Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm not sure. I think Hodgson has till december. Pellegrini has already admitted that talks have taken place and has said he will be looking to decide in december which offer he takes.

Although whether it's all BS remains to be seen.

I think they will hire a new CEO first, then only will any change happen.
Since they dont have the footballing background, they will not change
anything without getting a new CEO and/or director of football...

I would think Joe Januzsewscki will have a big part to play....
considering he is the only person with footballing knowledge and a big
fan of Liverpool....it was him who suggested to Henry/Werner to buy
the club....

Let's see.....I think they will take some time....
hopefully not too much longer

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yep, was going to say I would rather have Ngog start but Torres managed to make the decisive pass to win the match. Thought Ngog did really well though, won the ball a lot and kept possesion.

One thing positive that Hodgson has brought to the team is that they are actually dangerous from corners!

Good performance at a difficult ground.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Torres was piss poor...in the first half. Low and behold, when we bring on Ngog to do the donkey work, Torres starts to influence the game. No matter whan anyone says about Ngog....he's a handful, his first touch is improving immensley, he's decent in the air and he's getting much beefier from when he arrived.

Maxi had a great game. I've heard a few Liverpool fans and journalists bleating on about him not being good enough. Granted, he has been wasteful in the past, despite him finding some magificent positions. I've often found he hasn't been aggressive enough when on the wing...playing the safe option instead of playing a cross or trying to get past a man. He WILL chip in with goals if he's allowed to influence the game, he's proven that throughout his career.

Andy Gray kept banging on about Gerrard having his back to goal...and in a way, he's right. Cole and Maxi can turn on a sixpence with the ball and will always find time and space to make things happen, Gerrard is better either arriving late, pulling strings, and he's still the best long passer in the squad.

I think as manager, Roy has to either do two things: Change the SYSTEM to something that suits the personel we have, or you pick the starting lineup to fit the current system, which Roy hasn't changed from Rafa. The only difference is the man to man marking, which I don't think is any better than zonal, any difference in conceeding less from set pieces will be down to a more dominant aerial centre back partnership. Skrtel and Kryiakos are really starting to build something good.

Great result today. The game against Chelsea will be tough, but with the crowd up for it, who knows...It's a shame that Cole's injury looked nasty.

Far too many draws in the league so far has meant things are tight, infact the only club that has really showed ANY consistency is Chelsea.

I think we should be looking at strikers who can works their bollox off, hold it up and allow someone like Torres to play facing goal. A Lavezzi/Tevez type who can drop deep and pass people or a proper target man....heck even Kevin Davies.

Agree about what Hodgson needs to do...
and the need for a hard-working support striker...
who can take the burden off Torres...
So how many goals has Torres been involved in....he has scored 2...
created 3 at least....fouled for the 2 goals at Man U.....
that is 7 goals..
not bad for a player at his worst form..

So Hodgson surely has bought some time.....with this win...
next weekend will be interesting....can we spring a surprise ?

Re: Liverpool Thread

For me, the best striker we could possibly buy to partner Torres is Mirko Vucinic. Very underrated player but I think he is pure class. He has got loads of creativity, passing skills, vision and goal. But he would be expensive and Roma wouldnt let leave easily their best player.

I think now is the time to buy him. He is no longer a starter, especially with Borriello and Menez. Reports are saying that he's not very happy at Roma lately. His performance against Lecce this weekend was absolutely awesome though - he really wanted to prove what he's capable of.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I guess he considers any away win a famous win. In his defense it must feel like a cup final win as he hardly ever experiences them! :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

what happened to roy? he was a brilliant manager in fulham?

He wasn't a brilliant manager, he was a good manager, and still is. At Fulham he only won 1 single away game all last season and that was against Portsmouth on the very first day of the season. He had a good cup run in the Europa League but was pretty poor in the Premier League.

He's still a good manager but i think Liverpool are too big a club for him.

Thought it was funny yesterday when Roy said "people have told me several times this week we don't usually win away". No Roy, YOU don't usually win away, WE do.

Re: Liverpool Thread

So Hodgson is the coach that always looses away matches?
Yesterday he won, or was that Liverpool?

That is the way it works for you guys: Roy looses and when Liverpool wins, then Roy has nothing to do with it...seems not very logical to me.

Right, i know this has become a hobby of yours, but seriously gerd stop twisting everything i say.

I didn't say anything like what you said.

He said that we're not used to winning away (meaning Liverpool), in fact Liverpool are used to winning away but Hodgson isn't. Look at his record for proof of that (i think it's something like 7 away wins from 52 games).

You completely twisted what i said and made an entirely different point.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I've read your last post again, you are right. I misunderstood. Sorry.
Although my English is quite good, don't forget that i'm not a native speaker.

Anyway, i will stop defend Roy in this thread.

Re: Liverpool Thread

gerd, defend Roy all you want mate. Just understand that it means more to us than it does you, and we're used to managers having a bit of class and dignity, Roy has completely flipped that round and is showing very little class and dignity in the stuff he's said in the past few weeks.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Looking at the stats in the League for 2010,
it is clear that Hodgson has taken the club backwards.

In 2010, uptil May, we played 18 games, 8 W, 6 D, 4 L....

From August till Oct, we played 10, 3 W, 3 D, 4 L....
Our football is worse than last year.
We already have 4 defeats.
The 3 wins we had....have been tight affairs except for the
Blackburn game where we dominated the first 70 minutes.

Hodgson keeps talking about rebuilding, but the point is
we were not terrible last year.
We had a blip, but were not doing too bad.....
but considering our 2nd place in 2009, the 2010 season
was not too good....it was a failure because we finished out of the
top 4, which we were always in touching distance till the last 1 month
of the 2010 season.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Revisionism at its best there.

19 games lost in all comps.
Knocked out of CL at group stage with only 2 wins.
Knocked out of the FA Cup by Reading, in a replay, at home.
Qualified for Europe only because Portsmouth couldn't get a UEFA license, and just 2 points ahead of Everton.

As you say, not too bad.

i have to agree, if any striker than him..i like him as player and would be ideal for LFC but also to keep Torres obviously and get new manager..

some time ago there was thread on RAWK what players you wish..

i said that i would like Vucinic..now he is linked with us wich is good imo..

but we also need left back/wing...

have you watched the game actualy? we were bad, i have seen only one good game that was against Napoli.. or perhaps Napoli was playing like that becouse of upcoming match in seria a against AC Milan....

I have not seen our game against Blackburn but yesterday in all fairnes it should have been draw or one two goals up for Bolton...tbf, we were lucky and with Referee help ...Carras handball and Skrtels foul on Davis...could have been penalties..

Roy realy has very less to do with how we play..i still dont have a clue how we play, why he dont play Agger, why he playes Carra as RB...etc...

It would have been a famous draw yesterday so now it is unbeliveable win for him i gues....

Dude....you can't compare the CL and Cups because the season is not over
....but you can compare the League as apples against apples....

Even if you did compare the Cups...we're already out of the Carling Cup...
knocked out by the formidable northampton..
And we did well in the Europa last season...

I looked only at 2010...because that is the year we are playing in..
and that is the most recent form to compare against.

Again....I would like to see how many Man Utd fans are queuing up
to replace Fergie with Roy Hodgson if he were available....

Hodgson is a stop-gap arrangement...and I hope the new owners can get
a good CEO that will find the right manager.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Sorry, I thought you meant the season as a whole from where you said:
We had a blip, but were not doing too bad.....

was not too good....it was a failure because we finished out of the
top 4, which we were always in touching distance till the last 1 month

Even so, in 2010 you had less wins than draws or defeats in the league. And the FA Cup matches against Reading were both in 2010 too. The CL had been and gone by that point.

Re: Liverpool Thread

No matter what people might think about this comment, Rafa is still Liverpool manager... :)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Just saw the video where Rafa spoke....
YouTube - Rafa Benitez: Some people cannot see a priest in a mountain of sugar

funny how the media makes it as "Rafa launches scathing attack"....

as if poor old Roy was just sitting there minding his own business....
and the bully Rafa comes along and hits him....

Roy is playing games trying to get the fans against Rafa by
saying that Dalglish was frozen out....when he forgets it was Rafa
who brought Dalglish back...and even suggested his name as new manager.

Trying to blame Rafa....who is not blameless...but cannot be
ignored for making us a top team in Europe and a regular in the top 4
something which Roy can only dream about.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I love Rafa: "With £10million net spending, I left that squad with £300million value, 13 internationals.

"So, instead of talking about flips and flops, he has to concentrate on his job, try to do his best and not talk about the level of his players or the new players."

Anyone care to explain to me how Rafa only spent £10m net? And what, if the squad is worth £300m, the stadium/brand etc is worth?
