Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Benayoun hasn't left yet, and it won't be £4m, Liverpool rejected a £4m bid and asked for £10m, the actual amount being discussed is believed to be closer to £6m, but no deal has been agreed yet.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yep, £6.5m is the expected amount.

Wouldn't be surprised to see the two Chelsea chairman sort out Torres to follow Benayoun too.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Last time we played Arsenal at home to start the season, Dalglish was in charge.

Another interesting note:

Utd at home to promoted side on opening day for 6th time in 13 yrs.10th at home in all. We're at home for first time since 2003.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Rumours that Pellegrini is meeting with Dalglish in London. His agent has denied anything, but then his dialling tone was English when called...

Seems to be building up momentum...

I fucking hope no. I didnt like him when he coached River.

Re: Liverpool Thread

you know, he's had a couple of kinda big jobs since then. He's a much better manager now, i wouldn't mind Pellegrini tbh.

Really ? He was shit when he coached in Chile too, and he had a very good squad, just like in River, where he had a top squad, maybe the last good team River had.
I think that the only two clubs were he had success where San Lorenzo and Villarreal. In Madrid, he had a superb squad and, despite making an amazing LFP, he failed in key matches, not to mention what happened in the "Copa del Rey" and Champions League.
He is going to be our own Juande Ramos.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Pellegrini offered the job yesterday morning ...

Pellegrini's lawyer: "I cannot confirm or deny anything. All I can say is that there is an offer from England."

Re: Liverpool Thread

At any other club in the world he'd still be manager now after last season, but Real Madrid is such a joke of a club that you're sacked after 1 season if you don't win everything.

His record as a national team manager means roughly fuck all tbh

At Villareal he managed to get them their best ever season with an average squad finishing second and also got them to the latter stages of the Champions' League including the semis in 2006. The current state Liverpool are in requires a manager who can get us to punch above our weight, he's capable of that.

Yes, you may be right that he is now much better than when he was in River. And I agree that, after the League he made, Real Madrid shouldn't have sacked him.
However, English football is very very different to the footballs where Pellegrini has coached so far.
I would have gone for Hodgson, but let's hope that hiring Pellegrini turns out to be a very good decision.
Mourinho > Madrid
Benitez > Inter
Pellegrini > Liverpool

One thing I like about Pellegrini is the kind of football he like to play. Going from Rafa to him, will be a huge change.

Pellegrini would be f'n awesome! but Liverpool's problem isn't really the coach is it? So in some ways I'm not excited about this like I normally would be. :/

I mean a lot of people don't like Rafa and I certainly don't agree with many of the things he did but I didn't really think, Benitez was the problem. If anything he moved the club forward since taking over but could've done even better and does deserve the blame for much of last season imo.

I think Inter should've gone for Pellegrini. A straight swap between Jose and Manuel. Then I could see them winning CL even again back-to-back which would prove there's a lot more to Inter and why they're successful than Mourinho (who was also a big factor and of course deserves his credit)

Anyhow, Manuel would be fantastic. I would want him at my club for sure and yeah of course Madrid are idiots for getting rid of him but what else is new... and with them having set their sight on Jose and him wanting to go there, it was inevitable despite the amazing La Liga season they just had.

@UJ, Pellegrini deserves a LOT of credit and I'm one of his biggest fans but that Villarreal side was by no means an 'average' side. It was full of very good under-rated players with much ability yet not that much reputation, and some even had huge reputations like Sorin, Riquelme, Forlan, etc.

Yeh i know they were a good side mate, but by 'average' i meant compared to the likes of Madrid, Barca, Valencia and even Atletico at that time. He overachieved with them in the same way that Rafa did with Valencia and Liverpool.

I agree with you that the new manager doesn't matter as much as it should, whoever it is won't be given enough support from the owners and that is a recipe for disaster. The sooner these two American cunts go the better.

Looks like someone in direct contact with Liverpool's board is on this forum ;)

Reveal yourself!

Re: Liverpool Thread

I really hope it is Pellegrini.
He gets his teams to play good attacking football.

I would not want Hodgson...yes he did brilliantly at Fulham,
but he is not the long term solution.

Pellegrini would be perfect....he has managed Real Madrid
to their highest point total in a long time...and were pipped
by a Brilliant Barca...
His record at Villareal is exemplary...

But the longer we are without a manager....it seems to imply
one thing....our new manager could be managing at the World Cup
and that may be the delay.
(Not sure who it may be among them... I hope it is not Eriksson !)
Lippi won't leave Italy...he doesnt speak English.
Paul Le Guen , Ottmar Hitzfeld, Del Bosque, maybe ?

Either Pellegrini or Dalglish for me.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hitzfeld would be sensational! But I've heard nothing about it. That'd be exciting though! If not, Pellegrini is the man!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Imagine the uproar if Domenech was appointed!!

(I wouldn't put it passed the owners either)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Need to find a copy of Rafa's last interview but he revealed Purslow is a snake, just to confirm what we knew anyway really.

Fucking muppets in charge of our club and running it into the ground :BRICK:

Re: Liverpool Thread

ah i didn't realise he'd said anything controversial on the City interview, i'd read that he was on but didn't listen. Will have a listen tomorrow when it's online.

some people don't realise the amount Rafa and Montse did for the local area, they'll be sorely missed by a huge amount of people, truly great people the two of them.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm not even going to click the link and I can tell you it's not true. Koptalk are full of shit.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well the BBC confirmed he flew home from being a pundit for them in SA to talk to Liverpool I think?

Re: Liverpool Thread

just to add to Dags' comment - ask yourself this - why would a fan-driven site have any rights to an exclusive? it's been 24 hours since they posted that and there's still no news.

It's very likely to be Woy but nothing Koptalk are saying hasn't been speculated elsewhere.

I think he only stayed out there in case England went out and Capello resigned?

KopTalk isn't strictly a fan driven site as such, Duncan Oldham - the thieving, lying cunt who owns the site - used to be a fan of another team until a few years ago, can't remember who, might be Sunderland. He often makes up stories and has a load of invented sources, he's unanimously hated in by Liverpool fans.

Re: Liverpool Thread

The French press is saying you're trying to hire Deschamps. Any truth ?
