Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Word of praise for Spearing too, he was immense today and played like a younger Gerrard at times.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Spearing has a place in the squad, i always liked his play, movement and passion...something more players should learn from him.. but then again he is Liverpool lad.. so it´s a different approach to wearing the shirt than for example Torres ...

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Anyone see the interview on the bbc site? It's in the match report. Kind of get the impression that the owners have someone else (not Kenny) lined up for the summer.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

The interview with Kenny? He's not going to say one way or the other if he's got the job until the owners make it official.

A journalist from the Telegraph spoke to Henry after the match:

RSTelegraph Rob Stewart
Just spoken to #LFC owner John W Henry in Stadium of Light tunnel. Cards close to chest on Dalglish future cos 'it's the Liverpool Way'

I'd be surprised if Kenny doesn't get the job full-time, it's not like many people are going to have a better record than he's had so far, with the same amount of respect Kenny gets from the players and fans, and someone who gets the club like Kenny does.

Edit: Just watched the Kenny interview and he seems quiet downbeat considering we've just won and he's usually a lot happier anyway. The way he talks about the job is quite ominous though, you may be right. Rory Smith, who's usually very reliable, does claim that talks are underway with Kenny for a 2 year contract though.

Lets hope he still is a genius after he leaves. Not take flak like the likes of Torres,Mascherano.I just cant get enough.............

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

The Guardian:

On the subject of Dalglish's next contract, Henry proved slightly less forthcoming. "We are working on the future," he said. "But what is going on in that regard is private. It is something called the Liverpool way. You do these things behind closed doors. I am not going to talk about these things, but Kenny Dalglish has done very well."

He knows it is not Dalglish's fault Liverpool will struggle to finish fifth and thereby secure England's final Europa League place. "We will have to have a lot of days like today to do that," said Henry. "Tottenham are in fifth and they look very good so we will have to play extraordinarily well. But we will do our best.

"To have a shot at fifth we will have to win when Tottenham come to Anfield. But our mood is all very positive. Someone was saying that people weren't happy here last autumn, but I think people are happier now."

The Telegraph:

“What is going on in that regard is private,” Henry said. “It is something called the Liverpool Way and you do these things behind closed doors. I am not going to talk about these things. He has done very well.” Henry had a veiled dig at Dalglish’s predecessor, Roy Hodgson, when asked if there had been a change in mood since his takeover. “Absolutely, it’s all very positive,” he added. “Someone was saying that people weren’t happy here. But I think since that person left, people are happier.”

We've definitely came out of the Torres deal with the better hand in my opinion. Not only did we get £50m for him, we've replaced his goals with Suarez and the team is united again and they all seem happier. Look at the goal celebration yesterday, or any celebration since he left. I'm sure Kenny has played a massive role in bringing the squad together but Torres wasn't getting along with some players and he said himself that the atmosphere wasn't great. Hopefully Suarez will stay with a smile on his face and not turn into "The Incredible Sulk" that Torres become.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Glad it wasn't just me that thought that watching the interview.

The thing is though, does Kenny fit in to the bigger plans FSG has for the club? With that I'm talking about a progressive young manager that will develope the squad/club for the next 5-10 years.
With a couple of managers being available in the summer they might be looking elsewhere. Van Gaal will quit Bayern in the summer (although I think he was going to retire). Maybe the lure of Liverpool and his wish to always develop teams is a perfect fit that he can't resist. Mourinho will be free again, although I would expect him to take over at Utd if they get nr. 19. And he's not really a manager that developes imo. Deschamps has come out about being positive towards Liverpool.

Short term Kenny is a perfect fit, but I'm not sure he fits in the plans for the next decade. He'll be 70 by the end of it.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

I agree. Kenny looks good for now and it's so great to see him on the sidelines. Such an icon and a good man and a great communicator. Very articulate and speaks with such poise and sense. You can see he's a man of values. I like him a lot but yeah he might be good for short-term and to stabilize club and save Liverpool from the horrendous season it looked like it might be at some point early on. But whether he's the man to take the club forward and challenging for title hopefully in near future again, I don't know...

There are better options likely to available in summer, one being Didier Deschamps as you mentioned... up and coming... young yet vastly experienced, done it all as a player and a very good resume as a manager too, organized, determined, tactical... he'd be a good fit and I can see that happening. Then again with Ancelotti probably leaving and his small Chelsea roots, they'll probably be in for him as well.

In regards to van Gaal, yeah he'd be good. And no he wasn't gonna retire. He'd originally said that he wants like a year off after his Bayern contract ends (next year) and then would like to take over a national team. But of course now he's being let go of a year earlier and his plans have changed.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

André Villas-Boas would be a good choice. Young, looks very much in the Mourinho mould (having been his assistant at Porto, Chelsea and Inter) and has transformed this Porto team into a potential dark horse in Europe.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Any Italian's in here know how much Juve are likely to be splashing out this summer?

Time to bring him back up again but I'm quite hoping that they don't have the cash to keep Aquilani permanently.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Agree. Think him, Gerrard and Meireles will be a great trio to rotate. Read somewhere (might have been here) that Juve didn't want to pay the 15/16mil agreed. He will have had a full season aswell. Having him combine with Suarez and Meireles would be really good. I think it will be more down to whether he wants to go back to the UK.

Latest was they are not willing to fork out the agreed fee and are looking at alternatives(Pirlo).I would be delighted tbh.On regards to getting a better deal out of the Torres sale, sorry Dags, dont think we did.Nothing can justify selling a world class record breaking goal scorer for someone(heskey+crouch=caroll) with 10(?) premiership career goals.Dont forget,Suarez deal was done before we let Torres go.Imagine Torres and Suarez. Now imagine Suarez and Caroll.Ask anyone in the world who they'd prefer.I know which i would.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Just to add, over the years we've lost Xabi,Mascherano,Torres.3 world class players.Spine ripped out.Now with Reina making the wrong or rather not the right noises,i wonder why world class players are ditching us.And the constant link to Charlie "Jesus" Adams worries me.If i was Reina and told "hey we've lost all them 3 but we're gonna get Charlie though",as quickly as a wheelchair down a ramp,im gonzo......

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

OptaJoe Opta Sports
125 - @LucasLeiva87 has made more tackles for Liverpool than any other player in the Premier League this season. Combative.

That's what I've been saying for ages. Plus I would love to see a trident attack formed by Suarez, Carroll and Hulk instead of a more traditional winger type like Sanchez or Young.

The latest reports suggest that the Agnelli family is only willing to pay for the 50 % of Juventus bill. I honestly dont know if they have the money to afford Aquilani. The thing is that there are a lot of players in Juventus on loan, their team next year is going to be very different to the current.
He could go to Milan though.

We don´t know that, he is good coach but Kenny needs to be here just right now, for a year more and then we will see...maybe even longer...just look at the results with the squad he has got left by Hodgson...how we turned it around and talk about possible top 4 finish.. I remember i was seriously affraid we get relegated with Hodgson...I would keep Kenny in this phase of rebuilding, he knows. Kenny also had to deal with with Torres wanting out and he deal with it amazingly... I wouldnt be so sure owners knew he will go for sure, becouse most of all they bought Suarez to partner Torres and himself admited he came also becouse he wanted to form a duo with Torres.. But it was Torres who escaped...and good for us.

Personally I'd offer Kenny the 2-year contract and go from there.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

I agree. Plus, there is no point in having signed him Carroll if then you are not going to renew his contract. And for the job he has been doing, he clearly deserves a new contract.
I often dont like old managers, because I find a lot of them stubborn and outdated. But, he has showed so far that he can be a Ferguson type of manager.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

From the Utd thread:

United: 1st 11 cost £92.3m bench £40.8m Total £133.1m

Arsenal: 1st 11 cost £60.8m bench £5m. Total cost £65.8m

Chelsea 1st 11 cost £166.1m & bench cost £102.4m. Total cost £268.5

citeh 1st 11 cost £181.7m & bench a further £56m. Total £237.7m

Scousers 1st 11 cost £116.1m & bench was £10m. Total £126.1m

Spurs: 1st 11 cost £73m, bench cost £49m. Total £121m.

Shows how cheap Liverpool's 1st team is, and how poor the squad is. 60mil was spent on the front two, 10mil on Kuyt, 18mil on Johnson and 12 on Skrtel and Agger and 6mil on Lucas.
