Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

even if Rafa won nothing, still we played football that had tactics, he had his own system, we were beating top clubs at their ground...in CL... one mistake season and the stupid owners then fired him..

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's so hard to judge managers.
What if Raffa hadn't won the CL in his first year?
What if Ferguson hadn't won that FA Cup?

What if Man Utd would have had less patience with Ferguson.
Generally clubs don't have enough patience with managers.

Re: Liverpool Thread

tbh gerd most mutd fans are not aware of their drought. Hell, I can hardly remember Arsenal winning the double :COAT:

Re: Liverpool Thread

I was talking about his first FA Cup win beboq.
Afterwards it became that he would have been sacked if they hadn't won that FA Cup. That started it all.
I know it sounds silly, but imagine that he would have sacked...what would MU have missed....it hardly seems probable (and i hesitate to write this in this thread)...but maybe Hodgson will turn out to be as successfull as Ferguson.. ( i know that Hodgson does not have the palmares Ferguson had when coming to United, but Mourinho hadn't won anything before going to Porto and Wenger wasn't exactly a big success story before coming to Arsenal).

Re: Liverpool Thread

Maybe not the most bright thing to do, but if you hear the stick Konchesky gets by Liverpool fans...well every mum's heart would be broken. Sometimes "fans" forget that those players have beloved ones. I think a professional player should be above all those insults, but those "fans" forget that they can hurt other people who are not to blame for the mistakes of the football players.
I agree with some of the replies on Twitter (the first and the penultimate to be more specific).
As if Konchesky is to blame for the bad results, he's just a scapegoat. It isn't that easy to adjust to a new team and if that team is in constant crisis, it's even harder. To me Konchesky is a fine player, not a world beater, but i can't really remember that Liverpool recently had stars on the lef back position (in the CL final years there was that Irish player, Finnan if i'm not mistaken...a good team player, but not exactly a world beater either...).

PS: and about mums, you should see my wife when my son plays...
PPS: UJ, you should not have posted this, it adds to the hysteria...this has nothing to do with Liverpool. This is a fine example of what i call tribalism. Konchesky mum's Tweet was without class, but you should be above that. You're more intelligent than this.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Why shouldn't i post it? This is just a forum dedicated to a computer game gerd, it's not a political rally. She's a players mum calling the Liverpool team shit and saying the fans are 'Scouse scum' and Hodgson is a 'Cockney cunt'. This is a current affair for Liverpool fans so why shouldn't we discuss it? I haven't personally been on her facebook page, i was given the link to that picture by an Arsenal fan.

Also, Finnan was a right back and never played left-back in his career.

Someone checked out her profile and she was complaining that she was bored and wants a job to get out of the house. I doubt she's on benefits really, more likely to be getting some decent money from her son. So really, the "Scouse scum" are the ones paying her bills and buying her the nicer things in life. Good way to show how grateful she is. She also said she wouldn't move up here as she hates our accent.

Fair enough that Paul Konchesky shouldn't really get any blame for this, but stuff like his mother has posted does Paul no favours whatsoever and is extremely naive on her part.

As far as left-back goes, Aurelio should be playing ahead of him without question. And previously we've had Insua (who shouldn't have even been sent out on loan) and Riise who were far better.

Re: Liverpool Thread

If it is just a forum dedicated to a computer game, then why are we discussing football here, my friend?
The fact that she is a player's mum does not make this more relevant than if i would have posted that Tweet. If Konchesky himself would have done this, then you guys would have had (a litle bit) a reason to feel wronged.
I don't know if you have kids, but i wonder how you would react when your son would get the stick that Konchesky currently gets. This is not only unfair but also very stupid and without class (just like his mother's Tweet, but she is only his mother...she should be as important to Liverpool fans as my mum).
What did your post add to any discussion about football and Liverpool? Will Liverpool win or loose matches because of her tweet? On top of that she's only pointing out (in a very stupid way) that fans should support players in difficult times.
Just learn to see things in perspective: it's only football.

About Finnan: my mistake, i'm sorry. But he never got stick.
Kochesky is an easy target, why not criticize the stars of the team, the players that should make the difference (and aren't making it).

Riise indeed was much better and i agree that Insua is a big prospect Dags.

UJ,
If i have offended you: i'm sorry this was not the intention. We disagree a lot, but i quite like you and respect you as a genuine fan. But this IMO was entirely unnecessary. But this is only py opinion. Let's agree to disagree. Good luck to Liverpool for the next match (and let's hope Konchesky scores the winning goal with a stunner).

Re: Liverpool Thread

The thing is gerd, i do have a son (he's 3 and named Luis - i wonder if you can guess when i got the name ;) ) and all i can say is that if he became a professional footballer and took a lot of stick, of course i wouldn't like it, but i definitely wouldn't go on facebook and call his team and manager shit and call his fans scum. In my opinion her lack of class is astonishing. I don't know how you can say "she's only saying the fans should support the players" because she's not, she's calling the fans scum because they don't like her son.

But on the other hand, at no point did i say i was hurt by what she said, i posted it so we could talk about it, i didn't post it because i was upset by it, i actually think it's quite funny because of how pathetic it is that she's so unintelligent to post that on the internet for all to see.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ok fair enough, UJ.
I wish you much luck with your son. I have an idea where that name comes from, he was one of my favourite players and your son's name could refer to an important CL goal (i don't remember which one, but it coul well be a winning goal against Chelsea).
Would you believe i can't remember that player's name. He played for Barcelona before he came to Liverpool, he went too soon IMO and played for Atletico Madrid. I wonder where he's playing now.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I named my boys biblically encase God may favor them  anyhow FB is dangerous enough ppl post during an emtional state.

FB:

Mum: honey Im going out and left the back dooor open
Dad: cool I will be home late and left the money on top of frige..loves n kisses!

:LMAO:

Re: Liverpool Thread

Selling the likes of Riise, Arbeloa, Alonso, Sissoko, Benayoun, Crouch, even Robbie Keane were such bad decisions....

I know Rafa may not have had a part in every decision...
but imagine having those players now.....

We would not be worrying about Konchesky or Poulsen or Cole
or the lack of cover up front.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Selling those were H&G/Parry's fault. The 3 new signings are Hodgson's fault.

About Konchesky, (his mum sounds lovely by the way!) he's not that bad to be fair to him. He's obviously nothing special but he's a decent enough left back and given the situation he was probably the best available when you needed one badly.

Hodgson only resigned Aurelio late on in pre-season after he'd been released by the club so he was badly short of fitness, especially having been seriously injured at the end of last season.

Insua had already agreed to leave for Fiorentina before Roy joined the club so his departure was inevitable.

Signing a new left back was imperative and Roy had next to no funds to work with so he got someone he knew and trusted and who could do job in the meantime, with no risk of not settling in etc. I highly doubt Roy considers Konchesky the kind of player that can play a major role for years to come and be a part of a title winning side! He was cheap and available and whilst he might make the odd error, he's an alright player and he does gets a bit of unfair stick from some Liverpool fans who want someone a bit flashier or whatever.

His family are obviously biased and a bit thick to boot.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah about 2 weeks before he signed Konchesky. Konchesky was £3.5m. It's not a lot really is it.

£8m would get a decent left-back, in fact I'm sure our scouts are decent enough to find a better LB for £4.5m as well.

But then if Purslow wasn't allowed to be so involved in footballing decisions, we'd still have Insua here (as well as Aquilani).

And that's the point. We spent £8m but let Insua and Aquilani go out on loan, complete waste of the £8m frankly.

Edit: Factor in £2m on a goalkeeper who's never really going to play anyway, we could've easily just had Martin Hansen as the backup. So that's £10m on players that was wasted. And people have a go at Rafa for wasting money on signings?

Re: Liverpool Thread

The board should have given Rafa one more season.....it was dumb in getting a new manager before the ownership change.....made no sense at all....
We were never going to be attractive to any top manager out there
with H+G still around...
Then we had to get someone like Roy who grabbed at the chance
given that this is last chance at a big club...

Roy had to deal with a world cup summer, players coming back...and he
failed to get any good players except Meireles.
Yes the situation was not ideal...and maybe that is why he signed those players...
but why on earth did he loan out two players who were barely given a chance...
Insua and Aquilani..while Babel has been there for years...and done nothing much...
Hodgson will never make us better than what Rafa did...
he does not have a winning mentality...and I can't see that changing
after 35 years of underdog mentality at away matches.

Even with the new owners, the only positive is their winning mentality..
but apart from that...they don't seem to have much idea about Football
or Liverpool's traditions.....and hence they will give Roy some time.

The board should have left Rafa alone, till the new owners came in...
and had the chance to get someone better.
The LMA award and the Europa final got Roy his chance at the big time....

I heard Danny Murphy highly recommended Hodgson to Liverpool players...(must have been Gerrard and Carra).
Totally ignoring his lack of winning mentality....or any top class credentials...
just the flavor of the moment...one good season with a mid-table team....

Re: Liverpool Thread

@ Dags,

For 8mil you could get Dossena. Apparently he's a top quality LB in Italy. ;)

Cole reportedly got a 5mil signing on bonus aswell, so you can add that to total of money wasted.

Also, match is off tonight.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I've heard that Rafa's daughter has enrolled into a Liverpool school. And with Rafa's rant at Moratti last night ...

Edit: After Inter's win last night:

@karlsentk TK Karlsen
rafa "i decicate the win to my family, to spain, to liverpool supporters (!) [...], to the staff, to the players, to [walter] samuel"

Re: Liverpool Thread

Rafael Benítez issued what amounted to an ultimatum after Internazionale's 3-0 win over African champions TP Mazembe in the final of the Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi, telling his bosses to strengthen the squad if they wanted to keep him as coach.

"There are three possibilities," said Benítez, who has been under pressure since succeeding José Mourinho. Inter are seventh in the league, 13 points behind leaders Milan. "[First], 100% support for the coach and buy four or five players to build a stronger team, with competition among the players to be able to carry on winning matches and trophies.

"[Second], carry on like this without a project, without planning and go ahead with one person to blame, for the whole season getting to May this way. The third is to speak to my agent, reach an agreement if there is not this support."

Inter president Massimo Moratti responded to his coach's comments, saying: "It's not the moment to ask for reinforcements. It is not something we will decide now."
