Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

£42m + Anelka = Torres or a straight £50m cash ??

Anelka is still 31 and I think he'd be a good choice to partner L.Suarez upfront ...
After making up my mind I realized that Torres move to Chelsea is not as bad as it seems but I'm afraid Chelsea won't be able to meet the asking price as there's not much time left until the January Deadline.
With the money we'll get from Torres' departure we could strengthen our defense which has traditionally been one of the weakest point on Liverpool team over the past decade.
There are times when not even the 2-men Dynasty (Torres & Gerrard) can do something about as u have some numb defenders who are always there to screw things up even at the time when the rest of the team is on fire.

42m + Anelka sounds good......he always loved playing for Liverpool
and Houllier never game him a fair chance....
he is mature and a cool finisher.....maybe not as fast as before...
but he has probably 2-3 years left in him....not ideal...but not bad
given the circumstances...and a good experienced striker to help
Suarez in the EPL...

Getting 50m at this point will not help...because who can we get
so late in the window ?
Keeping Torres till summer is a waste of time.....
all of Dalglish's work in uniting the squad will be down the drain...

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

@ besarti,

They haven't even been able to correctly calculate the pound/euro conversion. ;)

@ Kostaz,

I didn't imply, I said. How do you think Chelsea can sustain their succes the coming 3 years and beyond? My comparison isn't for next season and maybe the season after. But by the 3rd season and beyond they are f#$ked. You do realise the new financial rules that are coming into play?! Stating spending and player wages can only be a % of club revenue. Your revenue is - 74mil. Good luck with that!

Roman won't be able to go on spending spree's and spunk a few 100mil again. Besides, looking at the Forbes listed posted on the previous page you will do well to get the license whilst selling players! Take a look, the club has the worst revenue stream of every club, and the only reason your debt % is so low is because Roman decided to change his 500mil loan into shares. Liverpool's debt % has gone down from 47% to under 10% (I would assume) and they have a reasonable revenue stream. Which can get higher with the fanbase worldwide. And let's be clear, Chelsea's worldwide fanbase is based on succes, not history or tradition (which is one of the advantages Utd, Liverpool and to a certain extent Arsenal enjoy). The Chelsea fans will just as quickly jump ship to the next succesfull team, whoever that is.

That combined with Chelsea's very old 1st team and a lack of youth players and structural policy with the fact Roman can't be spunking huge amounts of money from next summer leads me to believe that a move to Chelsea is a pretty poor decision from Torres, he will have to win something next season or his chances will rapidly fall.

Liverpool's owners have already stated that they are following the Arsenal model (young players, good stadium) and the club has already started the youth policy under Rafa. Their revenue can only increase, with a bigger stadium planned and more commercial activities abroad. Getting Kenny can already be used for marketing imo.

So really, how can you see Chelsea being more competitive in 3 seasons time?

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

I knew it...Ferguson wants to get Adam....
no wonder he's putting his nose in between...

Adam said himself he don´t care for money of his transfer, he want to play on Anfield..

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

You're having a laugh!

This is the kind of reaction that is infuriating and that only comes from fanatics. This is a reaction without any form of argument.

As a matter of fact i tend to agree with tik concerning Liverpool which is still seen as the biggest English club on the continent...slightly bigger than Man Utd and certainly bigger than Chelsea. On the continent Chelsea are still the fifth English club.

1 Liverpool
2 Man Utd
3 Arsenal
4 Spurs
5 Chelsea

Liverpool is big because they are on of the alltime great clubs in the EC1 and CL and because recently they have won the CL (albeit a relatively freak win, just like the one that Man utd won against Bayern) and played finals.

I tend to disagree concerning Spurs (although i consider myself a Spurs fan), but i'm open for any form of argument (also from you by the way).

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Looks like Torres is training alone at Melwood. Seems he's already being cut off from the rest of the team.

Next year is probably your year too right?

Spare me the drama, you're intelligent enough to know that their sweet little 'istory has fuck all to do with the future of the clubs. Bring me back the Roman is getting bored crap over those delusions.

I've never siad that Roman is getting bored.
I've said that there is a danger that Roman will get bored. Chelsea are extremely dependand on Roman and that is not a good situation. The moment Roman came and when the Man Utd guy came to Chelsea, the target was always to become financially indenpendant of Roman. Chelsea never succeded in reaching that target.

Concerning Liverpool and Chelsea. I was one of the relatively few people that was glad with Roman' Chelsea, just like i'm happy with Man City as a rich club. But both clubs (and certainly not Chelsea, cfr. my previous paragraph) are much more vulnerable than tradition clubs like Liverpool or Man Utd.

Maybe another example will help you to see some reason.
Germany: Bayern Munich or Hoffenheim. Both clubs are rich.
As an investor in search for a sound investment, which club would you prefer: Hoffenheim or Bayern? Clearly Bayern i think.

I know Chelsea has (a litle bit) more tradition than Hoffenheim, but i still think the parallel is there.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

hoffenheim sold a few players btw the last time
hopp said that they need to to do it, he doesnt want to put money in the club anymore they need to be solid as a club alone

Afaik the last official info on our finances is as old as 3rd q 2009 a lot of things could have changed and I'm pretty sure that neither I nor you or even the press know a thing about how close we are to breaking even. For all we know Chelsea could be closer to breaking even than Liverpool are to challenging for the league.

Maybe another example will help you to see some reason.

I fail to see why we suddenly need investment having Abramovich as an owner.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

such a shame really. cant say he diddnt give you guys a go. he stuck by u lot through some bad times and i reckon he wants to go now because he cants ee liverpool progressing.

he deserves to win medals. his a fantatsic player when his in his mood. But he hasnt been happy at liverpool for ages. he use to be spains main striker but now david villa has taken that spot

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

What's the point of having him train seperately? Some teams do that when they're forcing the player out i.e. Lazio did that with Ledesma last season, but there's every chance he could stay beyond this transfer window, so why not keep him with the first team and attempt to persuade him to stay.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Well, i think that owners preapering something big. Few days ago, they said there is no way to sell Nando becouse he has to fill his agreement and we don't have striker like him. Now they saing that they can sell him... So ? I think they found someone to take his place and they want big money like 50 mln to buy good striker in last minute. But I think, if they won't get any striker to repleace Torres, they won't let him go to Chel$ea.

My take on this is Torres has never been the player he was ever since Rafa was backstabbed.Maybe he knows something we dont.Shame really, ever since Rafa was sacked,we've been looking a mid table side, linked with mediocre players(british) and we're looking to sign Charlie Adams FFS!I really fear for us.....

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

I don't want to sound naive but i think the reason for him training alone was more to do with fitness than anything else, he only got back from Spain this morning i think so he will have been assessed on his own with the medical team.

Tbf he hasn't really "stuck by" us through much hardship.

1st season (07/08) - his breakthrough season, scored 33 goals and we got to the Champions League semi-final and were very unlucky not to make it to the final thanks to a Riise own-goal. Qualified for the Champions League for the following season. Lets not forget that until he joined Liverpool he'd never even played in the Champions League before.

2nd season (08/09) - Had quite a few injuries, Liverpool had their best ever Premier League season finishing second on 86 points. During this season we had some massive memorable moments like beating Real 5-0 on aggregate, beating Man Utd 4-1 at Old Trafford and beating both United and Chelsea home and away. Got to the Champions League quarter final in an epic which ended 7-5 on aggregate to Chelsea

3rd season (09/10) - the first bad spell, everything went wrong this year as the battle between the manager and the owners exploded and the fans did all they could to get rid of H&G. Rafa took his eye off the ball because of the problems with the owners and the team suffered. Still got to the Europa League semi-finals (and were robbed in the end by the ridiculous away goals rule which shouldn't count in extra-time imo). Torres also missed most of the season through injuries.

Then on to the current season, things started really badly under Hodgson and never really improved until he went. But with new owners and no debt the club is clearly on the up again, Kenny had instantly changed the style of play and there's confidence in the team again. We've just added Luis Suarez to compliment Torres's style of play. Still in the Europa League (and with a relatively easy draw in the next round) so the season isn't over yet.

Last season was a disaster we can all see that, but due to the fact that he missed large portions of the last two seasons i think he owed us at least one more full season and especially now that the owners are backing up their claims by bringing in quality players i think he's in too much of a rush to leave and should at least stay for the remainder of this season to see just how much we can improve. I know people say he's 26 and can't afford to wait, but i'm sorry yes he can afford to wait 5 months, if he'd waited til the end of the season and we still hadn't improved then i'd fully understand him wanting to leave, no question, but it feels like he's leaving just as we're showing signs of getting back up there and him leaving could knock us back down again, which is the worst part.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

I thought he was training alone because Carra would do him.

Tbh he owes the club, he wasn't much before he came to Liverpool, a talented striker who was inconsistent. Rafa and the backroom staff made him what he is today imo. He's been in a sulk ever since the WC (when the club apparently forced him to play even though he wasn't fit).

It's fine that he wants to leave, but not on the last weekend of the transfer window, that's what is pissing everybody off. Although if th erumours are true and Liverpool can buy another 2 players (Adam and Young) the squad might be stronger for it. Still leaves a bitter taste though.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Hectic day coming up. Konchesky has gone out on loan to Nottingham Forest, Ayala on loan to Derby and Torres has turned up at Melwood in jeans while the rest of the squad are training.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

The mirror have just said on twitter that they've 'heard' a Pool have accepted a fee. Mental. Why Fernando? Chelsea? Seriously?

Sigh. Modern football sucks.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

£30m offered for Andy Carroll :BRICK:

If that isn't a panic bid, I don't know what is. Fortunately it's been rejected.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Ay, 30mil for Carrol? I know he is English so that's +10 mil right there and he's very young (22) and he could be an excellent addition with Suarez....uuh actually it might be a decent signing. Still too much though, but we know how inflated the prices are, especially with everybody and his dog knowing Liverpool should be getting 50mil if it goes through.

Good news is that the bids are getitng rejected meaning they won't allow him to leave, hopefully.

Also the price rise is a result of the new rules coming in in the summer. The clubs have carte blanche now, in the summer every penny will need to be accounted for against club revenue.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

It's the timing of all this that is disastrous.
It may well be that once Torres has effectively left, there will be no time to have a reasonable replacement.

Poor Suarez and poor Liverpool.

I hope Liverpool can buy a decent CF to fill the gap.
