Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

So, another season of playing Ngog upfront when Torres, inevitably, gets injured. Lovely.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Roy's gonna play Ngog before him. And Dirk before Maxi. Beggar's belief.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Looks like Tom Hicks was right in January then. This summer really has been big for us, what with January being a rubbish market for buying players and the summer being much better.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yes it is disappointing to not get a new striker....
Ngog and Babel, are really not the answers....
but neither was C.Cole.

Konchesky, may not be inspiring....but he is a decent left-back
which is good enough at this stage considering our options of
A- putting Agger out of position
B- relying on an injury-prone Aurelio
C- Insua not good defensively..

I doubt Joe Cole or Jovanovic will do too much.....they are squad players..
so is Kuyt .....
Mereiles is good...but again....not tested in the EPL...

Just feel a distinct lack of flair....we have a lot of good workman
like players.....
So I guess it will be some achievement to get into the Top 4....
Unless we get new owners and funds soon.

Re: Liverpool Thread

i just came from work so i did not followed Konchesky signing just now...

but guys please tell me we did not gave them Lauri...please tell me it is joke...

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think giving Babel a chance up front in his actual position might work wonders.

Of course I may have lost my mind a long time ago and it could be the worst thing Roy could do.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Oh my, we let go one of our most talented youngsters and a player that was going to qualify as a homegrown for the future, to bring a mediocre old player. And we also give them a youngster that had score a lot of goals and seemed to have a future here.
Nice work Roy ! Come one, lets keep aging our squad and destroying our academy.

Umm, he's given more starts/minutes to Pacheco and Kelly, than Rafa gave them in 2 years. Hardly destroying the academy?

Well, that isn't strictly true now is it?

Benitez used the likes of El Zhar and Insua much more because they were slightly older than Kelly and Pacheco and now Hodgson is using those two and getting rid of Dalle Valle and Kacaniklic (and Insua) as he apparently doesn't know much about them he said. So there's no real difference between Benitez's use of our young players and Hodgson's use of them. Except Benitiz did spend a lot of time researching our youth players and seeing how they played rather than just selling them because he didn't know them.

Re: Liverpool Thread

If Roy has said that about Dalla Valle then he needs a smack.

However, I think it's too easy to get emotional about Lauri - he didn't really impress in the couple of pre-season appearances and for someone to be worth worrying about, he should have been well above the reserves standard last season.

Saying that, I'm still baffled how we've ended up no better off (in the transfer window).

Oh, no, wait, no I'm not, cause I've just remembered who the owners are and our financial situation.

All of those people who say "it's nothing to do with the owners" when we next get beat need to remember it's those two fuckwits that are trimming our squad to the bare bones.

Re: Liverpool Thread

By losing Dalla Valle and Nemeth, we're actually two strikers down than what we were originally.

i belive our manager has little to say about this summers transfers...maybe Poulsen and Konchesky was his job...other i belive was job of Purslow...

he is 18 (!) scored 3 goals in 8 appereances for Finland U21..and has all the atributes to become great striker...at least we should loaned him to Fulham like Manchester loaned Cleverley to Wigan...but no, we sold him...................

I think that the only transfer that was Puslow job was Joe Cole, he was brought here because a player of his category brings optimism and marketing. Shelvey and Wilson were Rafa's job (one brought under him and the other one, brought under Hodgson but had agreed terms with Rangers and him when Rafa was here).
Then we are left with Poulsen, Meireles and Konchesky. And I think that the three were Hodgson's buys.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Liverpool FC has submitted its 21-man squad to the Premier League. Home grown players: Carragher, Cole, Darby, Gerrard, Johnson, Jones, Konchesky, Spearing. Non home grown: Agger, Aurelio, Babel, Jovanovic, Kuyt, Kyrgiakos, Leiva, Meireles, Poulsen, Reina, Rodriguez, Skrtel, Torres. Roy Hodgson can also call on U21s Gulacsi, Kelly, Wilson, Shelvey, Pacheco, Eccleston and Ngog for Barclays Premier League games.

21-man :BRICK:

Re: Liverpool Thread

Years of poor youth development and buying young foreigners has come back to bite you on the arse I guess. I actually feel a bit bad for you.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Just looks depressing..... the only hope we have is that Hodgson can make these players overachieve similar to what he did at Fulham.....
otherwise it will be a battle to qualify for the Europa League.

Truly the expectations will be low this year.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ngog is home grown? Can someone post all HG players under 21 ?

No he's not homegrown but somehow he's counted as an under-21 player - of which you can have as many as you like - in spite of the fact that he is 21 and has been since April and therefore not under 21

The under-21 players don't have to be homegrown and don't need to be registered, only players over 21 have to be registered as part of the 25 man squad.

Re: Liverpool Thread

The under 21 rule works with their birth dates rather than there age so he must just scrape through.

Re: Liverpool Thread

So now Masch is saying that Liverpool told lies and he didn't want to move because of his family? Why doesn't he just tell us exactly why then?!

Cracking player for us, bit of an idiot off the pitch.
