Dags - good points mate.

Stevie has issues, either on the pitch or, if the rumours are to be believed, off it.

Eitherway, his performances are just a shadow of what he's given us in the past so perhaps I'd go with your suggestion.

I just think with Masch, there'll always be that question mark about when he's going to leave; last nights interview did nothing to reassure me so you can't plan for the long term if a key part of your sqwaaad is going to need replacing anyway.

Aqua is Stevie's replacement if Stevie is no longer considered a Central Midfielder and is now a second striker but like you, I don't think one of Rafa or Aqua will be here past July (and quite possibly both) so who friggen knows what's going to happen next season?

Lucas can tackle, but he is not Masche. I guess we will find out how important Masche was when he goes to Barcelona. Just like Real Madrid did with Makelele.
I dont think that a star like Aquilani should be fighting for a place. Gerrard isnt fighting and he has been average all the season. Even Aquilani in the trequartista role, like against Tottenham for instance, would do better.

Agree with Dags, the way Gerrard has played this season, and at 30, a 30mil bid would be decent business.

The problem with Lucas, and he had a good game and has been decent all season, is that he doens't offer much in any regard to the team. His passing ability is pretty average but for a couple of good through balls from time to time. Defensively he's ok, but hasn't got the speed / will to charge down half the pitch. He offers nothing in attack as he has no speed or shooting ability to do damage. SO you are always left with a players that is tidy and keeps possesion but needs the others around him to make anything happen. Offcourse the problems this season aren't down to him, poor form in the defense and attack have played a far bigger part. But in the current system with the players he offers nothing to make it better.

He's a great utility player for resting the others and I would like to see him stay at the club as he has been improving all season and is still young. But really for the majority of league games the midfield should be Masch, Aquilani/Beni and Gerrard with the last two playing more upfield. They have the skill and ability to keep the ball and pick a pass for the attackers (Torres and the wingers).

It's a problem that has been present the whole season, and was visible last season in games like Stoke away. With both Lucas and Masch in the same midfield the attack is starved. Gerrard can't do it on his own when he generally only has either Kuyt or Beni/Babel/etc near him, with Torres up front.

It's pretty shocking that this has been visible for quite some time and yet we continue to play the same system with the wrong players. You would think Benitez is just to stubborn to see that one of the two has to change. Either pick different players and tweak the system or change the system to suit the players.

As for the result, 1-0 isn't much and is a decent result really. Don't think they can keep a clean sheet at anfield (assuming we actually set the team up to attack) so hopefully a 3-1 win will be enough. Can't see us keeping a clean sheet either.

I can see that happening, with Masch possibly being dropped to avoid suspension and Lucas as the holding player. We'll put in a good performance, score a few goals, display some nice passing moves and move into the final looking confident.

Then come the final, we'll have Lucas and Masch back in the middle and N'gog up front on his own again. The team will be setup to defend and not let in a goal and Johnson will be shouted every time he goes past the halfway line.

I've defended Benitez all season, but he really is too stubborn for his own good sometimes. I honestly don't think the players are at fault, it's the tactics and mentality.

Also, we've won every PL game that Aquilani has started, so why not try him in the UEFA cup for once? I remember his MOTM performance and then he was dropped the next game *facepalm*

Why a player that has been the MOTM on 3 of the 6 games he started and had contributed with 3 assists and 1 goal in 6 games is dropped, is beyond everyone.

Sorry, i know you're blind to anything negative about Aquilani, but no he wasn't man of the match in 3 of the 6 games he started, in at least two of them he was completely anonymous.

Plus you (and others) completely ignore the injuries he's had and the amount of times in the past month he's actually said he's injured, instead you blame Benitez every time for ignoring him rather than the truth that Aquilani isn't strong enough at the minute.

how are liverpool fans reacting to theese rumours about rafa leaving for juve this summer? what's the general consent around rafa in liverpool right now? do u think the majority of the fans would be happy about him leaving or not?
and also how much truth do u guys think there is in theese rumours? :))

coz, according to italian media, it seems like an almost done deal already (but i'm not really sure about it).

Rafa should stay not sure Juve will give him more clout. Rafa was closer last season than ever and did some poor dealing in the transfer market that didn`t fair to good.Rafa has the experience and knows very well his mistakes and he knows how to turn it around. 1 or 2 players (Alonso innit.) can make a team difference he just needs the belief in the players NOT!!! the nostalgia look that Gerrard gives getting mixed signals for other players,fans & owners to undermined the gaffer .

If you remember Fabregas after Veira left getting knock on his arse at every whim :LOL: I fully understand Liverbird`s state. 1 season it took or 1.5 season to be accurate and fabregas whole game got better and stronger. Look at Song in the beginning of the season everyone was on ...We need a CDM after that fart buggered off to Milan and Song had a dire season or less of a strong to be polite and now, he`s a beast . Lucas will be the same Rafa gives him the nod ,because you build loyalty by giving it.Lucas will be stronger and better and more important a player that feels worth.

Against Tottenham, Portsmouth and Fulham he was the man of the match, at least that is my opinion.
In which two matchs you say he was shit, cause I dont agree at all.

Alberto himself could tell you that he had a bad game and you wouldn't accept it.

Aquilani was MOTM against Portsmouth, but against Tottenham the only thing he did was the pass to Kuyt, he was average for the rest of the game, Kuyt was man of the match and Kyrgiakos was brilliant as well.

As for the Fulham 0-0, nobody played well in that game and the only reason people spoke of Aquilani is because he attempted an overhead kick. He was shit against Fiorentina and didn't do much against Villa.

I really like Aquilani and i hope he gets into the team properly, but i'm not blind, i admit when players have bad games even if i like the player.

Now you tell it, you are right. He was shit against Aston Villa, and he was also pretty average against Fiorentina, but it was his first start in 8 months.
About Tottenham, it is incredible how you say all he did was just an assist, which it isnt right because he participate more, but even if it was, just an assist ? I mean it was the assist for the opener all the game. If you are not pleased with a player that make systemathic assists I dont know which type of player you like.
About Fulham he was clearly the best. If you take a look at our changes they were almost all shots of Aquilani, then there were two of Ngog and he one of Maxi that was a brilliant pass of the italian.

I heard that rumour on Thursday night, all I'll say is:

something major has to be the reason for so many abject, disheartening performances this season (Wigan away anyone?).
And
I know of two different stories concerning her one via a work colleague and one via my brother in law who both saw first hand clear suggestions that she's not the perfect wife (and I have seen her on two occasions on nights out in Liverpool where she seems very keen to receive male attention) - so nothing would surprise me about her.

I hope it's not true but like I say, something has to be behind his terrible games this year.

Yeah I posted the above earlier this week, He was supposedly trying to get an injunction against the sunday press to stop the allegations coming out.TBH it's his personal life and nothing to do with the game.

Also notice it says that he wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Rafa. And if the rumours are true, Rafa is pretty much a cert to be at Juventus next season.

It makes sense that Torres wouldn't be as keen to stay if Rafa did leave.

Can't see much on for other managers tbh, Jose but he seems to want the manu job more. Wouldn't want Blanc, as he hasn't got the experience yet. Van Gaal has been there, done it and has the ego to make any player STFU. He's done it at every club he's been at and his teams play good football.

Not sure what Van Gaal's view is on staying at Bayern, he's only been there a season remember. He was lined up to replace Fergie in 2002 when he was going to retire so there'd be no chance of that happening if he went to you guys. I'd love to see him put Gerrard in his place though. He doesn't really like individuals, it's all about the team.:D

Anyway good win today, hopefully you can maintain your form into next week eh?

edit: Torres said earlyer that he is happy in LFC despite playing only Europe league next season..and he will stay even if Rafa goes eventually.. he signed for 6 years..and all he need is to stay fit..+ have a partner to prevent the injurys and all defenders focusing on him..

all things said in media are 99% bullshit.. especialy those without direct quotes etc..

Maybe Stevie thinks the same?
