Yeah but this is Al-Fayed! How much of what he says can anyone take seriously anyway!?

In the same interview, he also says that Hughes is gonna bring them the championship!

The same man who was seen as a a wizard for what he did with Fulham, is now completely worthless...the influence of managers/coaches is exagerated both when things are going well or bad...

Liverpool was already abysmall last season...

Remember what he says to the press isn't necessarily what he's thinking or saying behind the scenes. Infact it's probably quite different.

Last year when you were shit, the blame was placed solely with the owners - how could Rafa operate in these conditions?! But now it's all silly old Roy's fault. Useless midtable chancer who got lucky with the biggest club in the world. How dare he even try to manage your club.

The fact is you lost the match because your players showed absolutely no bottle or fight, Captain Fantastic Mr Gerrard once again leading by example. Everton were hungrier for the win, quicker to every ball, and fought harder. It's Hodgson's job to motivate but like someone said earlier, if players can't get pumped for the Mersyside derby then something's seriously wrong. Most managers would struggle to pick up this bunch at the minute, why do you think Roy is trying to remain positive in his comments to the media? If he comes out and says their bollocks (like he did when you lost to Northampton, which he was criticised for!!) then morale depletes further and things get even worse. Things have been on a downward spiral since last season, this is nothing new.

Hodgson's not doing a good job by any means but the pressure and scrutiny he's been put under is unfair. Basically, his face doesn't fit for fans who see themselves as a club who should win things and think they should have a big name manager.

Liverpool lost not only because they were lacking motivation but because there was no one to make them realize que mistakes that were being made on the pitch.
First of all, your full backs did nothing all game. Carragher is a CB by nature thus not making him that attacking minded, yet when he attacked he was crap because he was an "adapted" FB. Konchesky, lol what a joke. I won't even say anything because there was nothing of him all game.
Then we go to the Midfield where Gerrard is clueless about his job. He just roams around and tries to do everything without doing nothing. Lucas was meh. Only playing in the whole team that actually tried to change anything during the entire game was Meireles.
Joe Cole and Maxi were HORRIBLE and that's being gentle. They were (imo) 50% of the reason why you lost. They kept on channelling the game towards the centre and never made Everton drag their game towards the line (even for an EPL that has ridiculous amounts of space between sectors).
Torres only has 2 gears, slow or stopped. He already lost his spot to Villa and apparently to Llorente in the spanish team, lets see if he doesn't get the same treatment in Liverpool. Not likelly since every1 praise him, but the Torres that moved to Liverpool in 2007 is far gone. This one is slow in everything, deciding, running, finishing, simply pathetic.

Then there are the substitutions in the 80th minute which is hilarious. I even found more laughable that both Joe Cole and Maxi were both still on the pitch for the 2nd half.
You better start thinking about 2011/2012 because this is going to be another frustrating year for Liverpool.

The rot started last season with the sale of Alonso,
the signing of Aquilani and Johnson....
Rafa made a lot of mistakes.....I don't think Hicks and Gillett
were to blame for all the problems last season....
since we finished 2nd under their ownership...
reached a CL final...and semi and Q-final and
we signed Torres, Mascherano under their watch....

Rafa left a crap team to Roy.....BUT they are not so crap that
they should be in the bottom 2....

Roy has come in....and he should have done this
- found a decent backup to Torres.....I mean...come on....
can't we have got anyone decent ??? ...we were linked with so
many strikers....and not one landed.....why ?
- yet we somehow signed Poulsen.....and Joe Cole.....Cole has
no excuse...he has been in the PL for a decade...why would
Chelsea get rid of him....should'nt we have known he's not that good..
- Why did we resign Aurelio...who is so injury prone ....
and got Konchesky on top of that....
- Why did we not even sign 1 winger ?
We have absolutely no width....and if normal fans like us can
see these deficiencies...what was the need to sign more central
midfielders and a left-back....totally clueless.

Sure the players are not doing any justice....but you've got to ask....
the question why....they seemed disillusioned under Rafa last year...
understandably....we had lost 1 big part of our midfield in Alonso...
we had no backup for Torres.....
But the management DID NOTHING to fix that....we have lost Mascherano
and look clueless in midfield and attack...
The manager is unable to do anything to fix it....
He cannot motivate....he cannot put some fire under the players ...

I fear for giving any more money to Hodgson......he will waste it
just like he did at Blackburn.....
think of it.....who has he managed in the last 10 years ?....
Would Chelsea or Arsenal or United or Man City or Tottenham
want to sign Hodgson...the answer is no.
He was not under pressure at Fulham.....and he did well at
that club...we can't deny that....
But under the high pressure situation at Liverpool....
he is not the right person.

I feel even Gerard Houllier would have been better....he's not doing
too bad at Villa.

I don't know who the best manager for Liverpool is...
who would want to come here ?...
I feel it will be
a- Someone who loves the club
b- Someone who has the guts to make drastic changes to the playing staff
and in tactics when things are not working
c- Someone who wants good attacking football...with a good eye for
skilful players....no more Poulsens/Lucas/Coles/Meireles/Maxi type players.

That's exactly what I was thinking, Torres form is pathetic, Llorente is way better than him nowadays, but I'm suspect to talk since I have a Llorente pic in my windows acount. :P

Poulsen, Konchesky, Maxi, Cole, Johnson, Babel - what's this? They seems like League 2 players. :TTTH:

Liverpool`s problem can`t be underline . I wonder what players are being told and how many staff are in the dark. New owners are not coming in like a relay race no baton to pass too . They don`t even know the schedule for the races. Most confident Managers have full control and Hodges maybe has 30 % control, He was not suppose to succeed ,but maybe things can change and let him grab the bull by the horns.

I think Hodgson will probably be gone at the end of the season, probably pretty early on with a new manager getting a substantial amount of money to bring in players and get rid of the crap.

What I will say is do you think you would been better of this season if Rafa was still here? I don't.

Yes, I think we would be in the top four. We ended last season playing very good football, it was a question of investing right Mascherano ´s fee and I trust 100 % Rafa in all his buys. Plus Torres, under Benitez, is completely different striker. Someone posted here some numbers about Torres and Eto´o performance under Rafa and without Rafa. Impressive.

for Man United to have three 2-2 draws....

Roy Hodgson says that was Liverpool's best performance in a 2:0
defeat....having won 1 out of 8...

I completely agree wit jumbo's last post.
People in this thread seem to forget that they were fed up with Raffa last season.
Hodgson never had a fair chance with the fans (and maybe also with the players, which should explain a lot).

Liverpool should rebuild a completely new team...sell players like Gerrard, Carragher, Torres and others. With the money this genrates you can buy a young hungry team...Players like Gerrard and Carrragher are seen as heroes, to me they are failures, these icons never succeeded to win the title for Liverpool. I was very excited and happy for Liverpool when they won that unbelievable CL final, but you got to admit that this was a freak win...replay that match 100 times and Milan will always win it...In retrospect this win was not a good thing for the club it blinded everyone for the obvious shortcommings of the Liverpool team and the bad transfers Raffa did.

Tactically Benitez is a star, but he's rather inept in his transfers...he scarcely used which was potentially his best transfer: Aquilani. This player could have become an icon for Liverpool.

Rafa wasn't inept with his transfers, he had quite a few very very good signings (Do I really need to list them?!) and quite a few very very crap signings. Besides Gerrard and Carra he signed the spine of the team which was one of the strongest in Europe: Reina, Agger, Alonso, Masch, Torres, Kuyt for (6+6+10+18+20+10) = 70 mil.

He also signed quite a few dross but nobody (besides maybe Aquilani?) that was expensive. He was looking for bargins, and as my mother always proves, it's a waste of money most of the time.

The thing that worried me yesterday more then anything was that Roy looked as if he was talking to Sammy for tactical advise at one point in the 2nd half.

Always had a soft spot for liverpool, but watching them this season is painful. Zero confidence and that has to come from the management.

For hodgson to say that was a great second had performance and the best he has seen Liverpool play, (even if he privately doesn't think it) is just embarrassing. He is becoming s laughing stock and the players wont respect that, let alone the fans who only hear what he has to say publicly.

Pool have so many good players, enough for at least a top 6 finish, which in itself, should be considered a dreadful season. Half of your squad is good enough for the top 3 I'd say. Players like Reina, Johnson, gerrard, torres and probably carragher if played as a cb, would get into arsenal, man u, Chelsea or city. So where is it going wrong?

The fact most of those players are out of form is what is causing the problems and again, I think that comes from the hierarchy to give them confidence. Gerrard should be strolling around dominating games and we know torres can score goals with the right service.

I've said before this season, Gerrard is not playing forward enough to support torres like he was last year, which is odd as I am sure hodgson was one of the pundits on BBC moaning about capello not playing him in his best position. Also, gerrard should be respected enough now to be able to go to Roy and say "this isn't working play me up the park".

Cannot see any way out now for Liverpool unless hodgson goes, I think it's that bad already. Do the owners give him a load of cash in Jan and if things don't get better then it's a waste? I'd get rid asap, bring in someone else with enough time to assess the squad and make changes in Jan before it's too late.

Liverpool in the championship would be the biggest story in world football for absolutely YEARS.

I really wouldn't trust Hodgson with spending NESV's money in January. Chris Brunt for £9m? More Konchesky's? Shipping out Insua and Aquilani? No thanks.

Liverpool will comfortably stay up...at the moment nothing is lost.
This team is not relegation fodder. This team can reach a place in the Euro League (but not more than that).

Raffa had indeed some good transfers like Kuyt.
I alos rate Agger, Benayoun and Riera rather high, but he never played them enough to give them confidence.

Even Fowler said yesterday, we're NOT too good to go down. He said that he thought the Leeds team that were relegated actually had better players than we've got and look what happened.

This is shaping up to be a perfect repeat of Hodgson's management of Blackburn where he effectively got them relegated.

I'd sell Torres asap. Doesn't want to play for Liverpool and frankly, his touch is shit. Has been shit since he joined. With good service he scores goals. Granted and that's what it's all about. But play a ball into him and it doesn't stick. He constantly loses the ball when running at defenders too.

He's lost his place in the Spain team because he doesn't fit into their style of play as he's technically (meaning touch, vision etc) not good enough.

It doesn't help having Robots playing behind him though. No creativity. No flair. Too slow thinking wise. Nobody can beat a man. Just plain boring watching them play.

Liverpool only played well in last 30 mins and can sort of understand what Woy is saying when he mentioned it's the best Liverpool have played. Unfortunately, you have to play better for 90 mins, not just 30 and by then the game was over anyway!

The team he put out was probably the best avaialable to him. All this blaming managers has always got on my nerves. I'm not saying he's good enough or bad enough but the players on the pitch should be performing better. Period. Once over the line, it's up to them to perform!

Losing in a derby happens, but losing to Blackpool at home is shocking. Players need to look at themselves and using the manager as an excuse all the time is bullshit!

Both take their blame, but Roy is setting the players out to play like Fulham. He's not taking advantage of any of the player strengths at all.

Joe Cole should be running at players with the ball, not cutting in on his right foot and putting crosses in.

Torres should be getting the ball fed through for him to run onto, not dealing with long balls.

Meireles should be playing centre midfield, not right wing.

Those are just a few examples.
