Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

To me Liverpool has had 3 exceptionally good players: Reina, Xabi Alonso and Torres. For evey other player (yes also for Gerrard) you could name 3 or 4 EPL players who are arguably as good if not better.

Most ridiculous thing I've read on Evo-Web ever. How many teams in the world have a squad where more than 3 or 4 of their players are better than other players in their league? Very few players are of a class where they don't have an equal.

The fact is, most teams don't have more than 2-3 "world class", standout players that have no equal to others, there just aren't that many players in the world.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Could you explain why this is the most ridiculous thing you have ever read on Evo-web? Is it because it explains why i think most fans in here overrate Liverpool's squad?
And i'm was not talking about world class players... i never considered Reina and Torres as world class.
Compare Liverpool's starting eleven to that of Chelsea, Arsenal and Man Utd and there is a big difference. If you consider Liverpool's bench and compare it with those clubs bench then the difference is simply immense.
I also think that both Man City and Spurs have a far better squad.
Maybe even clubs like Sunderland and Everton have a better first team. To me it wasn't that big a surprise that Everton won the derby.

Besides that you could have shown a litle bit more respect for my opinion. Your commentary was way over the top. It's one thing to disagree but another to be considered virtually an idiot.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Going back to topic......
I did'nt know Hodgson compares himself to Ferguson...
I can see where he is coming from though....since he has
succeeded in most places he has coached....
but then again...Ferguson has been consistently doing it
at the top level working with different generations of players
both young and experienced...

Hodgson though has not had success in any of the *top* leagues
Italy and England being where he coached.
And he has not won any major trophy in Europe, although he
has reached 2 finals with Inter and Fulham.....
Did'nt Ferguson win the European Cup Winners' Cup at Aberdeen
before coming to Utd ?

One big difference is that Hodgson is now 63 and came to a new
club, it will be very difficult for him to get much time....
and also for him to change his negative tactics to suit Liverpool.
Fergie had come to United much younger....and was known as a more
attacking coach...I remember him in 88/89 season, when United
came to Anfield and outplayed Liverpool in a 0:0 draw...and even
in the 3:3 draw at Anfield...and the following season's 3:1 defeat
we had at Old Trafford....you could see Fergie's way of playing
was attractive football....and he went on to stamp that on United
for years to come....
whereas Hodgson is not know for that....so I can't see him succeed
at Liverpool....at his age where he may not be willing to change.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yep, they've already said that they won't be big spenders and it's not their style.

Interesting point about older players on long contracts though, especially Carragher.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah seems a solid basis for running a club. Would always rather spend more on 18-24 y.o.'s then spend 20+ on a 28+ player.

Ofcourse you would need a manager that is there to develope the team over a 5-10 year period.

Re: Liverpool Thread

We've been scouting Hazard, Affelay and Defour recently, all fit the bill there.

Re: Liverpool Thread

NESV are going to have a more hands-on role with authorising purchases now, we're told. They want value for money and we'd hope that they'll look at Brunt and realise he's not worth £9m.

Re: Liverpool Thread

bra you thought hodgson was ideal , you said he fit the bill and such. You make it out like you were against him from the get-go. Obviously you are upset ...look for the positives within the negative sometimes.

I never said I was against him from the beginning....I did admit that
earlier....so not sure what you're going on about.
I can't see any positive in having Hodgson ....

Re: Liverpool Thread

Brunt's not that bad. He's got 6 assists so far this season which is only 3 less than you've scored as a team!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Defour is still Standard property.
It's a bad time to transfer Hazard, he has a very tough season. Is often on the bench for Lille and even lost his place in our national team... (same geos for Lukaku, but that is a Spurs or Chelsea target apparently).

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's good to sign younger players...
but it may take time for them to come good.....
or they can click really fast...

Hazard was good last year....
Affellay is good...
Dufour...is he good after the injury ?

Hoping for the best.....it is exciting...we need quick, young, attacking players
....we can see Arsenal and United going in that direction.

Still we need a proper striker too...and 1 winger atleast.

Roy's Quote Of The Day:

Hodgson: "We have got a lot more expensive failures on our list than good players that we have brought in for next to nothing" #LFC

Great way to boost morale and increase team bonding, Roy.

Re: Liverpool Thread

He has turned from a gentlemen into a classless tw*t who looks to place blame everywhere but himself and at the same time continues to talk up how good he is! I didn't realise we hired Fat Sam?!

Says enough when Reina has to come out to defend Torres after a comment made by the manager...

And let's hope the transfer talk about jan is bull aswell. Don't want him anywhere near the money.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Let's hope than by January he is as far as possible from Anfield. It 's not that we got to pray or something, with his tactics and managing that is going to come all by itself.

Roy's Quote Of The Day:

Yet again...he is trying to blame Rafa for his signings...
and trying to say he has spent wisely ?

Owen Coyle is saying he is bewildered by the criticism levelled at Hodgson
saying he is a top class manager who is very successful
and a top class man....
BOTH FALSE statements driven by media hype....
He is not top class...since he has not won any big trophy....
He is not a top class man either....just look at his press conferences...trying to blame
his players, trying to ridicule Rijkaard...having no clue about what it means to manage
Liverpool.....always pumping up his "experience" and "methods"

Owen Coyle...will be happy to beat Liverpool and leave us in the bottom 3....and
say "Roy needs time....".
Every manager is coming out and saying he needs time....

Konchesky is saying he has faith in Roy.....he will turn things around....
of course you will say that....It was Roy who got you here....
Has Torres and Reina come out recently and said Roy needs time ?
They are smart...they can see the club has gone backwards...

Everyone is saying Liverpool are a struggling club....and Roy needs time to rebuild !!
WHAT DO YOU MEAN....did we survive relegation last year ????
We were always in or around the TOP 4 for the last 9 years......we are not some struggling
club...UNTIL Roy Hodgson took over.....When are the media and these people going to see it?
When we finish in the bottom half this season ??? Is that when they will admit they were
wrong to drive Rafa out and replace him with this "top class" man !!

Roy's quotes:
“If we want the right quality, we have got to be prepared to pay the right price," Hodgson told Liverpool’s official website today.

"The owners know that perfectly well. We have got to make certain that if we go out and spend 20 million pounds, we are getting a 20 million player.

"We want to be attracting the players that Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter are chasing. It would be nice to think that we can shop at a high level.”

----

how about first getting a top manager that is equivalent or close
to the managers at Real and Barca and INTER ....oops...did'nt
we just let one go to Inter...
Then we can attract those top players as well !!
