Torres without injuries and mentally ok is the third best striker in the world (after Eto'o and Villa).
The problem is that recent history proved that Torres is very injury prone. That is perhaps also due to the fact that Liverpool don't have a plan B so that Torres has to play too much, which increases the probability of injuries. It doesn't help that the players of Spain's national team had hardly ane holidays the last summers.
At the last WC eveybody has seen that Torres has struggled. Every player has periods like that. But Torres injuries do not help to gain him confidence (this is a weird sentence, i hope you understand me well).
In short: Liverpool need other good goal scoring players to replace Torres when he is injured or needs a rest. Ngog is not that bad, but he is not good enough alone.
I tend to talk about Belgian players, not because they are the best in the world, but because i know them and because they are cheap (but unproven in big competitions), Racing Genk's Jelle Vossen could be a good back-up for Torres. He is a goal scoring machine and works really hard. I think there is some sort of coöperation agreement between both clubs because Liverpool loaned out a young French left back to Genk. So maybe it should not be that difficult for Liverpool to buy Vossen or even trying him out. He would suit Liverpool better than Jovanovic.

It's Chris Mavinga that's gone to Genk, right? Very promising and could be a very big player. Keep us updated to how he does though, hope he does well.

Yes i think it's Mavinga.
Racing Genk is doing great. It's a very good club for young players. They have a couple a very good young players: Kevin De Bruyne, Jelle Vossen, Marvin Ogunjimi,...

Wouldn't be very pleased with that if he was signed. Would probably be fairly expensive, want a ton of wages and not really someone who I could imagine playing for us anyway.

Also not too sure about Elia....he seems like another Babel...

Well he was world class! But i think those world class days are behind him. He's slowly getting more injury prone and i just don't we will see Gerrard again like he was 3-4 years ago!

I would not call Barca aliens, or step ahead of everyone... It´s just they are a great team..with great tactics and they know each other... so their performance rises... place Xavi, Messi and others in different clubs, maybe they would fail to reach the level of when they are at the same moment in Barcelona..

The thing about Barca's tactics are complete, there's not really a flaw in it. The only time they seem to get beaten is when they have an off day! People heavily underestimate the time and huge amount of work and disciple goes into not just their play on the ball but off the ball especially. Look at my team off the ball, were pretty crap, where as Barca are the best team off the ball as well as on it. There dosen't seem to be a way to crack them if they come at you 100% like we saw against Real Madrid where they were destroyed!

So with this team to beat them, you to try and put them off their game and hope they aren't at 90 or so percent.

and Real are arguably they second best team in the world!

I agree, you really need strikers so you don't have to keep rushing Torres back from injuries which is why he's become injury prone, same thing happened to Michael Owen!

also i rate Villa more than i do Torres, but he's still with Villa in being the worlds best striker when on song!

Also on the subject of Belgian football, is anyone else like me getting tired of hearing all this hype about Belgian kids but their National team continues to flatter to deceive! Mind you i've been a fan of that Eden Hazard since he was 15 :COOL:

It's true that much hyped players like Hazard and others still have a lot to prove.
On the other hand i don't remember anybody saying that things are going well for Belgian football. Everybody that knows Belgian football is well aware of the fact that the state of Belgian football is catastrophic.

About our national team, yes they flatter to deceive.

BUT

With an average age of about 20-21 years this is one of the least experienced national teams. The great Holland team that won Euro 88 were seen by everybody as "never will be's" (yes including the likes of Gullit, Rijkaard and Van Basten). Two years before their triumph a very mediocre (but experienced) Belgian team eliminated them for the 86 WC (and that same team finished fourth because they were experienced). Look at the last WC, in international football you need experienced players (Germany being the obvious exception, but that team is older than our national team).
Finally, it's not because you have good players (and nobody in England, France and Russia will deny that Kompany, Fellaini, Vermaelen, Hazard and Lombaerts are good) that you have a good team.

No, it's that it's being going on for a while now, i knew the situation was very bleak in Belgium back in the mid 00's when Anderlect were getting continually raped in the Champions league (18 match losing streak or something :CONFUSE: ) and with the national team really struggling badly, and haven't qualified for anything since 2002!

I mean, you've not had many outstanding strikers in a long while but with players like Vermaelen, Kompany, Van Buyten, Vandemborre, Simons etc.. i thought you would of at least made it into a Euro's at least, which is fair right?

There's been a lot of young Belgian teams though over the last ten years or so, Belgium gives youngsters a chance but it's players like Vandenborre (there's been a lot more), who everyone i heard expected to be some amazing player hasn't lived up to his expectations.

only just that i heard you talking about some talented young Belgian players and i just wondered what's the chances of them fulfilling their potential? Or is it, just problems with management, and issues behind the scenes since i can't fully understand why Belgium has been underachieving for such a long time.

In short, how good are these young Belgian players? (in the Belgian league)

Vandenborre is was born in octobre 1987 which makes him 23 years old. That is a litle bit young too be considered an has been. But he had personal problems and may not make it.

Who were/are the big talents?
Kompany (Man City)
Fellaini (Everton)
Vermaelen (Arsenal)
Hazard (Lille, in L'Equipe 's team of 2010)
Dembele (Champion with AZ and now with Fulham, but injury prone)
Vertonghen (Ajax, our best player IMO)
Alderweireld (Ajax)
Defour (had loads of different injuries)
Lombaerts (Zenith)

Relatively new emerging players:
De Bruyne (19 years old)
Lukaku (17 years old)
Carcela (22 years old, but he choose the Moroccan nationality)
Vossen (21 years old never considered a big talent, but now emerging)

I don't think either of them is old enough to be considered has been or never will be right at the moment.

Don't rate Lukaka, he's just a big striker! Does score goals but nothing more!

I don't think this is the place to elaborate further on this subject.
See for yourself how good all these players can become. While i don't agree at all with your arguments (that are not arguments, let's be honest), i also have a feeling that Lukaku will not make it...although he has one important thing in common with Kompany: he is very clever and mature.

Lukaku has got MASSIVE hype, an awful lot to live up to. I think the BBC Football website did a week special on him recently, which is crazy for a non-Englishman to get so much attention like that.

overhyping a player is never good.
Our press is going crazy about our "big talents"...every week there are unrealistical rumours.
Jan Vertonghen has been linked with Barcelona, AC Milan and Real Madrid.
Defour is linked with Man utd, Liverpool and Bayern Munich
Lukaku is linked with Chelsea and Real Madrid.
And Hazard is linked with every single big club...
At the beginning of the season De Bruyne was fantastic (in our very litle competition) he was also linked but lots of big clubs...now he has mononucleosis...this could turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

Dembele was also linked with lots of big clubs, now he is with Fulham. Lots of our good players turn out to be very injury prone when they play for big clubs, which is peculiar.

Those overhyped players will never be able to live up the hype...unless (like Kompany) they don't believe in the hype and stubbornly do their own thing...

God I hope so. Crap tactics again, Reina and the defense just hoofing it long so Torres can get battered by Samba and the rest. Also lets stretch the play as much as possible, keeping the defense deep and the strikers forward so we can give a fast paced blackburn attack as much space as possible to create chances whilst nullifying 4 of our own midfielders in the proces.

People can say what they want about Hogdson and the fans being overcritical, but in the space of 4 months Reina has gone from one of the most consistantly accurate and possesion maintaining "attacking" keepers to one that hits and hopes and mostly loses possesion.

There was an interesting stat/graphic on the Tomkinstimes comparing the Wolves match from last and this season. I'm seeing the exact same thing those graphics were showing:

Radio Merseyside said just before the match that Hodgson's sacking was imminent, maybe they had a crystal ball?

Dalglish to be in charge for the United match hopefully. The thought of Roy taking charge of a match against Utd .... just, no. As if this season hasn't been embarassing enough, I don't want to watch us getting battered all over the pitch and Roy breaking another record of our biggest defeat for X years.

You do know why he walked out, right? HINT: Not football reasons.

In any case, he's hardly going to do a worse job than Roy. And unless we've been doing research on Rangnick or Rijkaard, I can't see us getting anyone else in by Sunday.
