No-ones trolling stop being silly. It's just a bit of a debate about football.

You're quite entitled to moan about Roy but if you're coming out with ignorant stuff like 'Fulham are a long ball team, it's ok for Zamora but Torres is better than that' when that's clearly not accurate, is someone not entitled to point out that you're off the mark and try and have a discussion about it? That's not WUMing. Rather than acknowledging my reply you just ignored it and then take the high horse afterwards and that just makes the 'atmosphere' of the thread worse. Not only that, you got all arsey when someone suggested Liverpool were playing long ball last season so it's a bit rich.

I just think it is possible to have conflicting opinions without one person being a wind-up merchant but you lot obviously don't.

Excellent, Poulson / Lucas axis on saterday. :D / :(

FFS, what is Capello on about keeping him on to have a senior player. The game was done, 2-0 down and from what I have read being outclassed anyway. Also the "asked the player" excuse is another pointless argument. We all know they are as thick as ... and are very competative personalities so they will always want to play on. That's the whole point of being a manager is to be responsible for the players welfair. He even said that midweek internationals are always dangerous for injuries!

No agree, however the combination of him with a non creative DM is a disaster. Especially against a weaker team who sit back anyway. His best games have been against the top teams when his qualities satnd out, breaking up play and starting attacks with simple passes to the creative players. However when he is asked to be the creative in the CM I think he lacks the quality, same with Masch. So the combination with Poulson will be terrible.

I would rather have;

Kelly - CD - CD - LB
Johnson - Lucas - Meireles - Maxi
------------Kuyt
-----------Torres

But I worry we will be getting;
Carra - Greek - Skrtel - Konchesky
Meireles--Lucas--Poulson--Maxi
----------------Kuyt
-------------Torres

isn't Lucas banned this week after the red card at the Stoke match?

Am liking the Jovanovic geezer more and more - showing the correct attitude even though he hasn't been picked recently. This, on why he doesn't want to be picked for Serbia at the moment.
"I am 29 years old and I have a career which is quite good.

"But I know when I am not playing well and that is why I told my national coach (Vladimir) Petrovic that I don't want to be called up until I am playing first-team football at Liverpool. "

My God, a player with common sense?

Jovanovic is a bizar human being.
The Belgian press loved him, but he can act very funny on the pitch.
With Standard he was the absolute star (more than Defour who is their leader and best player) and he enjoyed quite a lot of privileges compared to all the other players.
It's good that he realizes that he is just an ordinary player in Liverpool.

I just meant to ask how he is doing..apparently not very well...

I know, if only all players were as grounded as him, football would be a much more enjoyable sport.

The midfield on Saturday will probably be Poulsen, Meireles and Shelvey with Maxi on the right and i'm gonna go out on a limb and say Aurelio on the left.

Inter has put Piero Ausilio to monitor everything Benitez does. I dont think he has much future there. They have a crisis injury and if he doesnt win the next two matches, it is said that he is going to get sacked. I got the feeling that he is going to be back here before the season ends.

A poor West Ham but you can only beat what's in front of you and we're playing well. Meireles is playing superb again and I'm becoming a big fan of his.

And all of this without Gerrard eh?

1st half was pretty good.... I liked the way the passing and overall positive movement was very good...
Gerrard was barely missed and all the players did well.
West Ham were terrible...but we did well......can we play like this away from home ? That will be
what shows if we are top 4 quality.

Next 3 matches will be tough though.... Spurs (Away).
Villa (home) and Newcastle (away)

And maybe Roy got the reaction from Johnson that he wanted? Although I wouldnt say he's been poor, but he's had niggling injuries has he not.

Could Johnson be the next bale. They both USE the ball so well, and use their frame to outsmart defenders. Johnson has TWO good feet, he's a goal threat, and he's probably the best crosser of the ball behind Gerrard and Aurelio. Further forward? I'd like to see it sometimes.

Maxi underlining his worth to the team. We played with intent yesterday, whenever there was space, we were driving into it. Only Rob Green kept the scoreline respectable.

Energetic and effective at home, dreadful away (domestically). It sums up Roy Hodgson's teams doesnt it?

Tbh I wouldn't read too much into the result or performance. WH were really utter, utter sh!te. Didn't think I would see a worse performance this season then from I've seen from Liverpool but WH took it to a new low.

To me this was a good win.
Liverpool played pretty well.
This should give the team some confidence. And since Spurs ar e playing CL, it seems a win against Spurs is possible.

L'Equipe saying Hodgson was watching Gervinho yesterday. He seems to be spending a fair bit of time in France since Comolli arrived, last weeek he was there to watch M'Vila.

I usually am, :D

But really, WH were terrible. And my pessimism is founded, Liverpool beat Chelsea and then got one point from Wigan and Stoke. So a win against a team as bad as WH offers me nothing in regard to seeing any improvement in the team. Also I think it was a bad decision to back-off so much in the 2nd half, Liverpool's goal diffence is still -2. Atleast try and get that sorted as it's so close between 5 and 12?

Do agree about the Spurs match though, was looking to see if I was going to sign Bale this week (fantasyleague) but a Wednesday CL followed by a likely defensive Liverpool on the Sunday makes me think Bale won't be doing much (might have just jinxed it now, haha) and I would expect Spurs to be tired aswell. They were poor against Bolton the other week so there might be some hope for Liverpool on sunday. Still might sign Bale as the weekend would then be a no-lose situation, if Bale does well I score points, if he doesn't Liverpool will hopefully score points.

I can't read that postmatch site (access is blocked at work), but going by other comments on here I'm guessing it's critical of the performance at the weekend.

I don't see what else the team could have done on Saturday. I agree west Ham are poor, but thats the biggest defeat they've had all season (equal with Villa away on the openeing weekend) it's not like West Ham have made a habit of capitulating by 4-5 goals this season, they only lost 1-0 to Arsenal away and drew 2-2 at Birmingham.

It's one thing if your fans want Hodgson out because he's not a high profile swave sophisticated foreign manager; or because it's not media savvy and good with soundbites at press conferences; or because he doesnt play Agger and you don't like his other (financially constrained) signings; or because the team is inconsistent. But to use the fact you only beat a team 3-0 to have a dig at him seems a little harsh, it's the same score you had against them last April.

However, it has been hard to ignore the negative press that Liverpool have been receiving recently, both from regular fans and from football pundits. The general charge has been that Liverpool fans must get to grips with the reality of their situation, that they are no longer a top club and that they must alter their expectations accordingly. The horrendously protracted sale of the club did their image no favours either, and gave many a Liverpool detractor their moment in the sun.

I think that the notion of the ‘big club’ is as outdated as it is elitist, but one thing is striking when one talks to Liverpool supporters. For fans who supposedly believe they have a right to win everything in style, it is rather suprising to find out that actually, they don’t. They really don’t. Time and time again I have spoken to Liverpool fans, expecting a barrage of unrealistic predictions and lofty ambitions. And time and time again it doesn’t happen.

This set me thinking, and I have a theory on why Liverpool fans – and other fans of ‘big clubs’ who aren’t winning things – are misunderstood. Liverpool fans do not believe they have a right to success, they believe they have a right to expect a certain standard at their club – in the way the finances are run, in the public image, in the quality of players and in the style of play. Why shouldn’t followers of a club which has in the past epitomised professionalism, community spirit, local pride and sporting success expect it to continue? Why shouldn’t they demand high standards on and off the pitch? Why shouldn’t they herald what the club means to them? Why shouldn’t they be proud of their history?

They don’t want to see their club auctioned off, squabbled over and bargained for. They aren’t particularly happy with a coach who errs on the side of negativity, and more than anything they demand their club behaves on and off the pitch to a level akin to what they are used to and what they have become world famous for. There is, after all, a reason they are so internationally respected – that respect certainly wasn’t borne out of financial squabbling, profiteering and negativity on the pitch.

There are certain clubs that inspire civic pride and which define their supporters. Liverpool is one of them. So hey, lets stop this one dimensional criticism of the club and their supporters – I’d bet that the majority of them aren’t bothered about being Champions – they just want the class back.

I agree with the last two paragraphs.
The rest is nonsense IMO.
IMO it's been ages since Liverpool have won with style. Under Benitez they rarely won with style.
In fact i don't see much English teams at all that have won things in style. Arsenal have style, but their problem is that they don't win (in Europe). Spurs have style, but they certainly don't win at all. I enjoy Chelsea now and then, and Man Utd had Ronaldo, Tevez and Berbatov...but they didn't exactly produced sexy football either..

But of course 'winning in style' is a luxury that only the biggest teams (ever) can do: , Man Utd first ECI winning team (Best, Law, Charlton),Barcelona, Ajax under Cruijff, Red Star Belgrade in the '90's (and they won the final after a decidedly 'ugly' and cynical match) and Milan under Sacchi. Maybe also the big Real Madrid of Puskas, Di Stefano and Gento, but i never saw that team...

Liverpool don't need to win in style...winning is enough.

Surely most of this is a fall out from the Hicks / Gillette mismanagement of the club.

Once NESV stabilise the club they'll be able to run it in a financially sound manner, sorting most of those problems out. I think the negative style of play will be less of an issue going forward. The squad is a bit limited for cover at the moment and injuries to key attacking players (Gerrard, Kuyt, Torres early fitness problems) meant creativity was bound to take a hit.
