Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

That's a good read - the transfer fund comments concern me though where's saying "if we sell anyone then I'll get to spend that but other than that there's nowt promised".

Re: Liverpool Thread

Rafa wasn't even given all of the money from player sales so that's something I suppose.

But like I've said, promises were made to Rafa and broken, I'm sure they'll do the same with Roy.

The thing is, Roy knows about our board and the mess they are. He's either very brave, confident, or stupid, thinking he can go in and run the club how he wants without the muppets cocking it up.

Interesting times, as they say.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Tbh he is in a no lose situation imo. If he doesn't do well with the same players then he can moan about the owners and the poor squad and downward spiral already present, if he doesn't do well with player sold then what do we expect and if he does do well he's great.

It's no more then two years, more likely to be no more then a year, and if he can the team in the top 6 he's done a good job, any higher is great.

Re: Liverpool Thread

He can't really justify doing poorly by blaming owners/finances/poor squad when he knew full well what was getting himself into before he joined us.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Anyone else thinking this has been written by someone on behalf of Gerrard?

And anyone else thinking there's a lack of statement suggesting he'll be working with him next season?

----------------------------------------------------------

Steven Gerrard today backed the appointment of Roy Hodgson by declaring: "He's the right man for LFC."

"The club have made a good appointment in Roy Hodgson," the 30-year-old told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"Rafa left a few weeks ago and I know the club were determined to take their time and get the right man for the job.

"Roy is hugely experienced and I believe he is the right man for Liverpool.

"I think it's been worth the wait and I'm sure he's just keen now to get on with it and start to quickly put in place his plans for the new season.

Re: Liverpool Thread

There is a lack of mentioning him at the club, maybe he's waiting to see what Roy has to say first but I expecting Gerrard to go more than stay.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Thats a shame Dags.

I can't imagine how many people will be there - could be anything from a couple of hundred to a few thousand!

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think this is a great appointment for LFC.

Roy is the kind of manager we need....
simple, down to earth, honest, hard working, non-complaining, non-controversial, no-mind-games,
experienced with European football, reasonably successful
in limited teams,
he can take our team to the maximum of their potential..
playing people in their correct position, making astute signings
under a smaller budget,

Re: Liverpool Thread

UJSupanova Dempsy might be overrated in your view, but as the situation with our owners and money is difficult, we might get used to not attract the world class players anymore. Not becouse of the club is bad or not one of the best, but becouse there is even in premier league two or three clubs that have better financial support from owners than us...

About Hogson i say...it is a nice guy, good coach but i am worried and sceptic that he can get us on the same level in europe that Rafa did...we might wait for 4:0 crashin of Real madrid in future... I am more happy we chainge the style of our play...hopefully to 442

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yep, that's been written into the deal.

Just watched the bit of conference that BBC have, it's clear that Hodgson has been told his place. He's not getting involved anywhere near the money situation, it sounds like he's conceded defeat on playing being sold and he's "not spoken about transfers really". Riiiiight, because if I was to join a club as a manager, I'd want to know exactly where I stood with regards to transfers.

Also noted him calling Purslow the "chief executive". Funny considering he was hired as a managing director with the aim of finding a new CE to replace Rick Parry.

you're skeptical about Hodgson because he might not be as good as Rafa but you think we should get Dempsey? He's not as good as Lucas for a start. We had one bad season and have a pair of stupid cunts running the place but i don't for one second believe that we should be looking for players at Dempsey's level, we definitely should be aiming higher than that.

i just started a new job so i'm not 100% certain but i'm planning to be there myself, they applied for insurance for up to 10,000 people and i know for a fact that there's loads of people travelling from America and Europe for this.

Dempsey's not that bad mate, he raises himself for big games too and has a knack of getting important goals.

first of all i dont compare Dempsey and Lucas..Lucas imo is good player and was one of most consistent last season..

but anyway..i dont say we dont have to focus on better players, but like i said..we might be not the club the best players come when thinking about their salary...City can beat any salary we offer i think.. the same Chelsea and United... it is only to find players that want to play for us.. Rafa did that always...first thing he thought of buying his players was fact, they prefeured our club before any other...it was such with Torres, Reina, Riera, Benayoun, Skrtel, Agger, Maxi, etc...

the second thing is we have now big competition with City and even Tottenham...so the fight for big 4 is much complicated..

that is why i dont get so much excited we have new coach...we need to have new owners...then new stadium...the rest will come after that..

that was my point.

what's the point in signing Lucas when we have better midfielders here, i'd also rather have Babel, Kuyt, Rodriguez, Aquilani etc. in the midfield ahead of him, he'd be a squad player at best.

Re: Liverpool Thread

this depends on new system of play...basicly it depends on how we play and who we manage to buy...

Lucas is not that bad imo..i would keep him in squad if i was manager :P

My dream is to have Ozil from Werder in our squad...as a player we lack big time...a true playmaker... Stevie is not this type.. Maybe Aquilani will be played in this position but only if he stays..

Re: Liverpool Thread

i didn't say Lucas was bad, i like Lucas i think he gets a ridiculously unfair amount of criticism. My point was that a lot of fans want rid of Lucas but he's better than Dempsey.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well since Dempsey plays on either wing or behind a striker, it's a silly comparison.

He'd be a good squad signing anyway, given his versatility and the lack of squad depth you have at the moment.

Re: Liverpool Thread

All in all , I think it is an exciting time.

I think Roy will be a great coach who will get the players
confident again.... he will get them playing to the best of their
potential.

The solution is not always about buying new players.
If Roy can get this team to play to the maximum potential
with each player playing in his most effective position, then
I think Liverpool will do well.

Sure we may need 3 good players to add ...
Not from Fulham, Roy has agreed not to raid his old club.

I hope Yossi does not leave, he is skilful and the type
of player who can unlock defences...

I am sure we will see much better from Babel, Acquilani.

I hope we sell Mascherano for 20-25million and use that
to get 2 players who actually want to play for LFC.

I was comparing him to the general quality of our midfielders at the moment and my point was that our most criticised midfielder is still a better player, even in the advanced midfield role. But even in Dempseys preferred positions we have better players. We don't need to sign more squad players, we need some better players so the current squad players we have can go back to being squad players rather than starting every week (Insua, Kuyt, Lucas etc.)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well considering it's fairly possible one of Mascherano or Gerrard could leave, maybe Lucas will shine next year.

Rafa kept him on such a tight leash but perhaps Hodgson will let him loose and finally he'll be the player he promised to be in Brazil.

Wonder what'll happen to Aquilani next year...
