Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ah, fair enough, I agree with most of that.

"The way the finances are run, in the public image, in the quality of players and in the style of play"

Surely most of this is a fall out from the Hicks / Gillette mismanagement of the club.

Once NESV stabilise the club they'll be able to run it in a financially sound manner, sorting most of those problems out. I think the negative style of play will be less of an issue going forward. The squad is a bit limited for cover at the moment and injuries to key attacking players (Gerrard, Kuyt, Torres early fitness problems) meant creativity was bound to take a hit.

A deal has been agreed for Poulsen to be sold in January!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Imagine if Carlo Ancelotti were sacked......
don't you think NESV should move mountains to get him !!
Just kidding...can't see it happening.

TBH...I am a little sick and tired of my own slating of Hodgson...
I want to see him go....but I am beginning to accept that
we should just let NESV and the new upper management
to decide on what is best for the club....
and try to support the team till Hodgson is there...
just trying to be neutral....
and not get too carried away with the results...
it gets depressing going on
the pendulum of emotions....there are other things in life.

Let's hope for the best for Liverpool.

Re: Liverpool Thread

mathewss, we are neutral. It is just that this guy hasnt done one thing right since he is our manager.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well it may not matter.....news is that Pacheco, Babel and Jovanovic
are on their way out......
Not good to see this....all 3 are flair players to some extent.
I am sick of seeing us stuck with players who specialize in tracking back and chasing lost causes.....hard working but not much skill...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Jovanovic already on the way out?
He scarcely had the time to prove himself.
In a way it makes sense because he is a player that Benitez bought, but since he was with Liverpool, why not give him the chance to prove himself.
I've always somehow had the feeling that Jova was not quite good enough for Liverpool...but it is rather soon that he is judged and found not good enough. Unless Jova himself wants to mover of course.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Didn't Jovanovic say very recently that he knows he's not played well and wants to step his game up?

I like Jovanovic a lot and I feel he could add a lot to the team, but it seems that if Roy doesn't like you then he won't even consider you. Getting rid of Pacheco would be a huge mistake. Not bothered about Babel, waste of a wage.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Didn't Jovanovic say very recently that he knows he's not played well and wants to step his game up?

And less recently he said that only a couple of teams play decent football and that he doesn't like all the defensive responsilities he has and that he might look to move if he wasn't getting any 1st team games.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him leave, he's not a player thats fits in with the new youth orientated set-up (well once Roy pisses off with his 29+ average) and the club can get some moeny for him aswell and make a profit. Babel will be off aswell, not sure what he has done wrong to not get a chance whatsoever. Last game he started he scored (in the EL). But then he never really did anything with Benitez in charge either so he's likely just not good enough.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ah, didn't see that he said that as well. Disappointing but understandable I guess.

Babel was letting his mouth off yesterday and badmouthing Rafa, soon deleted his tweets though.

Edit:
LIVERPOOL winger Ryan Babel has used social networking site Twitter to take a swipe at former boss Rafa Benitez.

The Dutchman claims he was prevented from taking part in extra training sessions under Benitez even when he was left out of the matchday squad.

“Let me tell you something that might surprise you, I wasn’t allowed to train extra under our former manager even when I wasn’t involved,” Babel said.

“I begged lots of times but it was simply not allowed and during the season you don’t train very hard because you have lots games so most sessions we had were without sweating

“But if I wanted to do some extra which I asked four every single day I didn’t have the permission.

“It was confusing of course because you want to get better. I even tried to train extra by doing it sneaky but the assistant manager (Sammy Lee) came to tell me to stop.

“I had to get used to that because in Ajax we were staying for one or two hours longer on the pitch by ourselves.

“That was a amazing time with Huntelaar, Sneijder, Edgar Davids, Kenneth Perez, Emanuelson etc.”

Babel denied he was criticising Benitez’s methods and added: “You are foolish if you think I’m attacking somebody, just telling you how it was.

“You can write a story as long as you don’t change my words. The thing to be a good journalist is to put it right and not make it sound different or ‘worser’”

Re: Liverpool Thread

I must say that i sympathize with Babel after reading this.
I hope Benitez at least explained why he wasn't allowed to train extra.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Although I haven't watched it yet, there's a video on the Liverpool website and the kitman is being interviewed, mentions about double training sessions...

Re: Liverpool Thread

I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't allowed. It's all statistics driven and extra, unsupervised training could have a negative effect for the weekend.

Re: Liverpool Thread

“Wins are hard to come by against the top teams and we have to admit that Tottenham are no longer the Tottenham of old,” he said.

“They are a top team. It is an expensively assembled side and we are not playing against mugs any more. One defeat in eight is a good run at any stage of the season. We have to be happy with that but we are not stupid. we know that if you go to Tottenham it could be two defeats in nine.”

How inspiring....

Re: Liverpool Thread

And if he would say

"we are Liverpool one of the biggest clubs in the world and don't have to be afraid of teams like Spurs, so i'm sure we will win this match"

You would say that he has a lack of respect for opponents and underestimating Spurs. No matter what Hodgson says will be negative for people like you...

Don't forget that Spurs are indeed better than a couple of years ago. I'm sure Hodgson is well aware of the fact that Spurs are vulnerable after a CL match. But he will never say this in public (you would slaughter him even more if he did). But i'm pretty sure he will say this to the players...if you would be honest with yourself you would know that too.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I am not expecting Hodgson to say that Liverpool are the best
team in the world...but I want him to say that we will give
it our best shot and that on our day we can beat anyone...
it will be difficult, but nothing is impossible...

But hearing him....he has already prepared us for the expected defeat...
in keeping with his lowered expectations.
Whereas Redknapp says Spurs can win the Title...not in an arrogant
way but the way it gives players some belief....

We'll see how Liverpool approach this game....trying to defend and knick a point
or try and look for a win. Spurs are good at the counter as Inter found out...
so this will be tough....but I just hope we don't go there parking the bus...
just put them under pressure with high pressing...and try to have some kind of
attacks to give Torres the chance...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Or he could say;

"We have been training well and intensively preparing for the match. We will go there looking to get 3 points and close the gap to the top 4."

No arrogance, no defeatism and factually accurate. It's not that hard...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Don't rate Redknapp either. He's probably a good man manager but I always get the impression that when teams play well, or don't, it's more down to players then any advanced tactical plan. I have hardly seen any Spurs matches this season so can't be sure, but I get the impression the success is down to good players playing a formation that they enjoy coupled with good form from a few standout players this season. Redknapp's quality seems to be to keep players happy and get the best out of them individualy. When you look at how strong the squad is, and how poor Liverpool have been playing it's pretty shocking that they are still only 3 points ahead.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yes but that is what attracts me to them. Offensively, they can be sooo strong, they make goals no other team can make, but unfortunately they concede goals that no other team concedes. I hope this will not infuriate people here, but rather play good and exciting football than be boring and dull, because that's what Liverpool usually is this year. One might ask what will happen if they will play at their best level again (but the same goes for Man Utd deadly boring, but they haven't lost and yet they seem vulnerable this year.. on paper Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and City have better squads.).

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think mutd are a wounded animal w/ it`s back against the wall. Saying that, their effectiveness is 2nd to none . They have tunnel vision their way to the top, and imo it`s not players it`s the boss giving them belief.
