Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

DagsJT, still..

we have players that should be fighting, nevermind the things, this is like another competition, a competition that has nothing to do with Premier League..

this players get paid milions but they do shit about that...

Before the rebuilding we should have problems to keep Reina.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

I do understand your frustrations, but apart from better control of the ball (first touch was awful), there wasn't much else Liverpool could do.

Braga played 4-1 4-1 (effectively five in midfield) and they didn't have to score.
Liverpool were never going to be able to play through them with Braga's system, so the long diagonal ball was one of the few options available, I'm sorry to say.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

We don't want the Lucas, we want the Gerrard, or the Torres, we don't want the Lucas, or a Krygiakos

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

I think anyone would play better than how Joe Cole is playing. You cant get worse than that.

Poulsen?
Konchesky?
Diouf?
Cheyrou?
Traore?

I do agree wiht dags, having seen the match i was shocked by Liverpool's stereotypical way of attacking. It seems as if with Caroll in the team there is no Plan B. I know Suarez wasn't there which could have changed a lot. Still i'm not impressed by Caroll.

On the bright side: Braga don't have the biggest name, but they have a very good team. The way they defended yesterday was class.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

wiki said:
As of the 2009–10 season qualification for the UEFA Champions League changes, the top four teams in the Premier League qualify for the UEFA Champions League, with the top three teams directly entering the group stage. Previously only the top two teams qualified automatically. The fourth-placed team enters the Champions League at the play-off round for non-champions and must win a two-legged knockout tie in order to enter the group stage.[23] The team placed fifth in the Premier League automatically qualifies for the UEFA Europa League, and the sixth and seventh-placed teams can also qualify, depending on the winners of the two domestic cup competitions. If one of the cup winners qualifies for Europe through their league position, the sixth-placed team in the Premier League will qualify for the Europa League. If both of the cup winners qualify for the Champions League through their league position, the sixth and seventh-placed teams in the Premier League will qualify for the Europa League. If either domestic cup competition is contested between teams outside the top four league positions, the winner will automatically qualify for the UEFA Europa League regardless of their final league position.

So if Utd or City win the FA Cup, 6th place will also be Euro qualification. And we also have the fair play league, although Arsenal moaning might have knocked England out of the top 3 ;)

Interesting - does that mean all the world of punditry/ media are wrong in thinking that the FA Cup runner up gets the place if the winner is in the CL? That's how it used to work, but maybe it's changed?

So Birmingham have definitely taken the 7th spot, meaning that the 6th will go to the 6th place team if City or United win the FA Cup?

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

I did get it from Wiki, so not sure how reliable it is. However I do remember reading something along the lines that runner's up in cup comp get nothing.

In regard to punditry, obviously they know f#$k all anyway. However regarding the reporting for Liverpool today and not making Europe, my impression was that it would be odd to say Liverpool are out of Europe unless... At the moment they are out of Europe for next season.

Although I'm also reading that Stoke/Bolton will get the last EL berth by finishing runners-up to a CL team...

Alexis on the other hand is gonna cost a fortune whoever does get him. 25Million or up I think. Maybe even something crazy like 30-35 million. We'll see though...

Agreed. I have a feeling he might decide to stay too... but if not, £25m+, easily.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

About pundits.
I watched Liverpool's match on Belgian television.
One of the pundits said that Liverpool's most important player was Dirk Kuyt. I have a lot of respect for Kuyt i think he is underestimated, but IMO he is not Liverpool's most important player.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

I think the pundit got confused with minutes played = importance.

Kuyt is a reliable player and has his value, however he will never be a creative force. And anyone expecting that is a fool. Liverpool were crap because they had.....I don't know actually. Did Liverpool have a creative player in the team last night? And Cole doesn't count....as he's crap.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Maxi should be more creative than he has been really.

Reina is by far our most important player (Skrtel and Lucas follow)...before it was him and Gerrard, before that Gerrard and Torres.

He was siting on bench. (Pacheco)

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Don´t be fooled thinking i fancy him becouse he is Slovakian...but simply he is most consistant player who played in all matches in Premier league and not played only one match in Europa league from start (Sparta away - he came on later) Currently our best CB. Yes i think so, becouse Agger is not consistent enough, always plays few matches and get´s injured again...

Personaly i don´t understand all the critics against Skrtel...without any personal view, looking at him just as player.. he isn´t that bad...Kenny playes him and belives him, he is the only player yesterday that was trying actually not to hoof but for long passes.. and he help to keep clean sheet... He was playing the libero yesterday and he was the last man on field in many passes (mostly back passes from Wilson), before Reina of course..

Many say that we should sell him... As crazy as it seems for some other fans i say we should buy a partner for him, best would be Cahill from Bolton...

I still think Agger is better player technicaly than Skrtel... but not better in terms of injurys and consistency. That´s shame realy.. becouse if not injured, Agger would be one of world´s best CB. And we need a consistent partnership...

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Never a penalty but I'll take that as karma for the beachball incident.

Up until then Sunderland were just so much better with their workrate and general ability in knocking it around. Comparing that to us who couldn't string together more than five passes, refused to move towards the ball so it was constantly being intercepted and Carroll/Suarez yet to form a partnership and understanding of where each other are likely to be.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

It's hard decision - but for the linesman to over-rule the ref, he has to be 100% sure. And given that it definitely wasn't a penalty, one does wonder...

Liverpool very, very fortunate so far. Then again, Sunderland haven't created any actual chances with all their posession.

Decent match. I do wonder if Lucas has stolen Alonso's old magic ward that prevents yellows being given for fouls. He commits about 3 identical to Cattermole's, and Lee is booked with the first one. Maybe the difference was Suarez's (typical) rolling around.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Well as it stands at half time, we have certainly been given a big favour by the linesman, and the ref giving cattermole a yellow for accidently stepping on suarez's foot! TBH we need all the help we can get at the mo.

EDIT- i will be suprised if this game finishes with 22 players on the pitch.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Suarez is a genius :D

For him to be showing so much skill and potential so soon, in a league where some doubted he'd be good enough for, just superb.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

And after all that, a groin problem. Hopefully it isn't that bad.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

19 points from the last 24 now.

At least people have now stopped saying that they don't see what difference Kenny has made that Roy wasn't doing.

Also:

#Liverpool are now on 23 points in 2011 only Manchester United have picked up more points this calendar year (25). #lpfc #LFC #mufc

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

You beat me to it Pipa :APPLAUD: Right lets go!:BOP:

We were a lot better the second half, hope suarez is ok after going off,btw what a bit of class he is.

Carroll must score soon, unlucky to have his header cleared off the line.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Good performance in the end. Was worried with a midfield of Lucas and Spearing, with Meireles pushed out wide, but Sunderland hardly created anything. Even though the partnership is still being formed, and Carrol looks like he still needs to get back up to speed, they do look good together. Most of the time it was just them, with either Kuyt or Meireles trying to push up, but between them they were always dangerous. I think the difference is what makes it work. Hit it high to Carrol and he can keep possesion or knock it on for Suarez and then he can dribble and leave a player for dead. Or he picks it up and runs forward and combines play, or goes wide. The pair of them do give a lot of options now.

@ Dags, said the same thing when watching the game, within 5 games he has already become the single most important (attacking) player in the team. And his mentality ( you could see him giving Carrol a bollocking in the 1st half) makes you think he will be a leader on the pitch. Really impressed so far.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

God, I really can't wait to see who we sign in the summer.

Opinion on Commoli is split. Personally, I always thought the players he signed for Spurs had plenty of potential and all the right attributes. Some failed, Some succeded, but at least they always had something about them; technique, pace.

No doubt Kenny has input into the whole process, and I trust his judgement on players more than most.

We're being linked with players like Sanchez, Hazard (probably a Gerrard heir) and Marin. Just what we need.

There is still a core nuculeus of very tactically and positionally astute players here that if supplemented with a bit more pace and trickery, will challenge. It's gonna be tough with the emergence of City and Spurs. I'm encouraged by Kenny's willingness to give the young lads a chance too.
