Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

Nah, he hasn't yet. He's on holiday heading back to Liverpool and Moratti is out of the country on oil business but in all likelihood, Rafa will be sacked when he returns it seems.

Although the Inter fans are largely behind Rafa and want him to stay according to the Italian press.

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

Giancarlo Galavotti of Gazzetta dello Sport speaking to SSN says majority of Inter fans want Rafa Benitez to stay.

Rafa has also spoken to Radio City and Spanish radio to say that he's not been sacked, is surprised by the reports and expects to return to Italy in a weeks time.

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

Seeing as this is now the Hodgson Out thread I thought I would post this latest quote....can anyone spot the irony?

But Hodgson admits it could be a long-term project, saying in the Daily Mirror: "I would plead for patience really. Of course we want Liverpool to be the Liverpool of old. We want to be up there every year competing in the Champions League.

"But we might have to accept that it will take us more than a few months. That would be a small price to pay if you get it right. You only have to look at teams who have tried to stay in the league or get into the top four.

"Clubs have virtually been destroyed by people making bad decisions. It's not because the owners haven't given money or supported the manager. It's just that they have brought in the wrong people."

Hodgson has said in the past that he is eager to add new faces in January, but it remains to be seen whether club owners NESV, fronted by John Henry, decide to spend money in an inflated winter market.

"If the owners want to invest a lot of money, that's up to them," said Hodgson. "If we find the right players, I'm not going to be saying to them, 'don't do it,'. I'm not that stupid. I want to work with the best players possible.

"But with the change that has gone on at the club and the new regime, it would be sensible for the new owners to be a bit more circumspect and get a closer look at everything.
"I don't think it would be a bad thing for us to keep testing out this squad of players.
"Before I start bringing players in, I've got to be aware that when I do, I will be pushing (Jonjo) Shelvey or (Martin) Kelly back. I've got to be convinced that the person coming in is the right one. That's the dilemma. When do we give the youngsters a chance?

"With that in mind, we have to be careful. My message to them would be - and it's no secret because I've had discussions with John about it - if the right players become available, and we really think they will push us on, we should go for them.

"We shouldn't hesitate if they feel they can do it. But I don't think we should be encouraging them to throw a lot of money at it straight away."

I've found 3, see if anybody can find more!

- It's just that they have brought in the wrong people.
- it would be sensible for the new owners to be a bit more circumspect and get a closer look at everything.
- I've got to be convinced that the person coming in is the right one. That's the dilemma. When do we give the youngsters a chance? ...Poulson?

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

It seems that Rafa is now sacked, €8m payoff as well.

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

Hardly, 13 points but with two games in hand and had a load of his main players injured. Not how well any other coach would handle the injuries he had to deal with, as well as not being able to refresh a clearly aging squad despite being promised three players when he agreed to sign for them.

With all of these sackings going on, I really can't believe Hodgson is still here.

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

Not a bad year for Benitez. I think that makes him the highest paid manager in the world for this season. 3m from the summer and another 8mil by Jan. 11mil for 6months.

Anybody else thinking he had already had talks with the new owners and intimated that he wanted to come back? Too many things seem to be coming together; his daughter enrolling (I thought it was fake till the news), his ultimatum to the Inter boss (we know how political Benitez is and probably knew very well how to get sacked), the januari transfer coming up, Hodgson seeing to be clueless as to what the plans are for jan transfers.

Maybe the players realised what a step back Hodgson is, Benitez got in touch with the new owners (he never wanted to leave anyway) and Hodgson digging his own grave with crappy media conferences and midtable tactics and results.

Not sure if it's a good idea (I think a lot will depend on the players tbh) but I wouldn't be surprised if he comes back in jan.

He is not gonna see anything of those 8m if he signs a contract with us or with any other team.

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

Why? They sacked him, and I would be pretty confident that he wouldn't allow a clause in his contract that says he can't go for a new job whilst not being under contract. I'm not even sure that human rights laws will allow it. The only aspect is confidentiality clauses, but other then that unless stipulated he can go wherever he wants. They terminated his contract, clause is they pay the rest of it. The end. In the same way players aren't allowed clauses in contracts that keep them from playing their ex-team.

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

No, actually there is a law that stipulates that when a club fire a manager they have to keep paying his contract until he signs a contract with another club.

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

I'm starting to warm to Rafa. Credit to him, he's potentially earned somewhere in the region of twelve million pounds for less than a years work and he's not even done a good job in that year.

Fair play to him. He's a shyster, I wasn't giving him his dues.

Oh oke, don't think that is the case in England, but could be wrong.

Now the news is he hasn't been sacked...yet. There goes my theory :D

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

Sacked or not sacked, a return of Benitez would be a very bad idea for both Liverpool and Benitez. IMO Benitez (who i rate high as a coach) has proved last season that he was clueless in Liverpool, it also seemed to me that he had lost the dressing room (but that can be a false impression from somebody who has not the information most people in this thread have).

Sacking Benitez would be a big mistake of Moratti...and i'm still not convinced that sacking Hodgson is a good idea (but i will not elaborate on that subject).

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

Agree, although for some emotional reason I would love to see him back.

He loves the club and the fans imo, you could see that in how vigouresly he fought against H+G and had the balls to stand up to Fergie.

Also not sure a midseason change would be any good either, the players seem to be getting used to the new system (whatever that's worth?) and that can only be better then them having to adjust again. On the otherhand this season a right-off anyway so you might aswell use it to prepare for next season and set everything up for a good summer and pre-season.

But I'm not sure Benitez will like the set-up with Comolli, although how he's described his function seems to be very much working together so that could work.

As for the players, I'm not sure they would be against it. Tbh I haven't seen anything to make me think they really appreciate Hodgson (on the pitch or in interviews) and seeing the difference between them might actually make the players appreciate the higher level of tactics and training.

So I'm not sure it would be best for the club, but I can't help wondering and wanting to see how it would go if he did come back.

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

I honestly cant think Gerrard and Carragher arent going to have a word against this move.

In that case: bye bye Gerrard and Carragher. Players shouldn't dictate clubs what to do...
It is time Liverpool build a team without those two players. The club will only benefit from it.

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

Someone on RAWK said:
Can you imagine the anguished cries? The tears of fear? The sheer fetid stench of dread and terror emanating from the deathly hallows of Old Trafford and the Bridge? Unfinished business is back on the agenda once more. We shall rise and become the force we were always destined to be. Once more our name will echo around the lands, peasants will cower, lords and ladies will flee, a force unstoppable and merciless will sweep over pastures fair and rip asunder all who dare stand in its way. The trophies shall return, the glory days of yesteryear will be memories no more but a birth right, a reality. We shall again be as untouchable as we were that dizzying night in Istanbul. Europe shall tremor as an overwhelming throng of battle hardened men lead by the king of general’s, blitz all in its path.

Premier league crowns fall effortlessly by the way side, Kings of Europe, Kings of the World they shall proclaim us. A symbol of class and righteousness, one all aspire to. The only true football club, a club with the loyalist of fans, a club with a master tactician at its helm, a tactician not afraid to say it how it is, one with a weakness for bullies and one who sees them for what they are. We shall once more be the benchmark that all teams, past, present and future shall be matched to, a benchmark that they shall all fail to near.

Liverpool Football Club and the glorious Benitez, hand in hand, arm in arm, vanquishing all foes, cleaving in twain all those who dare oppose us. We can dream lads but we must also see sense, this dream is about to become a reality. Fate tore us apart and now it has sewn us back together. The plague, the transatlantic pestilence that once sapped everything from us is no more, you singlehandedly removed that from this club, even though it cost you your job and tarnished your reputation in the eyes of the nonbelievers. Oh where for art thou now oh foolish non-believers and naysayers? Cowering behind your sofa's? You forced Rafa from us as you realised it was the only way we could be stopped, but now he shall return and there will be no second reprieve for you this time.

Welcome home sweet prince, it’s time to lay a few ghosts to rest and bury those who have failed to overthrow us. Our mighty name is in the safest of hands with you at our rudder, we cannot fail with you and we shall not fail you once more. I cried tears of sadness when you were ripped from us, when you fell on your own sword for us. You were the second coming, sacrificing yourself for the masses, for the greater good. Now I cry tears of sheer joy for your impending return. There is a God, his name art Rafa.

 WTF.

I think that was part of Benitez plan. That´s why he brought Aquilani and he wasnt going to renew Carragher ´s contract. Thanks to Roy, no we got Carra on a megacontract until 2013.

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

Dont know how true this is but....

Sounds like civil war within the coaching staff.

• The flip-chart from the players meeting is 100% genuine – it wasn’t in a Newcastle hotel as it was here before they left.
• Someone who witnessed the meeting said it was the most amateurish team meeting they have been in ever.
• Kelly spent his time swearing and urging Kyriagos and Skrtel to ‘rough up’ Andy Carroll – the players are used to more detailed information such as which foot he favours etc. The swearing, as fackin this and fackin that, doesn’t go down well in a professional environment with the players

• Before the Blackpool game the scouts reports (the guys who go and watch the opposition) all outlined that if you stop Charlie Adam then you stop Blackpool – he needs time and space to dictate the play and he pulls the strings for the Blackpool front 3 – Roy basically ignored them and in the briefing meetings when he was advised to close down Adams he said ‘Why? My teams don’t do that’. He then went out with his regimented 4-4-2 and wondered why Blackpool out passed us and destroyed us in the final third of the pitch.

• Roy was presented with scouting reports of recent Newcastle performances in a meeting with scouts and Damian Commolli (oh and the swearing big, old, fat cockney Kelly). Roy actually commented that he had never seen reports with so much detail and specific information about each of the opposition players and how they played. But then said ‘But what do you want me to do with them?’

• The reports started off by highlighting how the Newcastle full backs play higher up the pitch and leave spaces in behind them to exploit. Roy said ‘so what’. It was suggested to him that the wide players may wish to get men and the ball in that area and look to get crosses in to the box – ‘We don’t play that way!’

• They showed how Newcastle launch attacks from the high up fullbacks aiming diagonal balls into Carroll. Roy was urged to get his wide men to push on the full backs and not allow them the time to get their arrowed balls into Carroll – We don’t play that way!’

• At this point Commolli quietly urged the scouts to leave it and not push it any further.

• Hodgson and Kelly have built up a serious and nasty hatred for Torres and Reina – it has all come one way but has now started to return from the Spaniards.

• Mike Kelly spends his time slating the players and doesn’t have a good word to say about any of them

Hodgson is feeling that he is not getting anywhere near the credit he should be 'for guiding this squad so easily through the Europa League'.

He has tactically took a group of young players and also rans and sailed through against full strength sides.

'Facking ell, facking ell - no one is giving me the credit I deserve for the European efforts'

He is also not happy that John Henry is in many discussions with Commolli and not Roy.

Big arguments between staff brought in by Hodgson and those already at the club about footballing philosophies.

Ex Fulham coach on the virtues of their methods and Liverpool coaches desperately trying to tell them 'but we are not Fulham'
