Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

From @bojochris on Twitter:

Since Aug 2008 Suarez has scored 64 goals from 77 league apperances, 08/09: 22, 09/19: 35, 10/11: 7.

Of the 64 goals 42 were from open play, 17 penalties and 5 direct free kicks. Making just 66% of all league goals scored from open play.

Of the 42 goals from open play Suarez scored 31 with right foot, 5 with left foot, 5 headers and 1 with the body. All 22 dead balls with RF.

Of the 42 goals from open play 7 were from inside 6 yd box, 31 were between 6 yd box and 18 yd box, while 4 were from outside 18 yd box

Of the 42 goals from open play 23 were scored with 1 touch, 10 with 2 touches & 9 with more than 2 touches. 79% of gls with 1 or 2 touches.

Thats all on Suarez. Please note I've not covered 1st season at Ajax (07/08) due to lack of data + I'm going offline for a while aft tonight

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

agree but there is also some similar things in international football as well...

hing: Quatar NT for example...

Indeed. I guess we will see more flags of convenience players for Qatar certainly for 2022. They already have a South American strike force.

FIFA should have tightened the regulations but instead relaxed them.

Suarez is tough as nails at holding the ball and could be played out wide with Carroll as a target man. Gerrard in behind and Maxi on the other flank.

That's probably what i'd play tbh, but while Carroll's injured i'd play a front three of Suarez, Kuyt and Maxi (all three can interchange) with Meireles, Gerrard and Lucas behind them.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Jesus, i started something about Caroll.
All i wanted to say that it is a huge gamble, but to be honest i think Rooney was also a big gamble and most transfers are a gamble even those who seem without risk (remember Maradonna in Barcelona).

It's unfortunate that people complain about the fact that non Liverpool fans visit this thread. When i come here, it is because im' interested in Liverpool and in English football.
I've said in this thread that i realize i will never become a real fan, but the positive point about that is that i really can enjoy teams who play good football. Two seasons ago i really enjoyed Liverpool and i will be enjoying Liverpool in the future too. If Caroll turns out to be the transfer of the century i will be glad for you guys.

I like to discuss football but it is never my intention to be negative towards a club or a player.

Several shocks in the Liverpool team tonight. Stay logged on to .tv for team news first.

Interesting...

Today Suso and Stirling were given squad numbers...

Edit: Suarez not starting.

Confirmed team: Reina, Kyrgiakos, Skrtel, Agger, Kelly, Johnson, Lucas, Aurelio, Gerrard, Meireles, Kuyt.

Reliably informed Liverpool playing 5-3-2 with Aurelio in central midfield alongside Lucas and G

Weird. I remember Rafa tried Aurelio in centre-mid once, it didn't work out to be a great move.

@ Gerd,

We like you visiting the thread, it's the mostly utd fans (not all of the utd fans) who seem to think they need to piss on any positive post in the Liverpool thread that annoys us.

As for the formation, hmmmmmmm...

But I guess Kenny thinks we need a big defender with the quarterback playing (Delap)

To me the team is like this;

----------Reina------------
----Skrtel--Greek--Agger---
Kelly---------------Johnson
----------Lucas------------
---Meireles-----Aurelio----
---------Gerrard-----------
-----------Kuyt------------

Was making the formation and had Kuyt on the right of the 3 and then realised; 'Eh, we need a striker'. :D

Seems a very laboured formation to me.

No Delap tonight so not sure we need the defensive strength we've got now.

Pennant and Diao are playing though :D

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Atleast it means Suarez can come on if needed and add some spice. Looks like Ngog isn't showing much in training as he hasn't played since Kenny took charge.

Weird. I remember Rafa tried Aurelio in centre-mid once, it didn't work out to be a great move.

He played there a few times, played really well against West Brom (i think) in that position. The good thing about that set-up is that most of the players can play in more than one position so if it's not working they can switch around without needing a sub.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Skrtel making tackles 20 yards out, Agger constantly in the opposition half bringing the ball out, Johnson in the box winning headers. A good example of how much more fluid and adaptable our team is now under Dalglish.

Some of the passing and movement, as it's been under all of the games, is just a joy to watch. We're getting better each game and Lucas is running the show today with an excellent commanding midfield presence.

Kuyt playing well up front and doing a great job of winning headers to knock the ball down as well as holding play up.

Huth should've conceded two penalties for blocking off Gerrard, a booking for his tackle on Meireles, and then a possible red for his two-footed tackle on Kelly where he was eventually booked. Horrible player.

More of the same in the second half, although I can't see anyone playing poor enough to bring Suarez on. Let's see if anyone gets tired. And maybe Stoke might decide to move out of their half and help Carew, who's getting frustrated at the lack of support.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Yeah very good performance, not too many big chances created but the build up play is patient and on the floor. That last move with lucas doing some give and go through the middle was great. Possesion is being kept (although oddly enough it's only 52v48% on the bbc site) and Stoke haven't really done anything besides a few set pieces. Stoke were looking tired towards the end, so hopefully Liverpool can punish them in the 2nd half.

As for the penalties and red card, they would have been soft imo. Huth won the ball but followed through, although to me it looked more like momentum than actually going for the player. He was lucky Kelly is still so honest that he just spun and got up again to win the ball back. Had he rolled around a little he would probably have been off.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

not bad game at all, Kuyt is doing good job up front, we could have been one goal up...great save by begovic.. i like how we play now, with moving midfield...

Lucas by far best player in movement and passing..

Yes, every signing is considered a gamble one way or another, especially when you start to pay £20 million +.
But its up to the club to make a "smart" gamble, one where the fee and the quality of the player makes sense. When you start to push the £30m mark, you think of the likes of Berba, David Villa, and even Robinho. Sure Robinho didnt set off any fireworks at Man City but atleast you can see what the £30m+ was for. He's a young and very talented forward, who at one time was considered the brightest prospect in the world. His potential set his price tag.
You can say these players have something like 8 out of 10 chance of succeeding. So its still a "risk" seeing how its not impossible they'll fail. But its not a risk you wouldnt take.

Andy Carroll is the level of risk you'd never want to take. What has he ever done or shown that he'll ever justify his price tag?

The ironic thing is, have we heard this many people question Chelsea's decision to pay £50m for Torres? Yeah you get the odd few but the majority havent cared cuz atleast Torres has occasionally showed us signs that he can be the best striker on the planet on his day.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Anyone who thinks Carroll wasn't overpriced is a bit of a bellend. If Torres hadn't gone for so much, no way would we have paid that price. But we needed a striker, and it was deadline day so of course you're going to pay over the odds.

The fee was relative to various factors, the quality of the player being 1 or 2 down the list.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Suarez show some nice skill...i am very happy about how he came to the game and automaticaly we looked more dangerous...good things to come from him in future i belive.

nice and deserved 3 points

MOM - Kuyt, Lucas, Reina

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

:BOP:

Suarez looks like he's going to be a real handful, already full of confidence and pulling off tricks and running at defenders. And it was nice to get that sense of excitement again when a striker got the ball and you felt like he actually gave a shit and wanted to do something with it, and he can :D

Very pleased with the performance overall from all of the players. Players interchanged their positions with ease and it was exciting to watch.

Three wins on the run now, we're getting going and it's only going to get better in my opinion.

Not surprised to see the United fans back in here already either. Suarez scoring on his debut eh, whatever next?

MOTM was Lucas, followed closely by Kuyt (who looks far more comfortable up front considering he's not played there for so long).

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

He'll be called the new Cisse, that's what's next Dags ;)

@ Jumbo,

My bad, didn't realise he had already played that many matches, from memory he was signed after his first season.

And glad to see RuneEdge just ignore my post highlighting his nonsense and continue to bang on about Carrol being too expensive and formulate it as if we didn't already know it, which we all seem to agree on anyway. But apparently looking at the positive potential of it is a bad thing...

As for the match, another good performance and another improvement on the last one. I was getting worried when Stoke made their subs and started to get a foothold, reminded me of the Fulham match when they had to hang on. But instead, after 5-10min. Liverpool started to take control again and push for another goal.

Heh, touchy bunch aren't you lot.

The non-'Pool fans have barely mentioned Suarez in this thread.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Agree with PIPA though, why do non fans come in here?

Allow me to give my opinion, since I'm a non fan and don't give a damn about english footie lately, Manchester United and Fergie's 50 years in charge are just boring, nothing ever happens, Chelsea been pretty boring since Lampard played all games and they won that title, when was that by the way?

Only clubs that attract my opinion as a football fan is Arsenal, I'm often posting there and Liverpool cause they are a least trying, lots of controversial subjects happen over there, like the Rafa drama, the masses love drama!

Okay I'm being a bit offensive so far, but of course I'm joking, kinda of really cause that Carroll signing is a interesting subject, and Suarez well who never wanted to see him playing at top games, this guy always showed some serious potential and no club made the bet on him cause Ajax knew his real value.

Everybody loves Liverpool drama :P

But the whole easy money on english clubs are ruining my interest.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

And it might be childish of me, but I can't help but chuckle when you see Delap actually trying to play football. Only saw him twice after he came on, one was a dangerous throw-in, and that was followed up a few seconds later by him actually trying to kick the ball and failing miserably. :D
