Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Yeah sunday could be quite an interesting match. Although I do think Chelsea will win it, I'm curious ro see how the team is tactically set-up. So far we have had "easy" games in that Liverpool were the ones to take the game to the opposition and have a mostly attacking outlook. Missed most of the Wolves match so not sure how it went when drawing.

Chelsea on the otherhand you would expect a more defensive and tactical approach, should be interesting to see how much Kenny goes into it, or if he keeps a postive footballing tactic going and only gives individual defensive instructions. Not really sure how good he is in that department, as I assume the first time he was manager Liverpool were always the dominant team and dictated play. I'd settle for a 0-0 atm.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

I can see the Chelsea game going either way really. Agree with Tik in that we've mostly played teams where we've been expected to take the game to them but this will be different.

In saying that, Kenny said in the conference this morning that he goes out to win games and he doesn't see why that should change. And he's always managed like that really, Liverpool were known for having teams worried about us attacking rather than us worrying about how to approach the game.

I'll say 1-1 or 2-1 Chelsea, there's definitely going to be goals in it. I borrowed RuneEdge's crystal ball and it told me so.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

I agree, what a breath of fresh air he is. Can you remember a couple of days ago before the torres transfer - when asked about torres being sold and 2 minutes before having already answered those questions he said something like " I know my english isnt the best but i have already explained the clubs position"

You can tell he is loving it,and so am i.

Also those pics from the link inspired me to do this....

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

So Torres then, is he going to get stick on Sunday or will it be divided?

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

I don't think any Liverpool fans will show him any respect. Whether he gets booed or not, probably.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

The fact that we got replacements in right away might actually make it half-half.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Sunday's match is unmissable. Will be an epic, I can't wait :D

and I'm all for Liverpool on this one!

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

my bet is he won´t play...and if he does, i hope LFC supporters will speare the power to support our team 100% without noticing traitor.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Ello Lads,

Cautious optimism, it's my default setting for anything to do with Liverpool.

Torres - I'm split down the middle. I can understand him wanting to leave, maybe last summer or this coming summer, not now. His little dig "I'm at a top club now" was basically going back on him talking about how special Liverpool are, a global historic institution with recent triumphs to boot. It will be easier for the man to win trophies at Chelsea, but he's taking the easy way out. Chelsea are EXPECTED to win everything in sight with the resources that have, resources that have been thrust upon them withour earning it. Torres has made a step down in his career, it's a less supported club, a less famous club, and a club that like Livepool, will need to go through a transitional stage.

However, the man did wait for several seasons to be surrounded with more quality, he actually cried out for a player like Tevez who can play the lines, just as Suarez can and WILL do. But it never really came. If Torres doesn't have faith that the new owenrs, the current players, and the coaching setup are unable to restore Liverpool to a position were were in only 2 seasons ago, then it is up to us, as a club to prove him and everyone else who wants to take a swipe at our "fallen giant" status.

Personally, the whole thing has reinvigorated my passion for LFC. Kenny coming in and bringing back the old ways of the boot room, pepping up the crowd and marking down a signal of intent. We WILL attack you, and Liverpool football club will move forward as a unit, not as a disjointed team that relies on having the marque players to pull us through any trouble.

Whatever happens on Sunday, Torres could well score, the boy could absolutley light up his career with the service he will receive, but whatever happens, we shouldn't let it get on our backs. Shout and sing about LFC, that will make him think twice about what he's going to miss out on. We reached two Champions League finals without Torres, and we can do that again. We ARE coming up the hill, whatever happens on Sunday.

Carrol was expensive, but that money was to ensure we got him. Our net spend is tiny, the price for Torres was fantastic, and the spending won't end in the Summer. Carroll realises the belief certain people have in him to recognise and realise his MASSIVE potential. He IS a cocky player with an arrogant swagger about him, he will offer us something different, he will fight, put himself about and will absolutley bully defenders, something Torres often relied on others to do for him to operate at his best. The best thing is that Suarez will take the pressure off Andy. And when defenders are worrying about Andy's presence, you've got one heck of an intelligent, clever, leathel striker waiting to exploit that.

Last night -

Agger is thriving under Kenny. Lets use him like we should. Lucas was absolutley immense. Not really a bad performance from anyone, and I think we have some gems waiting to get into the match day squad. Shelvey has something about him, he's 18 and yet looks so comftable on the ball and has this really arrogant flair about him. Sterling (16) and Suso have been called into the first team squad.

I think we need quality wingers in the summer, and then we are set to challenge for things again. But how many times have I said that about wingers?

It is just my opinion but I don't think you need wingers at all. If you get a striker like, let's say, Hulk, who is capable to play from the wings to inside, you will be a serious title contender. I wonder if you had a line with 3 strikers with Carroll upfront and Suarez and Hulk coming from the left and the right to the middle, respectively.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Javier Mascherano claims Liverpool did not show interest in keeping him or Fernando Torres at the club.

Mascherano, who secured a move to Barcelona at the start of the season after refusing to play against Manchester City, was heavily criticised for his actions as Liverpool were seemingly forced into accepting his departure.

However, after Reds fans burned Torres shirts following his £50 million move to Chelsea on Monday, Mascherano has spoken up in defence of his former team-mate.

"I was not surprised about what happened with Fernando," he told a press conference. "When I left Liverpool, it looked as if I killed someone. It is sad that the people who did something important with the club have to leave by the back door.

"It is sad that the press and the club try to convince people that it is all the player's fault when the reality is that Liverpool didn't show the interest in keeping us in the club. The most important players didn't leave the club well.

"I spoke with Fernando and I said to him that he doesn't have to be worried because he did his best for the club. Even though he didn't win any trophies, he was a very important player and helped this club all the time."

Following Torres' sale, Kenny Dalglish said he felt players now had more power than the clubs in transfer matters.

"Maybe it would be better for everyone if there was a more even share of responsibility and power," he said. "In years gone by, the club had it all. Now it has maybe gone a wee bit towards the players."

He added: "The most important people at the club are the ones who want to be here."

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

the difference is he left while we were lead by Roy Hodgson, who also let Aquilani and Insua go on loan.. and i doubt he did not wanted him to stay..

I knew from start that he will not play there ahead of Busquets..

but now it´s not the time to talk about him, i prefeur we talk about those who want to play for this club.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Well if you'd read Plech's "All turn to Kopites 26, 1-40", it's not that far-fetched a comparison. :D

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Football is a religion, a religion that the common man CAN actually indentify with, because it encompasses comaradery, tribalism and competition.

Liverpool FC for me, and many foreign observers (more so than domestic) is the most fanatical of these mini religions in this nation, and that boils down to a sense of working class values, playing football the right way, and a union between the Manager/Players/Fans - the Holy Trinity!

There isn't anything wrong with it. Fernando Torres has moved to a club with a significantly lower level of success, support, passion and aura. However, he is a modern day footballer, his CV will be handed in on "judgement" day, and it will read some of the biggest employers in World football, and the biggest trophies in world football.

But in my biased, humble opinion. He wasn't up for the fight, he didn't want to work for the Liverpool cause, he wants success the easy way, which he probably will receive. The Liverpool cause you ask? Well...itss getting back to dominating domestic and european football, and making people fear and admire Liverpool Football Club, which will ultimately bring joy to everyone involved with the club.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

good posts mate, imo the owners just came and there is already a LOT they chainged

this is just half year less than that..

i think our main point is to go to top 4 and to somehow build a new stadium in next 5 years.. we have to build new or re-build anfield if we wan´t to progress as a club..

short term aim is to win europa league and finish in top 6.

I don't get this needing to convince him to stay, forget that. If he needs convincing to stay at Liverpool then he shouldn't have been there. And the same goes for Mascherano.

Never has the phrase "No player is bigger than the club" been more appropriate when discussing a player thinking he should be talked into playing for Liverpool.

Disgusting.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

It's as if they wanted Liverpool to beg them to stay....

Did'nt Masch want to quit 1 year ago...and Rafa convinced him to stay...

And Torres....he left after saying few weeks ago he would stay....

I see a funny pattern....
Owen left Liverpool....and we won the CL...and reached another Final.

Torres left Atletico...and they won the Europa beating us in the semis...
Atletico won more trophies than Liverpool did when Torres was with us..
They got Forlan ...and he turned in his best form ....
(hoping Suarez...another Uruguayan does the same for us...)

Now Torres has left to win trophies at Chelsea...
...could we be on to winning something big soon....

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Well i know this is not going to happend but it would be amazing if we manage to get 4th place and Chelsea 5th..

There is an interesting point in this article.....that the owners
were lowballing Ajax, Blackpool for a while....
and it was only after Chelsea were interested, did we see some desperation
to make big signings...although Blackpool still refused a 10m price on Adam.

Which means our net spend was not too much.....so the owners did better than hicks/gillett
who sold to pay off debts....

The summer will be interesting....will the owners actually spend money
without the need for further big money sales ....
I hope we get rid of konchesky, skrtel, poulsen, aurelio
and sign a new centre-back, (need a good proven signing....)
new left-back (get Insua back ?)
new left-winger, (Eden Hazard ?)
new right-winger (Arda Turan ?)
And promote Pacheco and Suso slowly...
Shelvey is a good backup for midfield...Wilson a good backup for the defence maybe...

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

@ Ryan,

Good link. It's actually interesting, and highlights the difference between a club like Chelsea vs Liverpool and Utd. Obviously he doesn't really get it and tries to take the piss, but you can't expect anything else when they support a club which has nothing memorable (in the broadest sense of the word) within it. Not to have a go at Chelsea, but everything about them is based on splashing cash and buying succes. Before that they were a relative non-entity.

What clubs like Utd and Liverpool have, which might be seen as religion to an outsider, is a bond that is far stronger then trophies. Both clubs have had their succes and both clubs have had their tragedies, and that and everything else was formed on the basis of local people. It gives them an identity usually formed in their youth and often based on family relationships.

It's what has formed the connection between the club and fans and makes the passion so strong, it isn't about football, it's far more then that. It's community, it's family, it's a sense of place / identity, etc. That's what the club and it's fans represent, it's why they get so hostile for anything that is seen as an attack (whether that's opposing fans or a manager demolishing what the club stands for).

That's why other people can't understand it, rationally speaking I find it ridiculous that the result of a football match can influence how I feel, yet it does. In the same way anyone attacking my family will also effect me, even if I didn't like my family....it's still family. That's how a lot of clubs work, in all scales and leagues, and why clubs like Utd and Liverpool attract the attention they do. And why clubs like Chelsea are now probably overrun with people who just like to wear a winners shirt but have no grasp of what the club is actually about.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Ruddy hell, how bout this from a Chelsea supporter to wind up the visitors this weekend: http://www.theleftback.co.uk/ValkysBlog.html
Doesn't look like much of a wind up to me. It's a rather interesting view and offers some perspective about supporting a football club. Sure fans say and believe the things that suit them more often than not but in Liverpool's case its truly remarkable.
I'd say his take on the special dislike that LFC fans have for CFC (new money et al) is very interesting.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

eh?

Skrtel is OK defender imo and Dalglish want him to partner Agger, if not we´d buy a defender already..I dont say this only becouse he´s my countryman..
Poulsen only getting better under Kenny and is good squad player..
Aurelio is our best LB and when fit maybe top 5 in EPL..

we already get rid of Konchesky btw.

Konchesky...i mean permanently...not just on loan..
Poulsen is an ok squad player....but he's getting old...
Skrtel is ok...but lousy distribution and has made some mistakes...
he can be a squad player if we cant find anyone else...
Soto should stay....

Cole will be gone in the summer....amazing that he has not played
under Kenny so far...
Jovanovic will be gone too....

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Konchesky won´t come back imo..

Poulsen if he steps up his game has few years in him, we need experienced players imo...i would not yet gave him away..he did ok in games under Kenny

Sktel makes same mistakes as others...Agger did them also few games now.. imo he has future in LFC..but we buy a defender or promote one from reserves..

Soto don´t have a reason not to stay :)

Cole has show nothing yet to prove his high salary..
Jova most probably will go, not shure if he wanted to stay and fight or for the salary..becouse he was wanted by Wolfsburg and maybe other teams..

names as Hazard is to soon to mention, but we might get some high talented players if we manage to stay in cup positions in the end of season...

i bet we have already lined up some talented players.. Comolli want some young players as Mvila and Lukaku, Hazard...but this are most bigest talents and we need to play for trophys to lure them...if they are not supporters :D
