Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Talent isn't everything though. A number of scouts and managers have said that a big reason for the lack of English players coming through youth systems is that even though they have the talent to make it, they don't have the discipline and they get distracted by the money/cars/girls.

Whether something like that is happening with Pacheco, who knows? But something is definitely holding him back. It's not like Kenny's adverse to giving youth a chance either.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

KD on Glen Johnson: "People were saying he can't defend but I've seen one person go past him since I was here, and that was me in training."

 What have I done...

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

I didn't realise that Torres was THAT important for Liverpool and the fans.
Let it go...it's supposed to be about Liverpool and not about other players or other teams.

The really, really important player you lost was when Xavi Alonso left...that was the big blow for Liverpool, not Torres...

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Alonso wasn't a huge player for us during his time here, it was only his last season that he played so well but before that he wasn't that good.

Alonso was a good passer n got a few long shot too! more than 2 is not luck just good business. You gotta respect a player that comes back to watch a Liverpool match. You wont see masch about I bet ,but will kiss the badge (TOOL). I understand Pool fans mad at Torres I wonder was it a dubious tap up again.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Just to clarify it:
Im a big fanatic of Xabi Alonso. My comment was a joke towars this xaBi alonso. I dont know why a lot of people make that mistake.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

People seem to do that with David Silva and David Villa as well. I've had to do a double-take on many occassions when certain commentators were convinced that Spain's joint highest goalscorer was playing for Man City.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

If you listened to the Rafa interview posted here not long back, he didn't try to sell Alonso so it was a straight swap with Barry. He needed to improve the squad in general and our lack of money was obvious.

So after looking through the squad, he decided that Alonso hadn't played that great so far but would still raise a lot of money, enough to bring in a number of players to replace one single player.

Obviously the Alonso sale didn't go through and he put in his best season for Liverpool after that. Before that, he wasn't even half as respected by people. So it's easy in hindsight for people to go on about how good Alonso is now but if he was sold at the time, nobody would've batted an eyelid.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Barry is a fine player, but him replacing Alonso, would be a step sideways or even backwards.

Barry is a solid
player but a bit of a step down from Alonso.

aaron lennon would be a far better buy than barry

Not that convinced about Barry yes he has been good for Villa but if given the choice would still pick Xabi over Barry dunno why though!!

I'd have Alonso over Barry anyday. Barry is over-hyped just because he is an England international.

Alonso > Barry

TBH, I don't really understand why they would want someone like Barry instead of Alonso. Very strange...

You lot dont need Barry and that is a fact...The lot you have in the middle of the park speaks enough for the team, without adding Stevie G in it.
I put two of mine in to emphasise that was my opinion back then and still is...

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Completely missed the point of my last post

Again, then. The squad needing improving. He needed to raise funds. The best player he could sell to generate the best funds with minimal impact to the squad was Alonso. Selling him would've helped us buy Barry and other players with that money.

Sell one player, buy more than one player to strengthen squad. Not selling one player to buy one player.

Also Rafa mentions that he wanted to replace a foreign player and bring in an English player due to the new rulings. And that Barry can play in multiple positions so would be a flexible player to have in the squad.

It made sense at the time, it seemed crazy after Alonso had such a great final year, it makes sense now when you think back to Alonso's previous two years. If we had money to improve the squad without having to sell, I doubt Alonso would've been sold.

agree with DagsJT, not to mention Barry was consistant very good for Aston Villa then, i thought he would be great if we sign him..

I totally agree with you.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Always find it cringeworthy when people record themselves singing songs like that, skipped in and saw him recording playing his guitar and turned it straight off

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Some people really have too much time on their hands.

Anyway,

Don't really know why the Deschamps stuff is being mentioned in the news. Guess there was nothing to talk about re Liverpool and they had to do something.

It was all over the place in the summer. With both Deschamps and the Marseille director talking about it, saying exactly what he is saying now.
