem to be far off.

Absolutely. No one in their right mind (aside from 35k mancunians) should want City to get into the top 4. It's only a matter of time til they buy the title, cups the lot, so we should postpone it as long as possible.

(particularly as they've basically set f*ck off to financial fair play, and will just use their army of lawyers/ buckets of gold to ensure they can do what they want)

Yes tik, i agree with the tabloid style of that excerpt. The part about the panda on viagra was horrible...i will certainly not read that book.
Nevertheless i'm glad dags posted the link, to me this was revealing.

Have they? The last I heard, a few months ago now, was someone saying they would meet all the requirements. Haven't heard a "f$#k off" in the meantime though.

@ Gerd, yeah some parts a really cringeworthy.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

i must laaugh, he is profesional football player, what did he expected in Liverpool, to have serbians waiting for him? that article for me is bullshit, he came to our club as free player, his wages therfore must be high... he was wanted in Wolfsburg in January, right after they sold Dzeko to City, and he didn´t wanted to move, the club were ready to sold him..

I don´t want to sound bad or something, but he talks as if he just made his first move at age 18...

also i agree, he is definetly not a midfielder and no wing, he is CF, that´s the place where he played for Standard, that´s the position he was best for that club, for his country he might play as LW, but i think also Real wanted him at some point of his career as CF. If 17 year old boy get´s chance by Kenny, everybody does... Jovanovic probably just like Poulsen, Konchesky and others who don´t play, has not the will to break and see himself already away...just shame.

He choose Liverpool and made mistake, lol, he choosed us becouse most probably we gave him best money + chance to play maybe.. he came knowing there is still Fernando Torres at the club, with Ngog.. with Babel, Kuyt as well as strikers or wingers..

anyway, i wish him good luck.. just the things he says are unmature for his age and for a profesional, who has to count with everything, even that the coach who buys him will be sacked the day after..

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Pipa, Jovanovic never ever played as a centre forward for Standard: Mbokani was the centre forward if they played one upfront. If they played two upfront Igor de Camargo joined him. If they played 3 upfront Jovanovic played as a winger, but never ever as a centre forward. I should know because i regularly go to Standard matches.

Jovanovic is a strange guy, but a great player. I always doubted that he was good enough for Liverpool, but i have the impression that he never got a decent chance to prove himself. He could go to Wolfsburg? Well i think it's a very sensible thing that he did not go to Wolfsburg, look where Wolfsburg are now...Wolfsburg is known as a club with a very, very difficult squad.

Look at Jovanovic's point of view. 16 clubs showed intrest in him, but Benitez charmed him to Liverpool. Like Jovanovic says: if you got the chance to go to a club like Liverpool, you don't refuse that...and then Benitez leaves Liverpool...the new manager does not believe in you and the club is a right shambles...

There is a strong rumour in the Belgian press that Liverpool are after another Standard player: Steven Defour. Defour is very talented, a real leader, a winner, but he is litle and injury prone. Still i'm inclined to think he would be a god player for Liverpool. I know it sounds weird and unrealistic but Liverpool should buy both Defour and Witsel. They are young, good and are used to playing with each other...but of course Liverpool already have quite a few central midfielders (and by that i mean AMF-CMF-DMF)...

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Adam Morgan scored again yesterday, 14 and counting...

There's no way that they can meet Financial Fair Play requirements adhering to the spirit of the rules, but their fans seem confident that they can get around it by using a loophole about 'supporting activities'. As I understand it, your revenue can include non-football related revenues as long as they are part of the supporting infrastructure. So, last I heard from a City fan, the Sheiks are going to fund a hotel and casino that is somehow connected to Eastlands, and revenue from that will be included, so they can meet their targets.

Put it this way, before signing Dzeko/ Toure/ Kolarov etc, their entire revenue didn't even cover player wages. That's just insane.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

I was reading redanders blog (the manu fan that is a financial adviser) last week and he had a post that had UEFA stipulating that revenue from non directly related football business (hotel, casino, convention centre) will not be accepted in the overal calculation.

My mistake, when those facilities are close enough they are added:

http://andersred.blogspot.com/2011/04/financial-fair-play-crunching-numbers.html

A casino is a great one, just let the Sheik place a 10mil bet on nr 0 and the casino has a good year again.... :(

You would wonder though how profitable these business' are to be able to balance the books of a club like City.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

i would like to see him back, would deffo add quality to the team/squad

which is what we need.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

yes definetly.. but that depends a lot if Juve want to buy him from us and for how much..

couse he said somewhere he would prefeur to stay in Italy over return to Liverpool..

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Yeah it really comes down to Juve I think. If they do exercise option to buy him, well then, that's that... he's gone and it's a shame because Liverpool and EPL fans apart from a few glimpses here and there didn't see just how talented this guy is! Their loss is Juve and Serie A's gain. Though I'd like to see him return to his beloved Roma especially after recent take over.

And if not and he returns, which is something I'd like to see under Dalglish then I'd build a team around him. Put him in the center and make him the playmaker, tell other players to give him as much of the ball as possible. In a way like Blackpool do with Charlie Adam. I don't think he'll be as injured next season (hopefully) anyway and when he's not on the field, Pool can use other systems like without true playmaker like they do now let's say with Lucas, Meireles, Gerrard and wingers each doing their part and contributing passes/movement different ways.

The guy's a super player when confident and at ease with environment (feels loved, appreciated) and I've always been a fan of him since his Roma debut. People always think about his injury problems but the even bigger thing with Alberto is the confidence thing. Just like Torres and many other good players, he's NOT a naturally cocky/competitive/winner type of guy, he's a little more timid. They need the right encouragement, support, faith from manager, etc. and when they do get it, you see just how quality they are!
I hope for Liverpool and EPL fans sake, he does return (though I don't think it's that likely) and they do get to see what he's capable of.

Amen to that.

In that case, I would expect him to be far more comfortable with Kenny around than Rafa. Hope he does come back tbh, With Gerrard getting more and more injured, or older, and Spearing not adding much in attack you would think that group of CM's and injuries would mean most of them will be getting enough play time.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Well, you could have read the article and put a more proper title, instead of just copying a lying title. Aquilani didnt say that not even once.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

He said that his preference is to stay and wing things in Juventus. That ´s not the same than saying "dont send me back to Liverpool".

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Liverpool secure record kit deal.

22/04/2011 - 09:01

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has urged that money be made available for summer spending after the club secured the biggest kit deal in English football history. The £25m-a-year contract with Boston-based Warrior Sports more than doubles Liverpool's present agreement with Adidas and demonstrates the value of the New England contacts of the new owners.

Adidas which launched a new away kit last week as part of a £12 milliopn a year contract with the club had the chance to match the American company's offer. However, they were not prepared to meet the price. It's a big blow to Adidas as only Real Madrid sell more branded shirts than Liverpool.

Warrior is a subisdiary of New Balance, a company best known for its running shoes. Liverpool's owner, Fenway Sports Group, have become increasingly close in recent months to Jim Davis, the chairman nof New Balance. It has entered into a multi-year partnership with the Boston Red Sox including a kit deal and a $1m fee for an illuminated logo inside Fenway Park, the home of the Red Sox.

Warrior has been best known up to now for its association with the game of lacrosse which has Native American origins. It is little known in Britain, but is played at top girls' schools like North London Collegiate and is popular at the better universities.

Whatever the link up does for lacrosse, it is solved the short-term cash flow problems at Liverpool caused by a likely failure to qualify for the Champions League.
