Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

while Carroll is overpriced.....

but if you think......this is all because of the timing of Torres
transfer request....

If David Villa is worth 35m.....then no way is Torres 50m....

So it is really driven by the window.....and the last minute..

Carroll is young and compared to the alternatives .....
good choice....but worth 20m.......
But Torres is not worth 50m...

If we can get Young or Adam....then it will be great !!

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Remember the FFP rules come into effect in the summer. To sell Torres for £50m now, we just couldn't spend that much in the summer without it affecting our accounts and it wouldn't balance up at all in the Summer and the FFP regulations.

Carroll has submitted a transfer request, which Newcastle have accepted. I guess that's what Ashley was waiting for, so he can say "I never wanted to sell Carroll and that's why I kept refusing bids. But once he forced my hand with the request, I had to accept."

Same thing we'll do with Torres I guess, except Torres did actually want to leave anywhere whereas Carroll probably didn't.

Adam isn't sounding too likely though, and nothing on the Young front for a while either.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Yeah but for 40M for a player that isn't very good? he's got 11 in 20 games this season and last season didn't do much in the Championship.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

£35m.

That isn't very good?! :LMAO:

We could sign Zidane in his peak and United fans would be in here saying he's not good enough to get into Stoke's team :)

Nice try though.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Yes that's right Andy Carroll is in the same calibre as Zinedine Zidane. Carry on.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

£35M is something about 40M in euros right?

The player is quality but his value is insane!

Yep, something like that. It's a ridiculous price, definitely.

SSN now saying Adam is now travelling to Liverpool.

We really, really need a good winger though. Young hopefully coming in, more important to get him than Adam.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Adam is supposedly costing us £14m?!?!

Utter, utter madness!

From the Guardian:

5.33pm: More on the Fenway purchase of Carroll from Bobby Otter from the University of Chicago: "Actually you shouldn't be surprised by the Andy Carroll signing/offer/whatever it is right now. The Fenway guys just spent $142m on a left-fielder (Carl Crawford) over the next seven years and are going to resign a first baseman (Adrian Gonzalez) for probably about the same amount of money. So $56m for a young striker is next to nothing for these guys." Fair point, Bobby. Shall we leave Newcastle and Liverpool and Chelsea alone for a bit and look elsewhere?

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

All just blowin my mind a bit tbh. Adam @ £14m, Carroll at £35m...even Torres at £50m seems ridiculous.

If anything should cheer you up, it's that prices like that will keep United out of the market for years to come!

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Dags I think I better sleep now, this is too much for me @ 1 AM. I'll just wait till everything's over.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

i dont care of United personaly, they have the last to say something about overpriced transfers...

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

The owners haven't actually spend much when you look at it though. The whole net isn't going to be great when you consider the Torres sale.

It's nice to be able to sell a player and use all of that money on replacing that player though  :)

A lot of Torres leaving is because he kept getting promised we'd make signings to improve the squad and those signings never happened. Ironic that it's his sale that's meant the squad being improved so much

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

One of the most emotional and shocking January Deadline ... I still can't believe how we managed to bring Caroll in.
I'm happy though no matter the price we had to pay. Liverpool fans have to chill cos': HENRY KNOWS BEST WHAT HE'S DOING!!!
He's not as dumb as Man City Sheikhs !!
All we need now is Ashley Young and Charlie Adam to make CL a reliable target .... YES WE CAN , IN KING KENNY WE TRUST !!!

Pretty sure even without these transfers, your net spend since the prem started in 92 is higher than United's. And less than half of City (!!).

Anyway, if rumours are true and the Carroll deal is done (+ Suarez) what happens if Torres fails his last minute medical?

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

I don't understand this "Torres forced us to do it" thing some LFC fans are saying. Didn't he asked to leave after the Suarez deal? If anything, you already had a replacement and shouldn't be panicking like that.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Suarez isn't a natural replacement for Torres though, very much believe he was bought to play alongside Torres. Hence signing Carroll to replace Torres.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Yeah, Suarez definitely meant as a supporting player, not a line leading player.

A front line of he and Carroll would definitely be interesting - though service must be a concern given who will be playing on the wings.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

@TLDORC
Jack Pitt-Brooke
Henry selling big name player to fund replacements has precedence: in '04 the Sox sold Nomar Garciaparra and won the World Series.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Pffff,

What an insane day! The thing with Carrol is you are signing potential. It's definitly a gamble, but with the homegrown rule and the FFP rules it might be worth the extra 10mil to get it done today. I do think he will work better with Suarez than Torres though, or atleast the team will be better balanced and have more options. Not sure if they will be as dangerous overal. Time will tell. Shame we might not get a good winger, Young rumours are quiet atm.

I think Adam might be a critical signing with Carrol, his passing accuracy from deep will definitly make Carrol more dangerous.

What will also be interesting is seeing how Chelsea fit Torres in. I'm not sure about their tactics and how they correspond to the high, early pressure of Liverpool's, but we have seen how tough Torres has been to fit in. Hodgson couldn't get him to play, 2 strikers didn't work either, with Spain it's always him or Villa as they don't work together. So how will Chelsea fit him in with Drogba? And do they have the tactics to make him more dangerous? Liverpool's team and tactics were built around him and Gerrard and that made them as good as they were/are. Will Torres command the same influence in a team with Lampard, Drogba, Terry, etc?

After the timing, I hope he becomes the next Shevchenko tbh. Which is sad that it's gotten to this.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Bloody eck - Chelsea have agreed £25m deal with Benfica for Luiz. So they'll be spunking £75m of Roman's money in c. 5 hours.

Just...wow.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Ah, SSN saying Man Utd have matched Liverpool's bid for Adam. I'm sure someone laughed in here when it was suggested Ferguson was interested in him...

Absolutely zero mention of Young anywhere. Quite essential that we get a good winger in really, hopefully today but if not then it has to be in the summer.
