:WORSHIP::WORSHIP: Welcome back!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Good game and good result for us, whole team seemed to work together and all wanted it today so that was good to see.

Totally different halves and impressed with us for both halves and showing different mentalities. Lucas was probably the man of the match for me, really coming into his own this season.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Lucas was MOTM for me, very impressive.

Stil think second half we could have shown a bit more attacking threat but I understand were not a force that can do that at the moment, it'll come I hope.

Re: Liverpool Thread

ROY OUT!

Yeah Lucas MOTM for me too, thought Konchesky did alright as well.

What was Reina playing at in the last 5mins? Nearly fucked it up twice!

Anyway, even though the result totally screwed up my fantasy football, I can't say I'm not pleased with it. :)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Good point, Martin Kelly was superb today and he's growing with each game. Looks like he's going to be a brilliant player.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Maybe you've turned the corner now. Your fixtures dont look that bad for the next few months, only Spurs away would be a big worry, and in the week before they'll have played Bremen (h) and Arsenal (a).

Re: Liverpool Thread

:WORSHIP::WORSHIP: Welcome back!

He's not back, not quite yet.

Still plays like he's drunk, so his running and his control of the ball are all over the place.

But with those two goals it was like sobering up.

Maybe it's fitness (though he put in a decent shift today) but at least he should be confident from now on.

Think it was only me and you Dags who have supported Lucas all along.

The lad was class today, nobody got past him and he played a big role in our attacking play as well.

So happy with today's performance and result, it'll still take a lot more to convince me that Hodgson has got what it takes though.

definetly, but what about other brilliant player from Denmark sitting on bench? :(

(not Poulsen)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well done Roy! :PIRATE:

Although i would love to see Chelsea become champions, i'm very glad for Liverpool. Football needs a club like Liverpool doing very well.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Great fighting performance by Liverpool today....
Lucas, Torres, Meireles, Kelly...

The assist by Meireles was superb...winning the ball and releasing
Torres down the left for his super goal !

The team really wanted this bad...and it showed ....great stuff...
was it technically good....not too bad...there were times we gave away
the ball too cheaply....but this was a Cup Final performance where the win
was more important.

Regarding Hodgson....well if we can keep winning he may eventually
win us over....but I doubt it....but credit is due...he has stopped
the depression....and this is a famous win.
The best thing for both Hodgson and Liverpool is respectability for both
parties....i.e. Hodgson takes us close to 4th spot...and maybe a Cup Final...
and then he can leave with his head held high...and we get a younger manager
for the long-term.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Concerning the manager "problem".
Liverpool fans need to realise that at the time when Hodgson was appointed, it was impossible for Liverpool to attract a world class manager (Mourinho, Benitez, Ancelotti, Van Gaal).
I think it would be very unfair to sack Hodgson now that Liverpool are an attractive club (again)...he's not doing too bad.
And does this win against Chelsea not prove that the players were to blame for the bad performances..if you can win against Chelsea, you definitely has to win against Blackpool no matter what coach you have.

Yes I agree that we did not have much of a choice at the time
we needed a new manager. I did welcome it at that time
but was hoping for Pellegrini as first choice....
Hodgson came here with the uncertainty hanging over this club.

Well the players do take some blame...but so does the manager
with the tactics, subs, motivation, etc....
So they are all in it together....

Credit the players and Hodgson for 3 wins....

But the owner has backed Hodgson only for the short term...
and it makes sense....back him....but for the long term I think
we need a better manager.

If results keep improving...then sure..give him some time...
Summer is probably the best time to bring in a new manager.

Re: Liverpool Thread

talking about Agger..i think he is to good to sit on bench.. hope he stays though.. :/

the problem with Agger is he seems to be made out of glass, in the last 4 years he's only made 11 more appearances than Fabio Aurelio in the league! :CONFUSE:

he's out now indefinitely because he's got bone problems in his leg, according to Hodgson:

"Agger is long-term. They can't put a date on it," said Hodgson. "At the moment he can't train, he has just got to rest and wait for the next time he goes to see the specialist again."

Hodgson added: "They are very anxious that bone doesn't form. It is a calcification issue and training would certainly accelerate the calcification.

"Now they have to wait and hope the body breaks down the calcifying elements before he can even think about training again. So it could be very long term."

Sounds pretty serious to me.

Lucas has misplaced eight passes in the last four games. That, in any league and at any level, is phenomenal.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I've said on numerous occasions that he could be your equivalent of Darren Fletcher, a player much maligned in his younger years but matures into a very solid, consistent first team player.

Like Fletcher's always done for us, even as a teenager, he flourishes in the tight, big games.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Was it you who started the thread on RedCafe?
No but there have been quite a few users on there who held that opinion over the last few seasons even before that thread was made.

I've said it in here before:

That's right. Reminds me of how Fletcher was scapegoated by our fans in the past.

He'll develop into a good player.

And I'm sure I've said similar in the Utd thread as well. His versatility is interesting because under more "negative" managers like Benitez and Hodgson, he plays a quite reserved midfield role but at his previous club Gremio and for Brazil under their new manager Menezes, he plays/played a more enterprising role.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think I said in here but when Brazil played here a few weeks ago, I read that Lucas ran the show and was immense in attacking moves.

He seemed to be everywhere yesterday though, both breaking up play as well as setting moves up.

Clearly getting better with each game :)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Was it the friendly against Ukraine? That was held at Pride Park, here in Derby and I went to see it.

Him and Ramires looked to have struck up a good partnership in Brazil's central midfield from what I saw, sharing offensive and defensive duties quite well.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yes I was another who said he'd be a great player in the future when most others were sticking the boot in. :SMUG:

Re: Liverpool Thread

Lucas is certainly proving his worth this season, looking a lot more composed on the ball, and clever with it as well.

If he can add a couple more goals to his repertoire then you'll have an excellent midfielder.

Re: Liverpool Thread

but at his previous club Gremio and for Brazil under their new manager Menezes, he plays/played a more enterprising role.

TBH when he first arrived he did play like that, always keeping
the ball moving, simple one touch passes here and there and
I always thought we(as a team) should adopt a simular approach.

Benitez was the one who changed his game, but there has been times
where he was let off the leash(Lille at home).

Been a fan of Lucas since he came to the club, never thought as him
as being shit, as I could see put him in a team like Arsenal or even
Barca & he would flourish.

I dont agree about your last sentence. I think that these last victories are very related with the change of owners. It changed the atmosphere, it was like when you change your manager that in the short team it almost always has a positive result.
I think we must not get to overexcited for yesterday ´s victoy. We won against Chelsea, but lets not forget that they didnt have their best player and, though they are 1st, these last matches they werent playing too well. This is the same manager that lost against Blackpool and that is puting Meireles as a RIGHT WING and Kuyt as a sort of playmaker to name a few things that I consider at least laughable.
