Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Torres and Masch were not bargains.

I think you made about £3m on Voronin, looked like a confidence thing with him tbh or something specific to the club or England in general as he was good when he went back to Germany in between. Strange.

Torres cost £20m or so, worth far more now.
Mascherano cost £18m, going to Inter for £30m? Linked with Barca for a while at around £25m-£30m.

Both players have been superb and easily worth their value.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah I agree, Torres at 20M at the time was a huge risk. but he's worth 3 times that know.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm not saying they weren't good signings or are not worth more now but well known players costing in excess of £18m each can't really be described as bargains can they?

Re: Liverpool Thread

I thought a bargain was when you got something for a lot less than it's worth, not if you buy something and it becomes worth more over time.

If I buy a really nice house for £200,000 in an area where the market price for similar is say £450,000, then I got a bargain.

If I buy an ok house for £100,000 and spend time doing work on it and make it look nice then sell it 5 years later for £300,000 then I just got a good return on my investment and reward for my hard work, it doesn't make my initial buy a bargain.

Both players were well known, and you didn't get either paticularly cheaply. The fact both are worth a lot more doesn't make them a bargain IMO, it just means you did a good job with improving them and the players did well to develop.

Re: Liverpool Thread

when you buy something for X amount of price regardless of what it is and then in 12 months times it is worth 3 times that amount

i would say you got a "bargain" at the time

also raffa may of thought torres was a bargain at that price, other managers may of thought he was a risk. Raffa bought torres for X amount and now he is worth 3 times the amount paid for

raffa got a bargain :P (or lucky some would say)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Fair enough, I disagree but it's not really important, both were good signings I just wouldn't describe them as bargains. Like I wouldn't say we got Rooney for a bargain at £30m or Ronaldo a bargain at £12m despite both being worth more now because it was a lot money and a risk at the time.

An example of a bargain I'd say was Sneijder going to Inter for £12m last summer as he was worth more at the time.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Did we actually earn money on the Pornstar? He was signed for free but can't remember if he left or got sold....

we got £1.8m for him, which is pretty good considering he was widely hated by Liverpool fans

tbf to him, in his first pre-season and after a few games he did look really good (leading some fans to say he was the bargain of the year and Rafa's best buy, this was the same time he'd just bought Torres )

edit: didn't notice there was another page, only on this forum could you have an entire page dedicated to arguing about the definition of the word 'bargain'

yeh against Toulouse, it was a beauty. In the Basiktas 8-0 he was involved in 6 of the goals, he was brilliant, he got an injury and never recovered it seemed, plus he had a fucking ponytail  unforgivable.

compared to what United payed for Nani for example...Torres was bargain indeed...

not to mention other players like Berbatov....

I said my own opinion.. you dont have to agree..

honestly like i read, nobody would EVER mention Hodgson to replace Rafa, since the rumours of him ending LFC job appeard first...everybody is overjoyed with Hodgson as new manager after he made Fulham look top club in UEFA cup..but as i writen above, i honestly dont think he has the ability to prove himself for us, not to take us higher or overcome Rafas success...

Dalglish might be away from the center stage, but he has always been close to the club, players, board and fans..

i doubt he dont have the ability to get us out of the mess..especialy to manage our current players and young players...

Hodgson's gone abroad and proved himself, don't see how anyone could bring up his past managerial record to criticise him.

He's well respected in football so I don't see how he might have trouble with the current players, although I don't know how good he is in dealing with young players.

I totally agree. Other bargains were Robben, Kranjcar, Evra. And for me, Aquilani was a bargain, he is worth much more than 17 €.

Re: Liverpool Thread

not yet he isn't, he's still got a lot to prove.
Fair enough. But if we follow the definition that Jumbo gave of bargain, then he would be. According to him (and I agree) a bargain is when you pay less than what you should have.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Let's see if this post can get us into a 3rd page of arguing about what a Bargin is.

I agree with Jumbo, a bargin is something you buy knowing it's worth far more. Masch had already showed his quality and 18mil is a reasonable price for a DM. Torres was a risk but still an expensive one. Both great buys, not bargins.

However buying something broken for far less isn't a bargin. That's just being cheap! :P

Yes, you re right.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Benayoun's left for Chelsea and Mascherano came out with this today

“I am learning Italian while I’m here in South Africa,” the Liverpool midfielder said. "I don’t know what I will do after the tournament. We shall see.”

Seems like he's off to Inter.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hmmm, Beni Noon for 4mil?! That's a bargin! Glad to see the new Chelsea Chairman doing good business for Chelsea....shame he's working at Liverpool.
